A little time away.....

We've been making time in our busy schedules to sneak away for two or three days here and there as a family.  On one such trip we went to the Mystic Aquarium, stayed in a hotel where the kids swam, put together a puzzle, ate loads of junk food, jumped on the hotel beds, and visited a museum.  (Museum pics later.) So much fun.  It was the first getaway of the year and we plan to venture out together more.  In fact, we've already been on another trip and plan to go again soon.  Family time, it's my favorite!!!

The beluga whales were very interactive and friendly!

Warning....

New blog posts to appear in T minus 12 hours........
I gave a talk in church yesterday about priorities as it relates to family.  I've decided that some priority must be given to this family blog because, after all, it was started in an effort to stay in touch with our family which is spread from one coast to the other. So stay tuned.....I have a few things to do today that needs to be done before this, but when all is settled down for the night, the blogging shall begin!!!  Wooohooooo!

Science Fair

Shannon and a friend recently participated in the school science fair. Like most elementary aged kids, Shannon wanted to do a project on volcanoes.  It's all about the eruption. So a volcano it was, and the girls had fun building the volcano, experimenting, and making posters to explain and document their work.
In our school district the elementary level is judged to allow the students to know how well they did on their projects but no awards are given for places. Judging for places or specific awards will begin at the middle school in 5th grade.  The kids do receive a participation certificate and a medal.  The science fair was fun, but I'm glad it's over even though my rock of husband did most of the work with the girls!

Happy Birthday!

The first Oreo cookie was sold 100 years ago today in Hoboken, NJ.  Today Oreo is the world's most popular cookie selling over 2 billion dollars worth of Oreos worldwide last year.  It's certainly a popular cookie here at our house and we had some fun eating Oreos tonight to celebrate the big day. Happy Birthday, Oreo!  We love you!

There are different styles for eating an Oreo and everyone has their favorite.  Some like to CRUNCH it like my Shannon. It's a big crunch when you are trying to bite through a Triple Double Oreo.

Then there's the DUNK method. Oreo is milk's favorite cookie or so they say.  Sean likes to dunk, but it would seem that he doesn't like to be interrupted while dunking. Sorry buddy, hope that cookie isn't too  soggy while it soaked for a photo op.

My personal favorite is the TWIST and LICK style of eating an Oreo.  Erin is eating her Oreo cookies that way tonight or at least the one in the picture.  Look she's waving hi or maybe she's had enough of the photo session.  Whatever way you eat your Oreo, it's a fun cookie to eat.

Oreo has so many flavors now. There are even ones coated in fudge.  These are our top three picks: Triple Double, Peanut Butter, and Cool Mint!  Ahhhhh, what a day.  Thank you, Oreo!

Sean's Hero

Recently our Bishop's son, Kyle, returned home from his mission, California - San Jose. Sean Patrick is 'star' struck. Every day when he wakes up he starts talking about Kyle. It's Kyle this and Kyle that.  We even have to fix his hair like Kyle's.  When we get to church Sean searches for Kyle and wants to sit near him.  We also have to find Kyle before we can leave the church when the meetings are over.
I have to admit that I use the "Kyle" name when I'm trying to get Sean to do stuff like eat his veggies or clean his room.  It works every time. Kyle eats his veggies, brushes his teeth, and cleans at his house.  Hahaha. Kyle likes to wear sweaters and khaki pants.  (Not sure if Kyle really likes those things or not.) You get the picture.
It's really cool.  Our family was talking about how blessed we are to be surrounded by so many good people in our ward, stake, and community.  It's nice for our little five year old to have heroes who are returned missionaries or soon-to-be missionaries.  Young men who are trying to do the right thing and to live good lives.  Our ward has a good group of young men from many families.  Sean adores them and many of these young men are so kind to pay attention to a little guy who idolizes them. He watches all the boys in our ward as they pass the sacrament and talk in the halls.  Sean talks about the day when he will do what the 'big boys' do. As a mother I take mental snapshots of my little Sean with his 'big boys.' I hope he grows up to be just like them and that one day some little future five year old will want to be just like him.

The Box

Thank You!
I took a bit of time off from blogging to catch up on the things that slipped me by during my lupus flare.  I'm doing great.  The medicines worked well and quickly and I'm back to my normal schedule!  Wahoo! I thought I would start with a few pics from the Valentine's box from Grandmother and Grandpa!  Thank you.  The kids loved it....of course there was no doubt about that!  Looking forward to updating the blog regularly again!  I did make the blog private.....finally.  Hope you are all here with us!
