Leaving the Ship

We left the ship at 8 am on Friday morning and our flight was at 12:20pm to Seattle.  When you cruise they take your luggage the night before you disembark so that you can get off easy and then just pick it up according to the number they give you when you get to the port.  Well when we got off we found one of our bags but not the other.  We looked all over the place and had others looking as well.  I had to fill out a form with all of our information and flight information and they told us to go on to the airport so we wouldn't miss our flight.  They said if they found it they would taxi it to the airport or ship it to us if it was found later in the day.  We were told to ask for a lady by name at the airport and she might know something by the time we got there.  When we got to the airport we happened to ask a lady about this other person and she happened to be standing there with our suitcase.  They had sent it by taxi and since we took a bus and they gave us a 50cent tour of Vancouver it beat us there=)  We were so happy to have our luggage back and our souvenirs since that was what Eden was waiting for at home.  We made our flight and headed to Seattle and then to Dallas from there.  We got into Dallas at 11:30 pm and had to get a hotel and spend the night and then drive home on Saturday morning.

The Olympic torches.  Vancouver looked like a really clean and nice city.  We both would like to go back and visit.

The sunset from the plane that night.

Our Welcome Home sign from the girls.

My parents kept the girls while we were gone and I think the girls had a blast.  They certainly were a hand full when we got back, ha;)  Mom, said they were great while we were gone and we got to talk to them a few times when we were in port.  Michael and I both are so thankful we were able to get away and celebrate our marriage and spend some quality time together.  I would definitely go back to Alaska and cruise again!

Alaska Day 6- Sailing the Inside Passage to Vancouver

Our last day on the boat was cruising through the Inside Passage and into Vancouver on Friday morning when we disembarked.  It was rainy most of that day which I didn't mind since we were having to be in it.

 A penguin towel.

The inside atrium of our ship.  There were 13 floors on the boat.

Our last night before dinner we happened to walk outside and we saw this beautiful rainbow.  It went over the entire boat, it was gorgeous!

 The Inside Passage.

Our table mates.  We had such a great time with them all and were so blessed to get to know them all.

Alaska Day 5- Ketchikan

In Ketchikan we had an excursion to the Misty Fjord National Park.  We took a two hour boat ride to the national forrest and then because the weather was so incredible we got to go further than they usually can because it wasn't very misty that day and it was so clear.  They can usually only get so far because of the dense mist and fog but we got so lucky once again.  The town of Ketchikan was one of my favorites.  The homes are colorful and really nice and the weather there doesn't get that cold.  It does rain a lot there though since it is a rainforest and all.  There were a lot of seaplanes around that town and it was fun getting to watch them take off and land.

Some of the town and homes.

They have to largest Coast Guard station in the area.

Caught an eagle flying by our boat.

We even spotted deer on the coast line.

A totem pole village on the outskirts of Ketchikan.

A volcano plug on the way to the Misty Fjords.

 The Misty Fjords National Park.

It was so beautiful with the mountains blunging into the ocean.   Usually these mountains are covered in mist and hard to see the tops of.

The trees are perfect in Alaska and so pretty.  I kept waiting for a bear to wonder out onto that little beach area to get some fish.

They had seaplane tours into the Fjords and this one landed on the water.

So of the mist starting to creep in as we were leaving.

On the way back to Ketchikan we saw some seals hanging out on something.

 Isn't this town so cute?

I could totally live in either of those blue houses=)

The seaplane takeoff and landing area.

The only kind of bear we saw=(

After our excursion we just walked around town and went into several shops and stores.  The town is really nice and clean.  They have a really good Chocolate Store in town and we splurged for a little treat.
Our last towel monkey!

Alaska Day 4- The Icy Straight/Hoonah

On day 4 we did not have any excursions planned.  Our ship was tethered off the Icy Straight.  They are known for their fishing and crab.  There are a lot of salmon, halibut, and crab around there.  Besides the whale tours there wasn't much to do around there.  We went on a hike and saw some more of the rainforest.  The trees are so big they are really magnificent.

Michael looking really small compared to some of the trees around there.

Most of the root system for the trees are very superficial.

After a while, we caught a bus over to the town of Hoonah.  It is a little town where some of the Tlingit Tribe people live.  They really live off the land and the sea, true Alaskan natives.
 Town of Hoonah.

A fresh crab that was about to be boiled for lunch;)

 A cute little church there.

There were eagles EVERYWHERE in Hoonah, probably because of all the fishing that is done there.

Eagle nests are huge!  This nest was right across the street from the elementary school there.

There were fifteen to twenty eagles at a time here on this little coast line.  CRAZY!

The Tlingit people are known for their totem poles and carvings.

We tried to pick up a random bear excursion in Hoonah but the guys couldn't find anymore people wanting to go so we missed out again on seeing a bear.  This day was pretty relaxing.
