Winter Fun

I (paul) must say that this past week or so has been fantastic! First of all last Saturday Aaron, full of confidence, had us take the training wheels off of his bike and off he rode. I'll admit I was worried about the inevitable wipe-out and had prepared the first aid kit complete with SpongeBob SquarePants band-aids. But it was not needed. Balance, he's got it. Pedaling, no problem! Turning, easy!

I imagine that the time spent on the Skuut was worth it. (Brian now rides it about half of the time.) See this article on balance bikes.

As part of the celebration of this milestone... we promised the boys we'd take them to Chuck E. Cheese. Initially we went on a Saturday night. We saw the crowds and promptly found another place to eat, promising to come back on Wednesday night. We made the right call.

And just as the groundhog DIDN'T see his shadow predicting an early spring, it got cold in Houston. We put the bikes away, turned on the fire place, and broke out the long underwear. Just as if preparing for a hurricane the news broadcasters took every opportunity to update us on the 'Arctic Blast.' Many made fun of normally balmy Houston, as the city shut down. There were predictions talk of freezing rain, sleet, and even... snow! And well, it happened. On Friday morning my car was covered in a sheet of ice. (you can see the snow accumulation there as well.)

One of the fun side-effects of trying to stay warm was a little static electricity. Christian got it the worst playing peek-a-boo under a fleece blanket.
