Camp Kitsap

One of Sean's major yearly events is the Kitsap Friends Of Scouting Breakfast. It's a huge event, in the vicinity of 250-300 business people and community leaders are in attendance. Held in the early morning, there is always a delicious breakfast, an excellent keynote speaker, and some fun Scouting pageantry.  This year, Sean decided to put Patrick on the program, saying the opening prayer. There are always some Boy Scout aged kids involved in the program, but he has hesitated about involving Cub Scouts for logistical reasons. But, well, Patrick was game and if anyone could do it, he could, right? :)
They did sit down and write out the prayer so that he would stay on track and say the important things, but he reads with such feeling, I don't think very many people knew he was reading. Anyway, we went in the day before to do a sound check and make sure he was comfortable in the ballroom he would be in.
The next morning one my of wonderful friends got up really, really early to come over and stay with the girls while I took Patrick to the breakfast. When we got there he mingled like a pro, shaking hands and greeting people. Kid has NO fear, which is a great trait to have in the situation. I tried for a picture of Sean and him, but Sean was still at maximum stress level so we got the fake smile.

Once the program got started,  Patrick lined up behind the boys who were doing the flag ceremony and the trio of Scouts who were singing the National Anthem (a capella, and BEAUTIFULLY) and waited for his turn. I decided it wasn't a good idea to be snapping pictures during a prayer, but I wish I could have. He was so dang cute up there. He gave a very nice invocation and was sincere in prayer which was important to me, that he pray genuinely, not like a theatrical performance. When he came back to our table, he was greeted with may compliments on his bravery and the good job he did in front of all those people.

While eating our breakfast, one of the people given a few minutes was Senator Derek Kilmer. Sean had invited him on the off chance he'd be in town and he was, and attended which was nice. Patrick strongly affiliates with the Democratic party (or at least he thinks he does! ;)) so he was happy to see the good senator in attendance.

So much so, that he needed a photo op. They had a nice little chat about Patrick's future and how impressed Senator Kilmer was with Patrick's contribution to the program.

Just a shot of the room, this is only one side. Huge crowd for a little boy to speak in front of. He did have a few friendly face there though, several ward members who are friends of scouting and other friends of ours were in attendance.

Such a cute little Cub Scout! Scouting has done some really good things for Patrick and has given him some special opportunities already in life. I know I was kind of a "scouting doubter"  at one time, as many moms are, but I am loving the influence is is having on my son. He did a fantastic job and this was a morning to remember. Not to be left out, it was also awesome to see my husband at work, pulling off an event of this scope. He is really phenomenal at his job and there aren't many who would be cut out for all that in entails. He loves his work and it shows in his execution of these big scale events, and the little day to day interactions with volunteers and scouts alike.
After the breakfast was over (we headed out a little early, missing the keynote speaker, the CEO of Alaska Airlines) we raced back home to change clothes and grab school gear and get Patrick to school on time. Fortunately it was late start Wednesday and he made it on time to preserve his precious 100% attendance record. Phew! The girls and I swung by later and took him a Wendy's happy meal for lunch as a "good job" surprise. He earned it!

President's Day at the Pool

I decided about halfway through January that we needed a little water in our lives and planned WAY ahead that we would be at the Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center for President's Day. My kids are a lot like me in that they get a lot of pleasure out of anticipating fun events....maybe just as much as the actual joy of the event. Someday I'll have to try springing a fun thing on them, but usually I tell them early, hype things up and let them look forward to it. They were thrilled when the big day arrived and dragged out swimsuits, goggles, life jackets and towels. Sean worked a 1/2 day, even though it was a holiday, because he had a big event coming up. We picked him up and noon and headed up to the pool. We had told friends in advance that we were going, and several of them were able to join us there which, of course, just made the day more fun! The kids were thrilled to be in the water, and so was I honestly. I love to swim, and even in an indoor pool, it was a nice little taste of summer in the middle of February.

After swimming, we joined the Mathew's family for ice cream....more summer in February! Yummy, yummy summer! Our kid's have so much fun with Dillon, Charlie, Annabelle, and Baby Leo. We're a little sad already--they'll be moving pretty soon, so it was especially fun to get an outing together!

Valentine's 2013

Well, Valentine's Day has come and gone. The year is already flying by! Kennedy was very excited about Valentine's this year...the girls loves to plan so holidays, parties, and celebrations are right up her alley. She is also getting old enough to remember all the traditions and insists on keeping them ALL up. Which is great. I love her enthusiasm and having a little helper to plan for these things.

The Sunday before the 14th, the kids all ended up in pink and red, so I requested a few pictures. We also had church later in the day that week; we have 8:30 AM church normally this year, but we share a stake center with another stake and they had their stake conference so we had 1 PM Sacrament only that week. They're so cute when they're all ready for church!

I have a feeling the "kiss brother till he cries" picture is going to be a new favorite of every photo shoot!
I eventually talked them into blowing kisses at me instead of torturing him!

Yep, they're silly! I sure love this little family of mine!

For Family Home Evening we cranked out the school valentines. We kept it super simple this year and that was nice!

Valentine's morning. I had the table prepped and ready to go. The buckets had a few little things from us, and gifts and cards from both Monga Nay and Nana.

A little something to start the day for Daddy as well. We hardly even saw each other on Valentine's Day this year, but that's okay. Some years are like that.

I picked up there cute little mailboxes at Target early in the month and for a Family Home Evening we decorated them and started leaving each other little love notes throughout the month. Kennedy was definitely the most faithful note writer, but the rest of us tried to play along. Sean and I made sure they each had new notes from us on the big day. The really loved this....we'll have to make it a new tradition!

Breakfast time! Daddy made heart shaped pancakes. What a guy!

Even though it was not required, Kennedy insisted on a dress for preschool, and of course, a fancy heart shaped hairdo.

When I brought Kennedy and her friend home from school they attacked their valentine boxes and were thrilled with their spoils. It happened all over again when Patrick got home from school, but I neglected the camera for that one.

That night, it was traditional individual heart shaped pizzas all around. Muy delicioso. And muy easy, which I like!

We didn't actually get around to making these on the actual Valentine's Day, but I made them the next night for a girls night/Pride and Prejudice party and they were awesome!
Happy Valentine's Day to all, and to all a good night!

I'm so glad when Daddy comes home!

This time of year is one of those times we see less of Sean than we'd like. The Scouting year has no one really busy season, more like several ups and downs in busyness, especially in the number of evenings Sean is out working. When these crazy-busy weeks happen, the kids are even more thrilled than usual when their Daddy comes through that front door. The most common way they express their love it by tackling him!

Yeah, they like that guy. And, as you can tell, he's able to combine daddy time with workout time! Win-win. :)
We recently moved Patrick's basketball hoop back into his room...just another way to burn off energy until the weather warms up for reals. He and Sean "play" a lot of basketball, but it the bedroom, Daddy is more of a ball return service than a teammate.

Building block towers with Daddy.....no ordinary playtime. The tower must TOUCH THE CEILING!

Until Maren knocks it down! Whoo!  These kiddos have a pretty great dad. Even when he's super busy and super stressed out, he makes time to be their buddy, to be their playmate, and most importantly, to be someone they can turn to for counsel, advise, leaderships and hugs and kisses! Good dads are a huge blessing in children's lives and I'm glad these three have him!
