these january, almost february days

These are two of my favorite pics of the kids I took lately. Nothing really to report these days. Life is pretty standard right now. Salome went to the doctor this morning and measured 50 -75 percent which his where she has pretty much always been, except for at birth of course! I decided to seek out a new doctor after her last appointment was pretty traumatic and I decided the clinic was not worth our time(literally a 30-60 minute wait every time) We went back one other time before this for an appointment for Ephraim and she freaked out to even be there. So today was a big question mark as to how she would react to a new place, doctor. She was really freaked out at first, not wanting me to remove her clothes at all or let the nurse attendant even touch her. She cried through the weighing and measuring, but finally calmed down as we waited for the doctor. The doctor came in and wisely gave her time to gain trust simply by ignoring her and talking to me. Smart doc! Then Salome slowly agreed to let the doctor interact with her, so all in all the visit went really well. I really like the doctor to which left me wondering why I stayed at the last office so long.
Ephraim is happy to be back in preschool after Christmas break, after which he said, " Mama I love my preschool and love my friends." So sweet. We are still unsure of our return for next fall and are exploring some Pre-K options... God knows what the future holds, we are just waiting to find out.
Ryan is busy as usual having taken on another CBC lobby design project, continuing working on the kitchen and going to work too:)
I am slowly progressing on a mural for E' preschool. I like how it is turning out, yet was unaware of how long my design was going to take. It is always fun to have an extra project though.
Well that is all of our not too interesting news for now...

New kitchen (almost Done)

We are loving it. Still needs trim, backsplash and oh ya, a door on the bathroom versus random blanket hanging there. Good news: the bathroom door will not be transparent. It is so good to be able to use the kitchen again and I have to say new is pretty nice. A dishwasher and garbage disposal are pretty nice to have. We are still composting though, with a much better set up for the bin and recycling it is really painless. Ephraim thinks we need a worm bin, which would be cool but for now we are good. My favorite part is definitely the open feeling the bar lends to the whole house, I noticed I spend quite a bit of time there cutting, cooking, and looking out the front or at the kids.

I made a collection of photos for the progression of old kitchen to new kitchen, so there will be some repeats but it is kind of fun to see it all together. Well, fun for us, hopefully for you too.

veggie heaven

So this week has been our first week to get a delivery of organic fruits and veggies. I love it so far, but am definitely challenged by it to actually eat all of these good for us things. We are even sharing a third of it with a friend and it still seems like a lot. The menu so far has included besides a lot of salad a veggie soup, pork chops with cabbage and apples, garlic ravioli on chard, and tonight will be cheese soup (that has parsnips, potatoes, carrots and celeric). Any idea how to cut a celeric root? I will figure that out tonight. I also made this walnut/olive/oat bread that is awesome. It has the best texture. Cooking in the new kitchen is so fun. New knives and pots and pans are from Christmas help a lot too. Yes, this is probably like driving a new car, so fun for a while but then it becomes just a way to get to places. I really do like to bake though... so we will see. Anyways that leads me to my next soon coming blog... the almost finished kitchen.
