Katie's Surprise Party

For my 28th birthday we hadn't planned much. I picked out the purse I wanted, we planned a dinner date, and I had some sweet friends drop by with treats (and lots of coke). But I started to realize something was up, I just didn't exactly know what. So on our way home from dinner, Ben's blu-tooth says "text from Jeni Rawlins" (my good friend). So then I figured we were doing something with friends :) Well we walk in the door and my cute girlfriends jump out and yell surprise! I had never had a surprise party before, and loved that Ben was so cute to plan one. He had bought treats, and got the help from some my friends Jeni and Celeste to put it all together. It was so sweet!

Deacon turns 2!

Our little boy turned 2! He is energetic, hilarious, animated, mischievous, sweet, cuddly, and rough and tough. He has quite the piercing scream, loves to throw himself to the ground, tackle Paige to the ground, and likes to stick his hands in his dirty diapers. He definitely exhausts me. But at night, when he knows he's supposed to be in bed, he sneaks down and uses his sweet little minion voice (it's still very hard to understand a lot of what he says), snuggles up to me, and uses the very corner of his baby blanket to wipe his ultra-long eyelashes. And then you just kiss his cheeks and forget about all the naughty things he did that day. Oh Deacon.
Stats: I don't remember exactly, but he was about 97% for weight (33 pounds?), and 75% for height. He now has all of his hearing back since getting ear tubes, but his speech seems to be a bit delayed from all the time he didn't hear well. He also hates all doctors now from all of his shots from ear infections.
Some of his favorites:
Nicknames:
Foods: horribly picky eater. Would choose to live on milk, graham crackers, and go-go squeeze
Activities: the park, wrestling, hide and go seek, making everything a sword
Shows: Micky Mouse
Movies: Despicable Me, Toy Story
Books: Dinosaur books
Toys: Toy Story figurines, sword, any form of horse
Phrases: "Go to bed now Paige" (if he's mad at her for anything). Paige pointed out a bird outside, so Deacon thought he should point out something, so he made one up- "A horse!"

Fall Soccer

Paige had another season with the Butterflies. She scored a few goals, but was mainly more interested in hanging out with the girls. She also decided maybe basketball would be better since it wouldn't be so hot...apparently she was not a fan of the 95 degree practices.

Big September Occasions

A few exciting things in September:

-Paige's first day of Pre-K. She was SO excited! Her teacher is Mrs. B, she goes twice a week, and she absolutely loves it.

-She also had her first day of dance at a "real studio". She's doing ballet and tap this year.

-Deacon (whether he wanted to or not) had a big occasion: giving up the binky. He was extremely addicted to his bink-binks, and wanted them all the time. My plan was to cut holes in the bottom, but when I took a closer look at them, I realized they already had holes! Gross. So we just threw them in the garbage and didn't look back. I was terrified to take them away, but he did remarkably well.

-We got our kitchen painted! We had always wanted white cabinets, and when we discovered how reasonably priced it is here, we went for it! We also had them paint some other rooms in the house, including the master. It was quite the week, living basically in the movie room and eating out of a mini-fridge and drive throughs, and trying not to gag from the horrible primer smell, but it was so worth it. We love it!

-My first Time Out for Women. (Maybe not a "Big Occasion", but fun!) I went with a group of friends and we got a hotel so we could stay up way too late chatting.

San Diego- Tad & Sage's Wedding

I made a quick trip to San Diego for my cousin, Tad's, wedding. It was fun to hangout with all the relatives, see the beautiful wedding, play tourist in San Diego, and most importantly get a little mommy break.

August

August in Dallas means triple digits everyday. Thank goodness for a neighborhood pool, gym water park, and AC.

Deacon really hit his stride in the tantrum department. We even took him to the doctor, thinking something might be wrong (ear infection, teething), but no, they said his crankiness is just his personality.

Paige started seeming more grown-up as we got ready for pre-k to start. We also started doing family "runs" in the morning to gear up for soccer season.

Ben planned "Bachelor" dates, complete with date cards and surprises. It was adorable.
Amy and Dillon came up for a Vikings game in the giant Jerry dome. This meant we got to meet baby Trevor!

We had another successful year of summer friend camp, this year with a jungle safari themed day!

Paige's 4th birthday party

To keep with tradition, we had Paige's party with family in WA. We went with a pink princess theme, played "name that princess song", had a scavenger hunt, and a castle pinata. And she loved every second.
