April Photo Scavenger Hunt

My photographs for this month's Photo Scavenger Hunt took some imagination!

A wonderfully warm and dry April...proving somewhat of a challenge for the very first item!

1. April Showers...having a 'shower' in April.

2. Breakfast... muesli

3. My camera

4. A set of keys

5. Not especially interesting, but a shop name.

6. A cross

7. A church (DS1 made this many years ago when we first started home-education).

8. Eggs, of the colourful Easter kind.

9. Something yellow...'Nancy Evans'.

10. A sculpture...one that my Dad carved for me when I was a little girl...rather odd, but lovely for purely sentimental reasons.

11. Shakespeare...A rubbing DS1 did when we studied Shakespeare

12. Something to mark St Georges Day...The scout parade being delayed until May, this is my 'something to mark St Georges Day'.

Looking forward to taking part next month. If you want to join in don't forget to visit Kathy.

Let's have a picnic

It's teddy bear picnic time again, it sure does roll around quickly. Join Melody and others as their teddies, take a picnic.

This little teddy has decided to picnic up a tree...she thinks it is safer up there.

Ready for a Party.

It was very much a 'me' day today. Once the mattress I'd advertised on Freecycle had be collected, I settled myself in my sewing room for a full day of sewing. I wanted to make a Party Outfit for Friday (Royal Wedding & Street Party).

First we have my interpretation of the 'Eton Suit', modelled by Peter.

The jacket is fully lined.

Okay I know the sandals don't quite finish it off properly, but they are the only shoes he has at the moment.

Next we have my short haired blonde Sasha, Susanna, modelling her party dress.

She has pretty shoes.

Doesn't she look pretty as a picture?

Well here we go...An Award

A lover blogger friend Catherine over at An Angel in the Garden
very kindly passed this sweet little award on to me recently.

I have received a few rewards, and don't often remember to blog about them and pass them on, and have now 'lost' them somewhere in cyberspace, so if any of you have given me one before, I would like to thank you very much and please don't take offence if I didn't post about it. I'm not very good at following 'rules' ;-)

This time I thought I'd give it a go, so Thank you Catherine for your thoughtfulness and kind comments.

The deal here is to share "10 things about Me" & pass this on to 10 others

I'm sure anyone who reads my blog, will have a fair idea about me from my ramblings, I have always enjoyed being creative, whether it be through playing music, sewing, knitting or other crafts, so I will try to think of things that I haven't written about before.

1. When I left school I trained as a Veterinary Nurse, but I have also worked in Banking, Insurance, Libraries and Schools.

2. I have had three major and one not quite so major surgeries...

Splenectomy for ITP - Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia (Age 24)
Sinusectomy - What a revelation that was! (Age 28)
Hysterectomy - rapidly growing fibroid (Age 36)
Brachial Plexus & other...surgery for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (Age 41) Grrrr....we won't discuss this one as it has had long term effects, and not the promised outcome I had expected.

3. I was born in Newport Pagnell and moved to New Zealand when I was six and then moved back to England when I was 27. So I feel I am quite 'divided' in where I consider 'home' to be, although would say that I am quite content at the moment.

4. While I lived in New Zealand, all but my first car, which was actually a red Morris Marina Van, were yellow. I had..a yellow Escort, Mini, Mitsubishi Celeste and a Mitsubishi Lancer. I just love yellow cars, unfortunately I couldn't get one here. My first car in England was a Rover Metro Diesel and my current car is a Toyota.

5. I would love to have a VW Campervan, but it is currently just a dream.

6. My husband really is my soul mate and is wonderful...well most of the time.

7. I have always loved nature and animals.

8. I wanted to be a dancer on shows when I was younger, goodness knows why as I would have been far too nervous to ever have been a performer, nor did I attend ballet or dance classes.

9. I think I have always been a 'collector'. My very first collections were stamps and shells.

10. I want some chickens. I remember the name of my favourite chicken that we had when I lived in Bucks as a very young child. I called it 'Shorty Neck' for obvious reasons I guess. Sadly she got taken by a fox! Grrrr. The next time we had chickens was when I was about 12 - Matilda (who turned out to be Chinese Silkie Cockerel! and Esmerelda, an ex-battery hen, who was a very reliable layer and a lovely hen.

Phew, that was hard work!

Now to pass this on to others, I am reluctant to do as I know so many people don't like to 'do' awards. I have met, both in person and virtually, so many wonderful people since embarking on this blog of mine, and feel very blessed with the support I received during my 'good' times and the 'bad'. Although this was only meant to be a positive place, and primarily about my crafts, as I already had a private blog, it has since evolved into more of a reflection of me and real life. It is not always perfect, I suffer at times from depression and chronic pain problems (TOS) and as such these sometimes take over.

I have two lovely, but very messy boys (all will be exposed below), one of whom has High Functioning Autism, and can at times be very trying, wearing and heartbreaking. I can say though that things have now turned a corner, and family life with him is so much more positive from the changes both he and us have made. It will never be easy, but life with him is now not horrid like it was over a year ago. Fortunately he also has a very loving nature which also shines out. I am proud of the way he has been trying at school and has overcome some of his anger problems. I love him and his elder brother to bits.

Now for a few photos :-)

A pair of 'mini' socks for Sasha

DS2 and I often go to the library on Tuesday...here are today's books I have borrowed.

I received these two gorgeous hexie flowers today for the Hexagon Flower Swap from Janet in Canada.

(Thanks so much they are lovely)

Now for the exposure of the rooms.

First off we have DS1's room - he is 19 would you believe and still incredibly messy, especially now that I don't go in and tidy it up for him.

Shame on you!

Next up we have DS2's room. Contrary to some beliefs that all people with ASD are obsessively neat and orderly...

He most definitely isn't. Most of this I swept out from under his bed, I filled a whole black clean sack full of rubbish! I can only do his room when he isn't around as he 'freaks out' if I go in his room when he is home. I have tried to get him to tidy it, but it is one of those battles, we have now chosen not to fight. Very important that, 'choose your battles'.

Tidy!

So to all my lovely friends, please grab this award if you would like to. You know who you are :-)

Easter Monday

We really have been spoiled with the wonderful April weather we have been having...mind you about time I say. It can continue like this right through to Christmas thank you very much, without a grumble or complaint from me.

Today's visitors to the garden...

Aha, that has stopped that pesky squirrel!

I've got two more hexie flowers to assemble and then they will be ready to post.

Some morning baking - Strawberry Muffins

After dinner - yum! Rhubarb and Apple Crumble.

Gorgeous Bluebells.

Thank you for all the lovely comments I have been receiving, you are all so kind. I'm rather short of words at the moment, letting my pictures tell their story.

Easter Sunday

I woke to another glorious day, how wonderful it makes you feel when the sky is blue and the sun is shining.

We had a few bird visitors to the garden today.

I worked on the front garden, planting my two new rhododendrons

The garden before I worked on it...

The garden after I'd given it a tidy up and re-barked.

The wisteria is looking glorious

I never tire of the colours of the maple tree against the blue sky.

Of course a little time was also spent in my sewing studio.

Planning and cutting out...

This was a new style...the jury is still out...

The bib needs to be narrower and I'm not sure I like the seam down the front...

Another style...

Quite happy with this one.

Right must dash, hubby wants to watch an episode of 'The Last Detective'. We've just come home from having a lovely afternoon and dinner at my MIL's.
