One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

Powder Bath!! :)

I feel like I've been dragging y'all along on this house stuff, and here we are still not moved in. Thanks for tagging along!

This house building is an ORDEAL! But, at least we are doing it, and won't ever have to do it again, Lord willing. What's even worse is the MOVING part. I am just tired of packing boxes and taping boxes and digging in dumpsters for boxes. And sorting, bagging up trash, burning endless bags of trash!

Anyways, we are moving out of our house tomorrow, and the plan for today is (it's changed everyday this week) to move into our new house, but ONLY on the kids side. Circumstances have it that we need to get out of this house, so we will set up the kids rooms, and basically just sleep there, and hang out at the parentals for a while.

Here's the problems:
1. Finally the door for master bath came --> they stained it the wrong color.
2. Ordered wrong tile to finish the master tub, so we have to wait another week for that to come in and get done.
3. the painters have arrived, but they are really useless. I don't mean to be mean, and I've been really pleased with all the other sub-contractors, but not this painting company. It took them 2 months to paint and stain our house. They are finally back to do the baseboards, touch ups, and paint the dining room, and all the outside painting. And they only bring 2 guys EVERYDAY. I don't know if they don't have a crew or what. And they leave at 4 EVERYDAY. I don't expect them to work til 8 or 9 at night, although some crews did if they were behind. But, they could at least stay until 5; that would be considered a normal work day for everybody else, and during busy seasons, you might have to stay until 6!

So, I just have a really bad feeling the painting is going to take a month to finish the inside, and then 2 more weeks for the outside. I don't know if that's true, but I'm just preparing myself.....

Feeling frustrated with these guys. :(

More Progress

A month ago I made a list of "things left to do." There were 15 things; it feels good to mark off 6 of them!

Hardware is on the cabinets!

A Doorbell!

And a front door!

Glass top Desk

Mirrors are put in, in all the bathrooms!

Master bathroom floor grouted, but they have not re-tiled the bathtub surround.

Trim kit put on refrigerator/freezer! This better hold all the food we need!

9 Things to Go!
Shutters installed.
Paint the garage.
Tile the Tub Surround and Vent-a-hood.
Paint the baseboards, and touch ups.
Paint the trim outside, and stain the decking.
Lay Wallpaper in Powder Bathroom.
Do landscaping.
Pour concrete for sidewalks.
Finish wood floor/carpet floors.

Gas!

Our propane tank was put in a couple weeks ago, and as of yesterday, they hooked up the gas under the cooktop! Maybe we'll be cooking pancakes, as Jaxon says, before we know it!

The wood is coming along as well; master bedroom left to do, and the carpet will be put in tomorrow, in the kids rooms.

The lights in the kitchen are so big, sometimes I don't like them, but then sometimes I just don't even notice them!

And a setback.  The tub that was tiled all the way around already. When they went to put the tub in it didn't fit! So the ripped out all the tile and frame work, and have re-built it. So now it is ready for tile work again!

Tile and Wood

Tile has been working hard this past week. YAY! We have tile in the kitchen, hallway, laundry room, powder bathroom, and craft room. They are nearly done with the floor everywhere. They also started and finished the backsplash!

And as of this morning they were grouting the backsplash and the floor that they had done!

Starting to really look like a kitchen!

They also did the white subway tile backsplash in the laundry room!

The wood guys actually came and started a couple days.

And the master bath....... Still working in that pesky shower! And finally starting on the tub deck and walls. Still no tile on the floor in the master bath!

Small steps!

Accepting the Facts

Gosh, it's hard accepting the facts that the move in date keeps getting pushed farther back. I mean there is no "move in date" per say, but when no one cracks the door of the house for 6 days, working days, it's not likely you are going to move in soon. I just don't understand the building process. One thing I do know is it is full of lies.

So, this weekend, we had to accept the cold, hard facts, again, that it is just not even possible that we will be in the first of March. With that being said, it causes some problems with us needing to go ahead and move out, so Jason's brother can move in. Where do we go? How long will we actually have to be there until it's done? This means we have to move our stuff TWICE.

Luckily, things are going to work out for us to stay in our house one more month. That's what it's been for a while now, just one more month

The good thing is the kids don't have a clue of all this stress, and are just happy go lucky with everything. Which reminds me, I just need to let it go.

Both kids bathrooms showers and floors completely done and GROUTED! For some reason, adding the grout makes it just look so much prettier!!

Ready for toilets!! :) And the base boards still need to be painted.

The lady glazing all the cabinets is pretty much done. She finished in the laundry room, and just has to come back to touch up. It looks so good. I'm telling you, the laundry room is going to be fancy, smancy with a chandelier and everything!

Tile Progress & More

Jaxon's Bathroom and the girls bathroom tile floor and showers are all done! Everything is glued down; now, they just need to grout it!

The master shower and bathroom is quite the hold up. Why? I don't even know. Seriously, hardly any progress to report after a week. :(

The playroom is striped!! I love it! And a ceiling fan!! Yay!

But, other progress was made. The security system and air conditioners units were put in!!

What's left?
1. Finish tiling master bathroom, and kitchen floors.
2. Wood floors and carpet floors.
3. Paint the trim outside, and stain the decking outside.
4. pour concrete sidewalks/driveway outside.
5. Install the propane tank.
6. Rock the Vent-a-Hood in the kitchen.
7. Paint the baseboards, and touch-ups inside.
8. Paint the garage.
9. Glaze the Laundry Room cabinets.
10. Put Hardware on.
11. Install appliances.
12. Finish hanging lighting fixtures.
13. Measure and install mirrors for bathrooms.
14. Lay wallpaper in powder bathroom.
15. Do some landscaping.

Can it be done in 3 weeks? :)

Moving On

I wish we were moving IN, but we are just moving on with a little more progress.

The painters are pretty much done; they will come back after floors are in, and do the baseboards, touch ups, and paint the dining room. There is still outside painting to be done also.

A lady that lives here does some glazing, striping, or any other kind of special paint job that you want.

So, she did the girls bathroom glazed, and she did these glossy stripes in Kylee's room. I like how they turned out!

And she is also going to do horizontal stripes in the kids playroom! Excited to see that finished!!

They delivered lights and fans!!

And they put them up!!!

The tile guys are here working too!! I would be excited, but it is just going so slow! They are trying to finish the master shower and Jaxon's shower, and start on the master tub.

There's just a long way to go on the floors..... That being said they did deliver the floor tile!!

COLOR!! and More

This IS the paint color! Yikes! I wanted to throw up when I first saw it. I didn't like it. It's called Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. Supposed to be the "perfect greige". It just looked all brown....

But, I went back the next day, and I liked it better. It's starting to look more gray to me. This is the main color in the house.

The pictures show Maggie's room, the mud entry area, the hallway, and Jason's desk area, all the same color.

The dining room, craft room, kids bathrooms, Kylee's room, and laundry room  have a different color. The painting should ALL be done this week, and then next week they can start outside.

Below is the laundry room; the cabinets are painted a lite gray, and will have a glaze put on them!

The girls bathroom got a glaze on their cabinets. I was nervous about this, but I like it, more and more!

And yesterday, they installed the laminate in the craft room and the laundry room.  The pictures are bad, but the lighting is so bad in places in the house its hard to get good pictures.

Septic

The septic guys came late Monday, and finished the whole job Tuesday mid-morning. So, I've decided septic tanks are no big deal, if you know what you are doing.

They dug some big holes, and put two tanks down and laid this huge pipe out from the house. The kids, immediately, get in the BIG hole!!

Yay, for one more thing being checked off the list!

Painted Trim and More

The painters are "nearly" completely done with ceilings, the door casings, crown molding, the cabinets are painted, and all the closets in the house.

With that being said, there is still some brush work that is going to have to be done around some of the door casing because of the routed edge on the molding.

It's taking a long time. But I guess I need to lighten up. They have to cover and tape everything before they start the next, and they are doing a really good job, so I guess that's good.

But, hopefully this week, we will start seeing some colors on the WALLS!!

My Craft Room!

And, the outside is looking cleaned up. Supposed to be getting the septic system put in tomorrow!

Slow Progress

I should be used to slow progress by now, but I'm not! At least it's progress, but still. Looks like we might be in the middle of February.....

The doors were the first thing they starting staining. Those are completely done with the 3 coats of finish on them.

Then they started staining cabinets, and now those are all done with the 3 coats of finish on them.

Now, they are spraying the ceilings, crown molding, baseboards, closet shelves, and painted cabinets with the white trim color. I'm guessing that will take a few days though, and then they will paint walls, maybe next week.....

And a better picture of the island....my favorite thing in the whole house!
