Party Time!

It was a party weekend at the Smith house.  Yahoo!  Our Bethany is turning 11 years old tomorrow.  She's just as sassy and fun as always and she only gets better with age.  Bethany asked a few friends over on Friday for an afternoon of iceskating.  Sadly, I forgot my camera so you will just have to imagine the fun that that was.  (Well, Amber didn't think it was fun and whined the whole time in spite of a Skittles bribery to shut the heck up.  Alas!   Next time she is so staying home.)
After iceskating we came home for pizza, strawberries and cupcakes.  Yum!
Cute girls everywhere you turn!
Bethany got a moose pillow pet, a gift certificate to the book store, a gift certificate to the nail salon and a latch hook kit.  Rock on!  Thanks girls!
Cake time!  Bethany was very definite about her cake choices this year.  She wanted marshmallow flower cupcakes for her friend party and oreo ice cream cake for her family party tonight.  She has pretty good taste I would say.  The dinner choice is somewhate questionable, however.  She wants both spaghetti and macaroni and cheese.  Isn't that slight carb overload?
And once the girls went home, it was party time for the adults.  The Breinholt annual Bunko night is an event not be missed.  And this year the event was even better because it was an 80's theme.  Oh yeah!!!  I totally forgot there was a theme and came terribly underdressed.  Never again though.  I am already planning out my outfit should I  be invited to such an affair in the future.  I won the even steven award for having the same number of wins and losses and I got this sweet 80's song cd.  I know, I should have gone for the "Don't Hassle the Hoff" biography of (who else?) David Hasselhoff. You can't win them all, I guess.

And here I am after the horrific sunburn I acquired yesterday sometime between 8:30 in the morning and 4:30 in the afternoon when I finally stepped back indoors.  You can't see it too well in this picture but I actually have tan/burn lines where my sunglasses were.  That has never happened before.  Sam just shook his head and told me he wouldn't sit by my side later when I'm dying of skin cancer.  How rude.  Then Amber asked me, " Does this mean you're on drugs?"  Huh?  Anyhoo, I'll be carrying an umbrella and sunscreen with me at all times from now on.

Spring Break is Over. Boo Hoo!

Aw, spring break.  A time when I don't have to nag or worry (okay, I still do that a little) for a whole glorious week.  Vacation did not start out very well last weekend when we woke up to find that it was snowing on the day of Amber's first long-awaited t-ball practice.
She didn't care though.  She just put on a sweatshirt and toughed it up like a champ!
I kow it doesn't look that cold in this picture, but believe me it was.  The practice went on for about a half an hour before the coaches decided frost bite was about to set in.  Amber and her friend Violet are the only girls on the team but they don't seem to mind.  Amber loves to hit the ball, but fielding is not exactly her forte.

Thankfully, after the weekend, the weather went from about 30 degrees to about 70 degrees for the rest of the week.  Sam talked me into two separate hikes during the week.  The first was the North Domingo Baca trail and the second was Tent Rocks.  We took Miranda and Bethany on the Tent Rocks hike.  They were absolute troopers!
The trail was very steep and the entire hike lasted about two hours but neither girl  uttered a word of complaint.
Here they are at the top of the mountain.  There were about a million other people who decided to take this particular hike at the same time we did.  I've never seen it so crowded before.  I guess that's Friday of spring break for you.
What a great view!
Bethany threatened to jump but we convinced her that she still has much to live for.  Phew!
Miranda on top of the world!  I think the girls' favorite part of the hike besides hunting for Apache Tears was seeing our car way down below in the parking lot.

Chad "Esther Williams" Smith

This weekend was our youth fundraiser; an elegant, subdued affair as always. :)  Okay - not so much.  It was a lot of fun though.  And our youth leaders worked their little tushies off to make it a great success.  Somehow they even talked the priests into this fabulous rendition of "My Heart Will Go On".
The boys had a great time.
I even saw Chad crack into a rarely seen grin at several points during the production.
 Usually he looks like this.
Or worse, like this.  Have you ever seen such a scary looking teenager?  Yikes!  Our house is not exactly Disney Land these days.
So, here for your viewing pleasure are the La Cueva Ward Priests in all of their glory.  Enjoy!
