Adam is Great

Adam is great. He is a constantly growing and learning new things and he never ceases to amaze me. He has learned that when you add pleeeeease onto the end of any request you are extremely likely to get what you want. Especially when you say it to Dad who tends to be more of a sap. I fear he is benefiting far too much from being the first child. He has also learned to narrate his life. For example: Upon finding Adam with his finger up his nose I asked him what he thought he was doing. His reply was "I'm picking my nose." I really couldn't argue with that since it was, in fact, the correct response to my question. He has also learned that when you play along with mom in pretending that there is a baby hiding somewhere in her stomach you get major praise from your parents and perhaps even a treat (if you add a pleeeeease to your request after playing along). Finally he has learned the joys of vacuuming. This is perhaps my favorite aspect of Adam right now. The area under my couch cushions has never been cleaner. It is truly one of his favorite things to do and he sometimes spends a half hour or so quietly vacuuming. I wonder what the child labor laws say about that. Anyway, he is great. I love to watch him become a person.

Hello All

Well....I'm trying to think of new stuff to tell you this week. As one week is pretty much like the other, especially during the semester, it is not an easy thing to do. One thing that I should probably share with you is that we are expecting again. I am somewhere between 28 and 30 weeks along. The doctors can't seem to decide how far along I am and since this was unexpected, unplanned, and about a million other things like that for us, I don't really have a clear idea either. Oh well. He (yes, another boy) is supposed to come cesarean because his brother was kind enough to prepare that approach for him so someone will have to narrow down a due date at some point. The whole thing is a little tricky because school gets out at the end or April and Caleb Todd Berg is due at the beginning. Oh well. We will have faith that it will all work out.

The only other item of news to share with you this week is that Eric almost lost his right eye at work. He and a co-worker were scrapping some sort of carpet off the floor of an apartment and the co-worker lost control of his scrapper. He hit Eric's eye with the end of his scrapper with the same amount of impact you see in the reenactment below. We are so blessed that nothing serious happened although he still carries quite a shiner and he scared a few little kids at church on Sunday. They will hopefully not be scarred for life.

After Two Long Years........

A new semester has started and with that semester comes new assignments. One of these includes creating a blog about some aspect of my current family history research. Now, this is not that blog. However, I figured now would be a good time to update my family blog. If you can call it updating that is. I really don't think that "update" is the accurate term for a blog that hasn't been touched since March of 2009. It's more like a rebirth or a revival. Anyway, here we go.

Eric and I are now in our second semester at BYU Provo. If all goes well I should graduate with a degree in Family History in April of next year. Let's all cross our fingers. I have been going to school off and on for ten years now and have yet to obtain that prized B.A. degree that I so desperately crave. (You will notice there is no mention of a B.S. degree). Eric recently changed his major to Mathematics Education and Coaching Education. I think it will be a wonderful move for him and, although it may extend the academic period of our lives, it is good to know that he will be doing something that he seems to truly enjoy. My only complaint about our life here in Provo is the cold and the snow. I really detest the cold and the snow. Who would have thought I would have such strong emotions towards weather.

Adam is wonderful. He is speaking in more-or-less complete sentences which I think is an important landmark for any first child. Most of the sentences he repeats over and over and over and..... Let's just say that once he is down for the night I always want to observe a moment of silence. Thank goodness there is temporarily only one who wants to tell me his story. Besides the talking there is the climbing and the jumping and the destruction. I'm pretty sure those things just come with the territory of raising a boy and they don't really bother me yet. I still have a few years to think about it though. In the meantime Adam continues to grow faster than his pediatrician is comfortable with. He grows two inches and only gains a pound and manages to put himself in the "endangered malnourished child" percentile every time I take him in. It's really not my fault. I guess next time I will have to take Eric in with me so I have a visual-aid to defend myself with.

Bottom-line is we are well and healthy. Hopefully I will be more attentive to my family blog now that I have a blogging assignment for school. I don't make any promises after the semester though.
