Year end report, AKA Christmas Letter

Family and friends,

What a year it has been!   Our biggest happening was in January.  We finally have a home of our own again.  We searched for months and months while trying to sell our home in Boise and even after it sold we had to keep searching for our perfect home.  We never wanted to move again so it had to be just right, or at least that potential.  We settled on a two story home in Spring Creek, NV.  It has great windows and light and with the unfinished basement the potential to someday have all those extra rooms we dream of.  One project at a time.

Lily will be 3 in just a few short weeks, where has the time gone?  I don't have a baby anymore!  She is learning her letters and to count.  She loves to play with her "girls" (Little People) and baby dolls.

George is 6 and in first grade.  He is learning to read and LOVING multiplication.  He has started wrestling and is loving doing that, it really gives him some guy time in this house of girls.  While they don't give letter grades in Kindergarten he received excellent marks and got to go to Nat-So-Pah resort and jump off the diving boards into the warm water.

Courtney is 8 and was baptized this March.  She is a budding fashion editor and thriving in 3rd Grade.  Courtney did dance this last year and had a great recital in the spring.  She also earned straight A's in school and went on an adventure with dad to Bruneau Sand Dunes in Idaho.  She hasn't been going to weekly classes this fall due to scheduling but is participating (along with George) in the Hometown Nutcracker this season.

Mallory is 11 and skipping a grade last year put her in 6th grade this year at the Middle School.  She is loving all the activities the school offers and is a photographer on the yearbook staff and participated in the fall play.  She is also learning to play the trombone in the school band.  Straight A's last year earned her an adventure with dad and they decided to summit Ruby Dome.  11,000 feet is quite a trip!

Melissa is crazy and took all 4 kids to New York City this summer for a family wedding.  No not really crazy.. it was so much fun to see so many family and friends on our journey.  She is also busy taking lots of pictures not only of the family but of others as well and starting to see the fruits of her labor, business wise.  Melissa is in charge of our family blog, which means that it gets done in fits and spurts when time allows, but it is still a great way to keep up on what we are up to.

Kevin is with the local Police Department and was promoted to Detective this year and made the SWAT team.  He has also been very involved with the PAL athletic program refereeing youth basketball games.  He has been working on those projects around the house and made a huge dent in the list this summer by completing a bedroom in the basement.

We sincerely wish that this Holiday Season will bring you much joy and laughter and continue through the year to come.

Love, The Blues

Look!  My card even says Happy New Year, so I'm not too late.  :)

New Family Pictures!!

Last summer I attended a photography workshop and met a wonderful lady and fantastic photographer, Tara Winsor.  Tara is so sweet, and her photographic work is stunning.  A couple of months ago she posted a contest on her blog for a free family session or mentoring session.  I made a comment to wish her luck and a tweet to spread the word.  As much as I love her work and would have loved to have had a couple of hours to learn from her I really had no notion of winning, I truly just wanted to help her spread the word so she could find new clients in her area.  I never win anything, so I wasn't too concerned.  I mean really who wins those blog contests anyways?  Then I won an e-book from the MCP blog on SEO for Photographers(exciting for me, probably a snore for anybody else).  I figured I had now won my lifetime share of blog contests.  Shock of my life when Tara messaged me and said I had won one of her slots!! Which one did I want?, my choice.    UHHHHHH.......?!?!?!?   I really wanted a chance to mentor with her, but Kevin has been after me to set up some family pictures for us.  Well I shouldn't say set up, because that is what we have, me setting up the tripod and either setting the timmer of having someone click the shutter for us.  He had been after me to hire a photographer to take our pictures, just like I do for others.  So, I told Tara we would love to have a family session with her.  We of course would meet her somewhere in the SL area.

When we headed to Amanda's graduation in April I knew it would be a perfect opportunity to try to meet up with Tara as well.

Tara sent me a link to our pictures this morning.

They are AMAZING.   Lots of pictures

Thank you Tara. I cannot say enough how wonderful you are.

How handsome is this guy?!

It cracks me up that you can see a bride and groom on the temple steps behind us.  :)

Tara is based in Layton(I'm pretty sure) but travels all over, I would highly recomend her for your own family portrats, kid portraits, newborns, seniors, weddings etc.

She is also traveling to Oregon this summer and will be offering mini sessions while there.

Also, check her out on Facebook,  http://www.facebook.com/WinsorPhotography

Kids will be kids

What happens when you leave your camera in the car with a 2 year old and a 5 year old?  About 100 of these....

The after party

After the baptism we came back to the house for yummy food and the chocolate fountain, Courtney's request.
Photos courtesy of Amanda, she was smart enough to actually pick up the camera and use it.

Courtney's Baptism

Half of my children are now baptized.  Oh My.  Where is the time going??  It really needs to stop.  NOW.

Had to have a picture with with the cast in it.

I love this one  :)

We are not exactly a serious bunch.

And how did we solve that cast problem?  White trash bag of course!  We had been using blue painters tape on his arm for showers as it comes off the skin easier, but for this he sacrificed the few arm hairs he has and went with the stronger stuff.

No words

SO Frustrated.

Very Very Frustrated

The kids dropped my external hard drive.  It would not read.  The connections seemed bent, so I decided to wait it out and take it in after Christmas. Tried to catch up on blogging, but Blogger would only let me upload one picture at a time.  An upload I was doing to Flickr failed.    Then the Laptop died.   Took them both in.

Both are gone.

10 years of stored pictures.

Everything that is blogged is saved, maybe not at 100%, but saved.

Christmas and my last couple jobs are still on various cards.

Everything else??  GONE.

Pictures, Kevin's grad school essay, templates, actions, Pictures!!

UGHHHHHHHHHHHH

Data recovery is an option we will explore when we have house stuff settled.  The laptop is a maybe, the dropped hard drive??  Most likely toast.  Of course that is the one with the oldest pictures on it.  Stuff that has not been blogged, or uploaded to other places to send prints.

KICKING MYSELF

NEVER in a million years would I have thought that they would both be gone.

I know I have some stuff on assorted disks in assorted places.  If you have one, could you copy it and send it to me? I'll gladly reimburse shipping.

And if you know the name of a great data recovery place that would be awesome.

***As a reminder to everyone.. make a disk today.  Not everything, that seems too overwhelming.  Make a disk, A disk, one week, one month, a bunch of random favorites, something.***

New Years Eve!

I don't know what the kids were up to (other than eating goodies and staying up late with Grandma and Pops) but Kevin and I sure had fun!

Mary blogged all about it here
