Maya's 8th Birthday: A Fun-Filled Day at Discovery Kingdom!!

August 4th: Maya's 8th birthday (cannot even believe our baby is 8 YEARS OLD). Aunt Vicki treated us to Discovery Kingdom for the day.  We had SUCH a good time seeing all of the animals, watching the shows, riding the rides, and eating popcorn, cotton candy, snowcones (causing blue mouths in some pictures!), etc..

Thank you, Aunt Vicki, for taking us and for helping to make Maya's 8th birthday (in her words)! "the best birthday ever" =)

And, thank you, for your hospitality for the 4 days we stayed with you and for taking us around everywhere too--We had such a WONDERFUL time.  We miss you and hope to see you soon!!!

So sad our trip came to an end as quickly as it did--Time flies when you're having fun and how true that was this past week!!  There wasn't a dull moment had!!  We have SO many memories to take with us...

A Visit From Uncle Tim and Aunt JoEllen & Another Pre-Birthday Celebration

We had a few hours to relax at home after the zoo before getting ready for dinner and a visit from Uncle Tim and Aunt JoEllen.  Aunt Vicki made Maya's favorite, lasagne, so we enjoyed that and then had a mini-celebration of Maya's birthday (a day early) since we would be gone all day on her real birthday at Six Flags' Discovery Kingdom.

We had a delcious cookies n cream ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins (that turned everyone's mouths BLUE, because of the blue icing, except for Maya's--not sure how she managed to dodge that?!) and then she opened some cards and a couple of presents.--her backpack and coordinating accessories from Mimi and Bop, and some soccer pj's and slippers from Mac, Cortlyn, and me.

We visited a little longer with everyone before it was time for Uncle Tim and Aunt JoEllen to head back home and we went to bed to rest up for our big day at Discovery Kingdom!

Micke Grove Zoo

Wednesday, we had  a bit more relaxed day, and headed to the local zoo--Micke Grove.  We had been there once before, when Maya was a baby, but it was fun to go back with both girls.  They had so much fun seeing all of the animals and posing with some statues (not sure why Cortlyn felt the need to climb on top of the poor lady in the 2nd statue picture)...

Their favorite part, for sure, was feeding the lorikeets.--They flew right to us and our containers of nectar, as soon as we walked into their cage! =)

Before we went back home, the girls rode on a few amusement rides--We basically had the whole place to ourselves, so we didn't have to worry about lines or anything.  The rides were geared more towards Cortlyn's age probably, but Maya is such a trooper--It didn't bother her at all.  She was happy to get right in there with Cortlyn.

The roller coaster somehow wasn't what Cortlyn expected (even though it was little, it took off at the speed of light!), so she was not impressed (as you can see in the picture--Maya's face is pretty funny, as a result, as well!).  This shocked me, because normally she loves this type of thing, but the guy stopped the ride, and I got on with Maya.  It was so fun listening to her giggle as we went round and round. =)

Such a fun little outing! =)
