Leah doll
T is out of town for two weeks and I am about to pop, so I am putting myself on bed rest today. I really don't want to go into labor while he is gone. I have 4 weeks left and feeling sooo heavy and uncomfortable. I am so anxious to hold and snuggle this little one. And also anxious to wear normal size clothes and be able to bend over with out pulling a muscle and grunting.
more about me later, this post is about my sweet Leah. I have really loved having a 5 year old girl so far. She is much sweeter than the 3-4 year old version of herself. She is a model student in her preschool, listens intently and is quick to learn all her nursery rhymes and started taking home take-home readers long before any other kid. The only problem is, as soon as she gets home she turns into a little stinker and doesn't like to listen or read her books. She and maddie play good for most of the day, Maddie tags along with Leah and her friends most days, and so far they have been really good about it and play with Maddie too. Leah is so excited for the baby to come and has offered to get up in the middle of the night and rock the baby if we get a small rocking chair for her. Today she came in with a pad and paper and took my lunch order so I could stay in bed. She made me a sandwich of lunch meat and mayo and mustard- it was actually pretty good. She brought me ice water and some dried cranberries on the side, she said I needed something healthy. Her favorite games to play are house- which involves setting up doll beds all over my room and wearing my high heels and jewelry. Packing a diaper bag filled with doll clothes and pushing her dolly around in a stroller. She is still very attached to Dolly, she got for Christmas as a baby. She also loves to pretend to be a dog with maddie or make clubs, her word for blanket fort. She is my little artist, can sit and color or draw for hours, every scrap of paper around has a Leah drawing on it. She especially likes to make love notes for daddy and will draw pictures of the two of them holding hands, she leaves these on his nightstand for him almost every other day or so. She is taking gymnastics with her BFF haylie down the street. She loved it at first but I think she is getting a little bored with it- sadly after almost a whole school year of gymnastics she still is at the same level as when she started. She is the biggest girl in her class and just doesn't have the natural skills of the other girls. We might go back to dance in the fall if she can take a class with maddie. She has been taking piano lessons from my friend down the street for about 3 months and has her first recital is coming up in a week. She is going to play Mary had a little lamb, she loves going to piano, and is looking forward to wearing her dress at her recital. She loves to dress up still, loves to put on her Sunday dresses and tights and clip crazy big flowers in her hair. A couple weeks ago I took her for a summer haircut, and we decided to cut it just a bit shorter so she could donate her hair to locks of love, which is an organization that makes wigs for children with cancer for free. She looks so cute with her short hair cut and it will be so much cooler in the summer for her. I cried when I saw all those blonde ringlets get chopped off, it hurt my heart. She loves her haircut and the attention she gets from it. I really hope it grows back the same, I really really loved her hair so much.

1/13/2012
I can't believe how lazy I have been lately, this pregnancy has wiped me of all my energy and any motivation to do anything. I am looking forward to the nesting stage- hopefully then I will want to get up and do something. I feel like I have slept through all of October, November and December. My poor house, my poor kids, my poor hubby!!
Owen is in basketball now- he is doing so much better than last year, thank goodness. He still isn't a natural and isn't very aggressive, but it is great exercise for him and helps me to have something to put in my schedule. I will get up and get dressed and that makes a big difference to my day. He has some really good little buddies in his class and he is such a goofball at school. A neighbor says the lunch monitor knows him on a first and last name basis and everyday has to remind him to talk more quietly and quit being so silly- what happened to my little shy boy?!? He is doing really well in 1st grade, reading is great but slow- i was surprised to see he got a 2/4 on reading fluency on his last report card. math is his strongest subject- he can do things in his head quick and understands numbers really well. He checks out books from the library on space and the earth, always been my curious little guy. the other night we were reading a children's atlas, he hugs me and says I love learning with you. Christmas was a blur, Owen got ninjago Lego's- his obsession lately. His birthday was an obstacle course, Amazing race themed party. He had so much fun, loves to run around and be silly with his friends. He has two huge permanent teeth in the front now- he looks so different to me. We are starting to talk to him about his baptism coming up, he has such a strong testimony and defends what he believes passionately. He really knows what is right and at the slightest feelings of discontent or wrong doing he feels it and it makes him quite uncomfortable. He doesn't play with Leah and Maddie as much, but when they do it always involves setting up "clubs" or forts around the living room. They still love having sleepovers every Friday night. Still particular about his clothes- hates jeans. I bought him some elastic waistband jeans, and I was telling him they feel the same as sweat pants, he says to me "Mom I care about the feel and the look of my pants" ha ha. He is sweet to this baby and will want to hug my belly everyday. He doesn't want a brother though, he says he wants his boy time all to himself.

Owen just finished his first season of basketball. The first practice was so hard for him and sooo hard for me to watch. The other boys had all obviously played before and just had that natural athletic talent so poor Owen felt so out of place. The first drill was to dribble down the court and back and he was so embarrassed, he just kept losing control and getting so frustrated. He spent the whole hour on the verge of tears, rolling his tongue around the inside of his cheek. I just wanted to run out there and rescue him, and I cried on the way home. He is still my baby boy- it just hurt me to see him so uncomfortable, but I just had to let him go through with it. By the third practice he was fine, I don't think he ever said a word to his coaches or any other player but he learned to play and wasn't clinging to my leg. He scored his first basket at his very last game- T and I both looked at each other and almost cried. It was so fun to watch him, can't wait for soccer, where I am sure we will go through the whole process again. Love that kid.

remember when we all used to blog
Look at me updating the blog! I guess it's the Fall weather that has me in the mood- who knows :)
I'm not even going to try to play "catch up" so just imagine lots of posts of fun summer things and funny things the kids have said.
Owen turned 6 on Monday. This year he wanted a Bionicle Party. Last year I spent weeeeks planning his Star Wars party - this year I planned it the night before on a post-it, and was frosting blue cupcakes 3 minutes before we left for the park. I think he had just as much fun.
Leah is such a good little student at her preschool. She has never once had to "move her worm off the green apple". Even when the whole class ran and hid while her teacher was in the bathroom- Leah stayed on her carpet square and waited. Funny how different she is at home....

May
Here is what we've been up to this month
The kids and I have decided to do Friday Field trips. It will be fun to be a tourist in our own community and try to find different places to go each week. Here we are at the Springville Art Museum. My kids surprised me by actually wanting to look at all the paintings, a few of them really got their attention. Leah tried to pose as all the statues and Owen laughed at every naked bum.
this one looked so much like my Mads- only a boy version :)

Mother's Day pix- We were laughing at Leah's poses, she said "Oh I'm just practicing" - funny girl

The tulips are in bloom :)
The garden is coming along
I spent hours installing the drip line and planting three salad boxes, it still needs a lot of work- one day it will be gorgeous :)
Terrell has been so busy. This time of year there are a lot of events so he will be traveling for most of this month and the next. He spent 10 days in Germany at an event, and the last couple of days he was able to take a road trip through the countryside, toured several castles, and visited a concentration camp.

Another field trip- took the kidlets to a Real Salt Lake Game. I leaned over and told T it felt a lot like sacrament meeting- passing out treats, the kids rolling under the seats,Leah yelling "who farted", Maddie flirting with the people behind us, Leah making hand prints in the spilled beer- well, maybe not the beer part.

The last two months
Here's what we have been up to the last 2 months...
T turned 31, I like to remind him that he is now closer to 40 than 20. He likes to remind me that in less than 6 months I will be too- eeek!

I have been planning the garden and doing lots of yard projects. T built some great garden boxes for me and now I just need to get them planted.
Owen is into dinosaurs now and spends a lot of time reading his dinosaur books and researching online- PBS kids has a great dinosaur web page for preschoolers. He told me today he wanted to be a paleontologist- but only if he was in charge of the shovel.
He is still very much into Lego's and spends hours building things everyday.

Leah has been learning her letters and numbers and knows a lot of new songs. She is our little entertainer. She refuses help in getting dressed and often comes downstairs in some interesting outfits. I love it- I love her spunky personality and her headstrongness. She has been getting multiple time-outs for yelling and having a "bad attitude" toward mom. One day I was so tired of hearing it I told her I would put a drop of hot sauce in her mouth the next time she yelled at me. Oish is this too harsh? I have mixed feelings. So not even three minutes later she yells from time-out. "Mom when I get out of time out I am going to punch your stomach!" She got a teensy smidgen of hot sauce and cried out "Ahhh make my mouth perfect again!" Sometimes you just have to pretend to be mad because she is so funny.
She has only gotten the hot sauce twice- it seems to have cured the yelling at mom problem :)
We are entertained by her little prayers- as all moms of three-and-four-year-olds are. My top favorites from the week "Help Santa to bring me more toys" "Help mom to get more rest so she isn't cranky" and the daily "Help me not to get the hot sauce"
Maddie's vocabulary is growing so fast. I love the way she says "Mummeee" and "dooby dooby doo" for scooby doo. She is adventurous for her little size- can climb to the top of Owen's bed which really makes me nervous. When we are at McD's or any play land she always finds a little group of friends to play chase or her tickle game with.

Over Easter weekend I went on a fabulously fun road trip with my three sisters and one of my brothers. We drove from here to Arizona and had a couple fun days of hiking, laying by the pool, shopping, juicy conversations, and visiting with my grandparents and the Sanft family.

winter blahs
It has been a really long time since I have logged on, I have the winter blahh's and am not motivated to do much. We really need some sunshine out here.
A couple weeks ago T and all 5 of his brothers and 2 sisters ( and a handful of cousins, spouses and in-laws) all came for a fun snowboarding weekend "Rohm-a-Palooza". It was fun to see all the Rohm kids together- they are a fun mix of people and I feel so lucky to be in this family.
Leah turned three this month, she had a big princess dress up tea party- it was a little nuts but fun. She has learned to write some letters now and is really excited about preschool in the fall. We are glad to be out of the terrible two's with her- but three seems to be just as hard. Don't let those little blond curls fool you.
Owen is reading now, and loves it. We registered him for kindergarten this month and took him on a tour of the school. He is very excited to say the least. He lost his first tooth- isn't he too young!!??!!
Maddie is still our little charmer- the cutest little thing on two legs. She and Leah are starting to play a little more together, I love watching them together on these very rare moments. She talks a lot now, lots of uhh-ohh, daddy, doggie, book, and up- but mostly "NO NO NO eee-ahhh (Leah) " She is officially in nursery now at church and loves it. She is our most outgoing one- when all of T's family was here, she had no problem snuggling up to any uncle or aunt.
