And the walls came tumbling down

So maybe they didn't actually tumble, but many walls and ceiling and floors have been removed. The process of creating our new home has begun. Dreams are big and many, reality is here. There is a lot of dirt and we thank our dear friends and family who picked up a hammer or a crowbar and started smashing or a broom and started clearing. The biggest helper award goes to Ryan's dad, John who spent an entire week visiting and demolishing everyday. He is probably responsible for more than half the work done.

So for now its all about the demolishing the unsalvagable and reclaiming the salvagable.
Stay tuned :)

the house

Introducing our house, the new one, after three months of playing ping pong with the bank, we can now call it ours.
The plan is this, re-create a very poorly planned space into a much better one using as many green methods and materials that we can afford.  The home has mid-century modern bones, but has been decorated and chopped up into a strange eighties, country style mish-mosh.  The existing downstairs is the main living space and upstairs is two bedrooms and bathrooms.  We are switching the floor plans and will eventually have an upstairs living space and four downstairs bedrooms.  This is a picture of the blueprint Ryan designed as it will hopefully look in the end.
It is situated on the face of a bluff that is on the edge of Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs, near the city, schools, and nature, a good location for our family.  Being able to walk to school, ride to the city, and drive less is going to be good.  So we are excited and suddenly smack dab in the middle of another huge project, here we go!
