December

CRAZY!! It snowed 3 times this month. Let me say that again. It snowed. 3 times. in December. in Dallas, Tx. Crazy. If it snows, it's usually in Feburary. This was the 29th and look at the big snowman Douglas and Travis made.
Douglas and Harrison at Grandma's work party with Santa.

Santa's leftovers and the reindeers carrot crumbs on the fireplace.
Travis and I made the boys Christmas vest and ties. The ties are a cool red fabric with red and gold polka dots. The back and inside of the boys vests are green. I'm going to get a better picture of them. If I do say so myself, the boys were rocking their festive attire!

A white christmas??

I opened the blinds this morning while the kids were eating breakfast and screamed, "It's snowing!!" We had to leave our food unfinished to play outside.
I can't believe it snowed. What the hee haw? If it snows in the DFW area then it's usually in February. It only lasted about 30minutes here and it melted as soon as it stopped but it was fun to see and Douglas had fun playing outside.
On a side note, our house is completely Christmasfied. Travis put the tree up Thanksgiving and we had the house decorated the next day. I made this toilet paper roll advent calendar that I saw last year on a scrapping blog. Every day Douglas pulls out the red tissue and in it is a piece of paper with a scripture and and activity. For example we read a couple verses about the angel coming to Mary and telling her she would be with child and to name him Jesus and our activity was drinking hot chocolate and playing a math dice snowman game. So far he loves it.

Douglas is 3

I cannot believe I have a 3 year old! Here are 3 of my favorite things about Douglas.

-He is a loving big brother (most of the time). I hope that never changes. To see the two of them hug or snuggle is SOOOO amazing.
-He is a tender little boy. He is so sweet and caring.
-When I walk in from being out he flaps his little arms, runs to me and in a candy sweet voice, repeats, "Mommy, Mommy, Mommy".
Here are 3 things he's into right now.
-He loves books from the library.
-He still really loves trains.
-He's way more interested in tv show.

Notice his BROWN STRAIGHT hair. People always comment on Douglas' curly blond hair & compare it to Harrison's straight hair. Douglas' hair started straight and brown.

Annual Family Pictures

Picture time again. Fall works out nicely b/c it's by both boys bday so we can get their "year" pictures too. We bought the first 5.

The man asked him to do a tough guy look.

The man asked if Douglas could do a funny face. This is his funny face. :-)

Oh, and I made Douglas a "3" shirt to match Harrison. He knows he's turning 3 this Friday so wearing that on his bday should make him feel very cool and more like its bday.

Penguin and Dragon

Harrison wore the same penguin costume that Douglas did when he was 1. Douglas wore a purple dragon costume. He frequently was mistaken for a dinosaur (once a hippo :-). When walking away from the houses he would quietly tell Travis, "I'm not a dinosaur. I'm a dragon." Sweet boy! Friday night we went to Travis' work for trick or treating and Saturday we did our churchs' trunk or treat then Travis took Douglas down the street.

The penguins.

WOW

I've got to take advantage of this and teach him so much more! The 2 following experiences occurred.
Today
Douglas just woke up from nap, eating a snack and out of the blue this occurred.
D:Mom, why do we pray in the woods?
Me:we don't have to pray in the woods. We can pray anywhere anytime.
D: he puts his fists together & says why do we pray like this?"

Oh my, he has to be thinking of Joesph smith & the 1st vision! I've never told him about that. He must be remembering f/ church nursery.

Douglas says "I'm going to go pray in my room."
I say "do you want me to pray with you?" He says yes & goes to his room & kneels in the middle of the floor & we say a prayer.

3 days ago this happened out of the blue:
D: Mom what is a prophet?
Not so unusual b/c I BRIEFLY explained prophet 2 weeks ago during general conference. So I tell him again.
D: Mom, what is President Monson?
This is a little unusual b/c I mentioned his name ONCE.
Me: He is the prophet.
D: Sister Hoffman told me about him

Thank goodness for nursery leaders. I need to be so much better about teaching him church things. I always assume he's too young.

The State Fair of Texas

Everything is bigger in Texas, especially the fair. We love the state fair. I've gone just about every year that I've lived here. My mom is somewhat of a fanatic. Anyways, this was the 2nd time that Douglas has been but he was able to appreciate this year.
Douglas rode 3 rides: this airplane, swings, and carousel. He loved them all.
Harrison enjoying the Texas sized sandbox. Isn't he ADORABLE?!?!?!?!

A mini track for the kids. Of course Douglas picked the Lightening McQueen Car.
One of the best parts was this little farm simulation for the kids. They fed chickens, picked peaches, planted seed, and milked a cow. All fake of course.

Douglas loved petting Beauregard, who is Elsies baby. Elsie is Borden Milk's mascot.
Look at the proud little smirk on Douglas' face as the man gets the hook out of the fish. Now look at Douglas' face when the man shows him the fish he caught. I think he is surprised and awed. :-) Pure happiness on both boys' face.

First day of Preschool

Douglas started our co-op preschool today. Their are 6 of us. It's 2 hours , 2 days a week. Today was the letter A and number one. They have to bring a show and tell object every time that starts with the letter they are learning that week. Today he brought a paper Airplane. Thursday we'll bring his Ambulance.

Jennie said it went well. Douglas was playing with the kids when I came to pick him up so I assume he liked it.
