Family Home Evening

So tonight was an interesting Family Home Evening.
My little nerd (for some strange reason) had the urge to shove Nerds candy up his left nostril. It took me a minute to figure out why he was wailing and slapping his nose, but then I quickly discovered a few purple nerds shoved up there. We managed to get the one out, but the other one was up way too high.
So off we went to the closest ER that we figured wouldn't be too crowded. Fortunately they had us in and out of there in less than an hour. Funny thing was that he spent so much energy going crazy at home, that by the time we got to the hospital he was sound asleep. They poked and prodded and he didn't even so much as move.
So, we're back home now and he's still sound asleep. Needless to say, Nerds are off limits now. Gotta love two-year-olds!

Mystery Solved!

So the case of the missing DVDs has now been solved.

Although Dr. Phil and the Super Nanny would disagree (not that I listen anyway), Tommy has a TV in his bedroom (left over from the former daycare days). About a month ago some of Tommy's favorite DVDs starting disappearing. I assumed when we painted his bedroom and moved everything, we'd come across his stash. However, no DVDs were ever found.

Well today when Tommy wanted to watch "All About Trains," it too had disappeared. I scoured his entire room--under the bed, in the dresser, in both toy boxes, in the closet, etc. I finally asked Tom if maybe they were stuck inside the TV. He was skeptical that it would still work if DVDs were floating around inside, but he looked anyway. After I disconnected the cable, he picked up the TV and shook it. Yes, indeed, there was a whole lot of rattling going on.

So, thanks to Daddy (aka Tom), were back in business.

Crazy Days!

So the past week-and-a-half has flown by--lots and lots of company from out of state to occupy our time while Tom's gone. Tom's parents came from Utah, Lorena and family from Spokane, and Karyn and crew came in from Dallas, Tex-ass (as Bob would say). While they mostly stayed with Shari, we all met up each day to hang out and play. We had a blast--too bad I didn't keep a camera with me! We'd have pictures of swimming in October, or playing football with cousins, or learning new card games like "CASH." (Or Ty beating up his cousins, or Tommy beating up his cousins.)

Tom is on his way back home tomorrow--this trip was less than two weeks--whoo-hoo! (Just not quite as "whoo-hoo" for the paycheck!) And this time my "honey-do" list includes getting the master bedroom and bathroom two-toned. Then I'll leave him alone (until I think of something else to be done).

Hmm, wonder what he'll bring me from his trip? Maybe a Coach purse, or Australian chocolates, or diamonds . . . I can dream, can't I?

Grantigrew

Tommy woke up this morning and asked to see cousin Grant (gwa-gwoo, short for Granti-grew). Poor little Tinker--Grant's already on a plane headed back to the snow of Spokane (sorry Lorena!).

Don't worry though, Tommy, and I'm sure you and Ty-Ty can find plenty of trouble together.

Suprise

Tom has had a couple of days to wander around Sydney. Yesterday he was headed to the beach with another pilot when they came across this sign. I'm assuming that after they read the sign they figured they'd go down the stairs for a better view. So, imagine their surprise when they got closer and saw nothing but unclothed men!
Tom said that this particular beach is right where all the cruise ships come in and out of port in Sydney. That would be quite a "Welcome to Australia, mate!" Actually it'd make me want to throw up! (Imagine my shock, when as a 10-year-old girl from Utah, I saw naked men on the beach in Sydney--surprised I didn't need therapy from that one!)

Real Mothers

My sister forwarded this to me this morning (most things she sends me are not appropriate for blogging!), but I thought this was so sweet.

Real Mothers don't eat quiche;
they don't have time to make it.

Real Mothers know that their kitchen utensils
are probably in the sandbox.

Real Mothers often have sticky floors,
filthy ovens and happy kids.

Real Mothers know that dried playdough
doesn't come out of carpets.

Real Mothers don't want to know what
the vacuum just sucked up.

Real Mothers sometimes ask "Why me?"
and get their answer when a little voice
says, "Because I love you best."

Real Mothers know that a child's growth
is not measured by height or years or grade...
It is marked by the progression of Mommy
to Mom to Mother...

Guess that means Sam and I are getting older . . . she quit calling me "Mommy" long ago, usually calls me "Mom," and now is often heard to say "MO-THER!!!!"

Second Guessing?

For the most part we are very happy with Tom's job at Atlas and consider ourselves very fortunate. However, with the economy the way it is, there are times that we have wondered if we were smart to jump ship and give up seven years' seniority to go to a new carrier.

Recently Tom has taken up quite an interest in politics, the economy, the stock market, etc. So when he was checking stocks this afternoon, and found that Mesa's stock was only worth .30 a share, we had a really good laugh and agreed that we're right where we should be. Way to go J.O.!
P.S. Unless you've spent years of your life at Mesa like we have, you probably won't find the humor in this post:)

It's That Time of Year Again . . .

October is my favorite month of the year here. Mainly because I know we've made it through another AZ summer and cooler temperatures will soon (FINALLY) be on their way. I also love October because Tom loves, LOVES Halloween, and I know the holiday season is just around the corner.
So, to continue with tradition, Tom scalped out the Bermuda grass and reseeded with Rye. I looks pretty dead and yellow now, but by Halloween, we should have a nice soft layer of deep, green winter grass. Yes, winter grass, I say. Remember, we earn our winters here by paying with summers from H*!@! So, while you folks in Utah enjoy your zero degree temperatures with a frozen layer of snow where your grass used to be, we'll be frolicking in the sunshine.
P.S. I have to thank Tom for all his hard work during his last trip home. You'd be so proud of him. He didn't even build one airplane! Instead, besides reseeding, he also spent an entire week helping me paint upstairs. Aren't husbands great sometimes? (JK, baby, you're great all the time!)
P.S.S. And your "honey-do" list won't be quite as long next time. At least not yet.

Room With a View

Not that I'm envious or anything, but I think Tom's office always has a better view than mine.

All I can see from my office window is my neighbor's roof and swimming pool (and occasionally the neighbor in the pool, cradling a can of beer). Whoopity-doo! Now there's a sight for sore eyes! Cough, cough, choke, choke.

Some day you'd better take me with you, or else . . .

Trick-or-Treat

You know how some of the stupid things you do as a child come back to haunt you?

Today Sammie brought home this "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF" box from school. (I grew up in a rural area in Utah, so I had never even heard of this until she brought a box home last year. Actually I don't remember that either, but she tells me she brought one home last year. She has a better memory than I do!)

Anyhow, Tom was the one to pick Sammie up from school today. After she got home, she came in and told me the following story:

Back when Tom was about 10 or so, he also brought home a "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF" box. However, Tom modified the fundraiser--"Trick-or-Treat for Little Tommy Mansell!" He kept the money ($7) in hopes of saving it for a model airplane. However, he said it didn't even make it that far--he bought candy instead.

So, to rectify his wrong, some 20 years later, he's going to put a $10 bill in Sam's box. Better late than never, right?!
Happy October!
