Adios Anthonys

Baker was one of the first of his guy friends to get hitched. I always told him that once one of them got married they all would follow. That was me trying to persuade him to marry me, but that took awhile. Regardless, my hypothesis was right, and within 10 months 4 of his good buddies were married. Only one of them was dating anyone at our wedding if that tells you anything.

So with Weddings come new beginnings, and relocation's. Our very good friends the Anthony's (we attended their wedding in Florida with the gators. See below to read about that trip) took a new job in San Fransisco. Adam and Baker were roomies up until Baker and I got married last October. They lived together for a good three years traveling from house to house together. Kristen and I bonded over Diet Cokes and an obsession with Hot Yoga! The four of us definitely have been close and we are so sad to see them move. Luckily they will be in San Fran and we will be able to visit them there. San Fran is a lot closer then Florida where we all thought they were on their way to.

So before they left we put together a dinner at Bucca Di Peppo's to bed them a proper adios. We had a great turnout and lots of great food. Its still really weird to think that they don't live by us anymore! Good luck to them in San Fran and we can't wait to see them up there!

I Think I Am Ready

I still remember being a kid and having to wear a life jacket at all times while aboard the boat. It was yellow and orange and had one of those straps that wrapped from back to front through my legs. I remember catching my very first fish. It was a catfish and I cried the second I reeled it out of the water. I've taken the Dam Tour more times than I could count, and have said or heard the words "Hit It" enough to last me a lifetime. I've probably fed more popcorn to the fish then I have eaten myself, and forever and ever will I sing the jingle "Jerry's Alive, Jerry's Alive".

19 summers in a row I spent at Lake Mead. Either weeks at a time, or short weekends away, I never missed a summer. Its hard to believe I wont ever be back on the Holiday Mansion! Grandma Decided that this year was the year. I don't blame her. Grandpa has been gone for over a decade now, and I think that is what is the hardest. Every time I pulled my cart up to Admiralty Way I get flashes of me on his lap on the back of the boat talking about fish. I loved when he let me drive the boat. I was "all that" let me tell you.

After grandpa the boat was pretty much my dads, and it quickly turned into a family vacation spot. I don't really remember any other vacation that we went on as kids. It was always to the boat. We would ski, we would tube or ski bob, we would float, go rock jumping we did it all. Every year we got to bring friends and I can't think of any other place that I have so many fond memories of. As soon as we get to the canyon Rebecca and I break out our "Down by the Bay" duet. This last trip we were in separate cars so I called her and we sang together one last time.

The boat is where the Bexi Mexi was born. Becky's famous burrito. Hands down the most eaten meal at the boat. I can go on and on about the Lake. It's just really hard to believe that its all over. I am so grateful for my grandma and all the years she kept the boat and let us use it. She really has been so generous. I'm thankful for my dad and how willing he has always been to be there for us. I know he was getting a bit burnt out and I am sure he is ready for the break.

I am so sad that the boat will be gone. It's still really hard for me to think about. But thank you Dad and Thank you grandma for all the wonderful memories!

With our last trip came really cute pictures. Here are a few for your viewing pleasure!

Skinny Models Banned from Catwalk!

.
A friend of mine sent me this article and I think it is great!

MADRID, Spain (Reuters) -- The world's first ban on overly thin models at a top-level fashion show in Madrid has caused outrage among modeling agencies and raised the prospect of restrictions at other venues.

Madrid's fashion week has turned away underweight models after protests that girls and young women were trying to copy their rail-thin looks and developing eating disorders.

Organizers say they want to project an image of beauty and health, rather than a waif-like, or heroin chic look.

But Cathy Gould, of New York's Elite modeling agency, said the fashion industry was being used as a scapegoat for illnesses like anorexia and bulimia.

"I think its outrageous, I understand they want to set this tone of healthy beautiful women, but what about discrimination against the model and what about the freedom of the designer," said Gould, Elite's North America director, adding that the move could harm careers of naturally "gazelle-like" models.

Madrid's regional government, which sponsors the show and imposed restrictions, said it did not blame designers and models for anorexia. It said the fashion industry had a responsibility to portray healthy body images.

"Fashion is a mirror and many teenagers imitate what they see on the catwalk," said regional official Concha Guerra.

The mayor of Milan, Italy, Letizia Moratti, told an Italian newspaper this week she would seek a similar ban for her city's show unless it could find a solution to "sick" looking models.

Quality, not size

The Madrid show is using the body mass index or BMI -- based on weight and height -- to measure models. It has turned away 30 percent of women who took part in the previous event. Medics will be on hand at the September 18-22 show to check models.

"The restrictions could be quite a shock to the fashion world at the beginning, but I'm sure it's important as far as health is concerned," said Leonor Perez Pita, director of Madrid's show, also known as the Pasarela Cibeles.

A spokeswoman for the Association of Fashion Designers of Spain, which represents those at Madrid fashion week, said the group supported restrictions and its concern was the quality of collections, not the size of models.

Eating disorder activists said many Spanish model agencies and designers oppose the ban and they had doubts whether the new rules would be followed.

"If they don't go along with it the next step is to seek legislation, just like with tobacco," said Carmen Gonzalez of Spain's Association in Defense of Attention for Anorexia and Bulimia, which has campaigned for restrictions since the 1990s.

Pet Peves!

..

A little while ago Baker and I and a couple of our friends went on a little road trip to visit our sister Camilla and her husband Michael in Arizona. While we were there, I some how got hooked on Sonic. I dream about their slushies. Now we recently took a road trip with the Jones' to Vegas for a wedding, and I got hooked on the tater tots.. so much to the point that Kay now calls me Tot. So whats the big deal you ask? I can not stand that they show commercials for Sonic at our house, and there is not a single Sonic in the area. The closest one to us is a 45 minute drive WITHOUT traffic. But how often is there no traffic? It absolutely drives me crazy! Just this morning I was watching Meredith Veira make her debut on the Today show.. and up came one of those Sonic commercials. I was craving a cranberry apple juice slush before I even had time to brush my teeth. Why do they do this to me?

Day at the Races!

So we all know that Baker is a very passionate person and he is very serious about the things he loves. He is never one to keep it all inside when he is doing something he loves. He is always so positive and loves everyone to know how much he loves something. It's a great characteristic to have. I am lucky to have such a passionate husband.. believe me, I never thought I could be such a good cook!

Anyway our day at the races was no different for Bakers passionate side. He was like a kid in a candy store. Busy from race to race, checking stats and filling me in on all the childhood memories. When Baker was a kid his dad owned race horses, and Baker loves to tell me all the stories about the whole family going down into the paddock before their horse would race and taking pictures on the winners circle every time it did. I secretly think Baker would love to own a horse just to be like his dad. It was so endearing watching Baker. You could tell that it was really something that just made him feel like a sense of home. If that makes any sense?

Having said that, even though Mark doesn't own any more race horses we still reap the benefits of his lifelong love. He managed to score us two free tickets to the Club level of the track. What a nice way to spend my first race! When we walked into the racing office to pick up our tickets it only took one look for the guy to recognize Baker. He probably hasn't seen him since he was a little kid, but how can you really forget a face like that? With tickets in hand it was off to the Paddock.

We watched the parade of first horses and decided to make a small wager on the race.. nothing huge it was just for fun. Baker gave me a little lesson on how to pick your horse. You watch them parade first look at the favorites, and pick the one that is the calmest. You also want to look at the odds. I really didn't get it so I just picked the one that had the best name. Favorite or not. My theory proved me right.. at least for the first race, and my horse came out on top! The day was starting to be great for me.

After race one it was back to the Paddock. Baker had his choice, I had mine. We compromised with Bakers pick. Lucky for us Baker was right.. we were two for two! The next race was the big race of the evening so Baker thought rather then picking the winner we should pick the Exacta. That is when you pick the first and second place horses to finish. Brother Derek which was the Kentucky Derby favorite was running this race, and his odds were pretty high. So Baker gave my a few dollars to bet on the Exacta. If you know me, you know that I am not really one to go with the crowd at times, so secretly I put a couple dollars on my horse of choice. Cindago. I picked this horse because my Mother in Laws name is Cindy.. similar enough right? Well guess who pulled it off? CINDAGO! I think Bake was a little mad I went behind his back.. but you aren't suppose to tell who you put your money on before a race.. its bad luck right?

We managed to stay for three more races, but with no other wins. We walked away with enough money to cover the parking our lunch and a 3 dollar soda from the track. What a fun day to spend with Baker. I absolutely loved hearing him talk about all his memories growing up, and how much he looks up to his dad. Can't wait for next racing season!
