A Week Full of Firsts

It's been a little over a week since we've been home from China. Well, not really if you count being gone to MN. Silas has been home for good since Sunday night. He is doing really well. We are adjusting, he is adjusting and I know it will take some time. For the most part though, it is going really well. He is sleeping fairly well, eating great, and enjoys playing with the girls. He also is having tantrums, crying and well - trying to learn to play nicely! The good definitely outweighs the bad! Enjoy pictures for all of Silas' firsts!
Remember this? My very first bath in China

Look at me now! This is kinda fun!

Having fun in the sprinkler
Silas getting brave - he loved it after he figured out what to do!
Look at me mom - I'm touching the water!

Another first - his first party! Our friend Suzanna turned 4 and had a little get together with water balloons and Popsicles. Madelyn accidentally hit Silas in the face with a water balloon, after the initial shock wore off he thought it was the funniest thing.

I just LOVE this picture of him!

Another first! Swimming at the Y. Our little boy who was scared to death of water is 2 weeks ago is becoming a little fish. He loved playing in the water and splashing around.

The Wedding!

Congratulations Kristyn & Mark! We are so happy for both of you and had so much fun at the wedding! We hope you are enjoying your honeymoon! Jason's big sis Kristyn and her hubby Mark. They have waited a long time to find each other and we are so happy they are together! We know God will bless their marriage.

The chapel was not air conditioned, so they gave out fans at the wedding.

Our little man at the rehearsal dinner - he was so good the whole time.

Our family of 5!

Thank you so much Mike & Tina for opening your home to us. It was so wonderful and we appreciated the comforts of your home after being in hotels for 2 weeks!

Caroline's Big Announcement & our week

I CAN EAT PEANUTS NOW!

Praise God! Caroline has outgrown her peanut allergy! This picture is her first taste of peanut butter at her food challenge that was in the allergist office. She has never tasted peanut butter because she showed up highly allergic to them at one year of age. Over the past 2 1/2 years, her blood tests showed she was less allergic and then this year her skin test was also negative! Over the course of a couple of hours, she tried the peanut butter. First a little drop, then 1/4 tsp, 1/2 tsp, 1 tsp and finally 2 tsp. She had no reaction at all! She is still very allergic to milk, but we are confident she will grow out of this too, as she has the soy, egg, bean and now peanut allergies!

Jason's parents also came in this week! We got to have dinner with them Wednesday night before they headed out to visit several of their supporting churches. It was great to see them and they brought the girls some adorable dress up clothes and dresses from Cambodia. The store they are from is run by a missionary who employs women to provide them with good jobs. The girls love their new dresses and play clothes! We will be seeing the entire Groth clan at Kristyn's wedding on July 12!

Only 6 more days until China! We are busy getting packed, organized and ready to go! Please keep us in your prayers as we make our final preparations for our sweet boy.

Aloha!

Today we celebrated Madelyn's 5th birthday! Her actual birthday is while we are in China so we just moved the celebration up a few weeks. It was a busy day, my shower in the morning and then her party in the afternoon. It was a really fun day though. She was so excited and really enjoyed having her friends over.

She wanted a Hawaiian theme, and it ended up being great! Her friends came dressed Aloha style and we made a mermaid craft, played limbo, ate cupcakes and ice cream and played outside. My friend Lennie made the cutest cupcakes complete with sand, water, beach balls and little umbrella's! They were a hit.

Celebrating Silas!

Today my great friends Mandy, Lennie, Emily and Becky gave me the most wonderful shower. I am in awe of how blessed I am to have such wonderful girlfriends! It was great to have so many people come together to support us as we add Silas to our family. People - the Groth house now has BLUE! It was so fun to open boy toys and blue clothes! We got tons of great things that we need like some cups, plates, clothes, potty seats, diapers, underwear and socks, toy organizers, a lamp, a riding toy, a car seat, bibs, a beautiful blanket my grandma made, the cutest stuffed frog my mom made, sheets...

We had brunch and my friends and sister made the greatest food. We had breakfast casserole, hashbrown casserole, cinnamon rolls, cream cheese and chocolate chip dip, fruit kabobs, orange cranberry scones, ham & biscuits and punch. It was delicious! We also played some really cute games. One was making different words out of Silas' Chinese and American names. The other two were adoption related. One was guessing if celebrity's were adopted or had adopted - my mom won which is hilarious because she probably didn't even know who half of the people were! The other was a memory game about what items we would need on our flight to China!

Overall, it was the sweetest, best celebration. Thank you so much to the hostesses - I love you all and am so blessed to have each one of you in my life!

Recital!

Wow, we are so blessed! Jason & I can not even to begin to tell you how proud we are of our girls! I know, we are bragging, but this is our blog! This afternoon the girls had their recital and did beautifully. Caroline was a teddy bear and Madelyn danced to a merry-go-round song. They practiced so hard all through the year and had so much fun today. Enjoy our pictures!

Happy Anniversary!

I cannot believe we have been married 9 years! I guess time flies when you are having fun! I am so blessed to have the most wonderful husband. We met in first grade, went to prom together our Junior year, and the rest is history! Of course, we had a few bumps along the road as we were growing up in high school and college but I am so thankful that God kept us together. Our love has changed and grown during our 14 years together and we are looking forward to many more! We received the greatest anniversary gift today - our travel approval to go to China to get Silas! Only a few more weeks until we have our son.

May Days

May has been a fun month for our family. A couple of weeks ago, Madelyn graduated from preschool! She went to the greatest little school and loved it. Caroline will be starting next year and is looking forward to school. They had a little graduation and sang some songs. She is really excited about starting kindergarten in August. What a big girl she is becoming. Here are a few pictures from her graduation.
Jason's sister Kristyn came down from Minneapolis last weekend with her fiance, Mark. We had fun visiting with them and Jason's other sister Kara and her kids. We enjoyed an afternoon at the Cincinnati zoo. The favorite animals were the peacocks (Caroline) and the cheetah's (Madelyn)!

Today, we are enjoying Memorial Day. This morning, we went the the Y and Jason and I worked out. Then we went the the pool. Whew - it was FREEZING!! We have actually enjoyed spring around KY this year and it has been cooler than the past few years. The water has not warmed up at all. We ended up swimming for a while in the indoor pool and then had our picnic lunch outside. Tonight we are going to my grandparents house for a cookout. I made a yummy Kraft foods recipe - Banana sundae cake or something like that. I'll post a picture and the recipe later.

Mother's Day photo's and Date Night

I already posted about my great Mother's Day, but I thought I'd share some pictures! Here are the girls and I before church on Sunday. Saturday night, our Sunday School class had a Women's Celebration night for all the moms and women in our class. The guys catered the dinner, served us, had flowers, chocolates and music. It was great! After our dinner we played the newlywed game and had lots of laughs. Here are a few pictures from that evening.

Some of the guys hard at work!

We also started a great thing with our Life Group. These are the four other couples who we meet with a couple times a month and go to church with. None of us get enough dates with our spouses because babysitting is very expensive and we just fail to make it a priority. Last month we started taking turns watching each others kids. Once or twice a month, one couple will watch all the kids while the other couples get a night out. It was GREAT last month and Saturday is our next date night. I am really excited! I planned last month and Jason is planning this month. We went out to dinner at a little Italian place downtown and then walked around UK. Then we went to Joseph Beth Bookstore and shopped around for a while. It was really nice, and cheap! I can't wait to see what we are doing Saturday.

Before our big night out!
