Spring Break: The Alamo and McKinney Falls State Park

Spring Break: Capitol, Natural Bridge Caverns, and Aquarium

More March Happenings

I got the crazy notion to cut about 8 inches off my hair! I was able to donate it.  I don't like the short cut as much as I thought I would.  I got some bangs and I really don't like them.  It seems I always do this.  I get tired of my hair being long, so I cut it off, but then don't like it so I grow it back out.

We have an ice cream truck that drives though the neighborhood.  This was the first time it came though this year and the boys were excited! After they finished their Popsicles,  we played in the water hose.  I love how much joy and excitement they have in the little things!

These two boys were so excited for PCM Choir 3 to be here!

Safety first with Sam!

Cool hand Luke at BSF

Sweet Sam helping me carry all my things in at BSF.

Ice Cream date and naps with Sam are the best!

Will played soccer this season.  It was his first time to play a sport (aside from Kung Fu).  He really enjoyed it, and made some new friends.  His buddy Logan was on his team, so that was a lot of fun!

Spring Break

For Spring Break, we headed south bound 35! We stopped to see Granny and David and our cousins.  It's always a lot of fun when all the kids get together.

The next day we went to Austin and stopped at the state Capitol.  The boys had fun walking up all the stairs. Will said he wanted it to be our house - but I told him I didn't want to clean a house that big!

From there, we headed to San Antonio, but made a stop in San Marcos to eat at Gil's Broiler, home of the manske roll! On this trip, we tried to find local places where we could stop at eat.  If you are ever in or around San Marcos - Gil's is a definite must!

Then it was on to Natural Bridge Caverns.  I went as a kid (although my parents didn't remember it until they saw this picture of the boys with the dinosaur) so it was fun going back.  The boys absolutely loved going down underground and seeing all the caves with the stalactites and stalagmites. They did pretty good with the walk. We just had to carry Sam some.

The next day our plans changed because it was raining. We had planned on going to Government Canyon Natural Area to spend the day hiking, but with the rain, we had to find something else to do. We went to the Aquarium. The boys really enjoyed it, but Cameron and I found it lacking.  The coolest part was the sting ray cove where we were able to feed and feel sting rays.  The rest of it was not impressive at all.  There was a room in the back with lots of bounce houses and the kids loved it. But there were soooooo many people in there, it was hot, stinky, and a little nerve racking trying to keep up with all three of the boys.  We bribed them with swimming at the pool and headed back to the hotel.

That night, we had a recommendation from Cameron's cousin to eat at local Longhorn Cafe.  It was a fun little family atmosphere with amazing burgers and friendly service! Then we found a fun little local ice cream place and I had blueberry muffin ice cream that was fabulous

The next day we went to the Alamo and Riverwalk. The boys love the Davy Crockett movies, so seeing the Alamo was so fascinating to them.   They had fun on the ferry ride around the Riverwalk, but weren't a fan of walking that day.

On our way home, we stumbled upon McKinney Falls State Park and had the best time! We hiked for about 3 hours and the boys did great for most of it.  Sam had to be carried for probably the last hour and ended up falling asleep.  Luke wanted to be carried about the last 20 minutes.  We were able to see the upper and lower falls, but weren't able to cross either because of all the rain we've had this year.  It really was beautiful and is a place we definitely want to go back to.

Of course we had to make a pit stop to see the cousins on our way home too.  Never a dull moment with these 4!
We had a fabulous Spring Break trip! I love spending quality time with our family making memories!
