First Day of Mother's Day Out

Today was Jake's first day of Mother's Day Out.  Since he has had a babysitter and been to the nursery at church several times, I thought I was well prepared for the crying and hysterics.  Unfortunately, for some reason, leaving him this morning so upset was really hard.  I don't know if it was the fact that I wasn't due to pick him for five hours, or the fact that I wasn't either right there at home with him or in the church congregation, but it just seemed different somehow and very sad.  I came home and did some tax work, ironing, and a little reading, and when the clock hit 1:20, I couldn't take it anymore and left to pick him up a little early.

When I got there, he was in the highchair having a little snack, and the teachers said he did great.  He was a little fussy off and on for the first hour, but then he took a great nap from 10:30 until 12:15!  He ate all his lunch (except the green beans), and on his little "report card" the adjectives circled to describe him were "happy" and friendly."

I feel so relieved and like I will be able to relax and enjoy the break when I drop him off on Thursday!

Poor baby!  Not suspecting a thing!
Still thinks this is just a regular morning playing in the kitchen after breakfast

Mom's Gone WILD!!!

My good friend Paige invited five of us girls to come and stay at her parents’ lake house in Horseshoe Bay. TX for the weekend. We were planning the trip for several months and anxiously awaiting the date to finally arrive. We all piled in Paige’s vehicle Friday night and made our way down to Horseshoe Bay. Just the ride down, with three plus hours of uninterrupted time for girl talk, was a great start!

When we arrived at the lake house, we were all in awe of its beauty! This place is absolutely amazing, with one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen. I kept expecting the crew from MTV’s Cribs to jump out and start filming! After the tour of our awesome digs, we went out on the patio and enjoyed a glass of wine and more girl talk. We woke up the next morning, and after hanging out a bit, headed to the resort where we relaxed lakeside with some tropical drinks. As you can probably tell by now, there was absolutely nothing wild about this weekend: no dancing on tables, no backbends, no shots, and most importantly, no hangover!

After lunch at the resort and enjoying the pool for a bit, we went out for a little shopping at some of the cute little boutiques in the area, and then stopped for some fro-yo. That evening we all got to take our time getting ready (you know we are all moms of young kids for me to even mention this, and what a treat it is) and then went out for a really nice dinner at The Yacht Club. After dinner we headed back to the lake house for more chatting and just hanging out. After such a busy day, we called it a night a little earlier than the previous night. We woke up Sunday morning, refreshed and ready to get back to our husbands and little ones!

It was truly a perfect trip; we did all of my favorite things (laying out, shopping, eating), but most importantly, I really was able to bond with and strengthen the friendships I have made with these amazing women. You are all wonderful friends and I am so blessed to have you in my life! Thank you to Paige and The Petersen’s for welcoming us into there home and allowing us to have such a great experience!

Jake's One Year Photos

Some of my faves...

Fun in the Sun!

At the beginning of August, we took a family vacation to Captiva Island, FL.  We had a wonderful, relaxing time with my mom, dad, brother, and future sister-in-law.  I had no idea that taking a trip to the beach would require so much stuff until I really started thinking about it.  We definitely could not have done it without my mom and dad's help!  They installed the new car seat, bought a new wagon (which for some reason Jake did not like near as much as he does at home), brought a pack 'n play, sunscreen, toys for Jake, etc.

My mom was great with Jake and babysat him several times so we could go out to dinner.  It was so nice to have some quality time with her, and Chris and I really appreciated getting some alone-time too.  We really enjoyed going to the Bubble Room for dinner with Kyle and Shannon.  I hadn't seen my brother in over a year and a half, and getting to spend some time with him really reminded me how much fun he is and how much I enjoy his company!  This was the first time I had met Shannon, and already I know she is going to be an awesome addition to our family.  We have a lot in common, and I am looking forward to future family time together!  Even though my dad could only stay one night, it was so nice getting to hang out with him as well.  As usual, he had everyone laughing hysterically and was greatly missed when he was gone.  Thanks again mom and dad for making our first family beach vacation so wonderful!
