Day 2: Confession

Okay, I have a confession to make. Because we got out here 12 hours later than anticipated yesterday we weren't able to do our grocery shopping yesterday so, yes, we broke the sabbath day and went shopping today. If you know me very well you know this is something that makes me feel horribly. I hate making anyone work on Sundays, afterall it's one of the ten commandments. We're still on CHI time, so I feel sorry for the people below us because the girls woke up at 5:30am local time...and the hotel breakfast didn't open until 7. Because we weren't able to do the shopping yesterday that meant that we didn't buy Pull-Ups yesterday, we had one left to change Taylor into this morning, but yup you guessed it as soon as we put it on her she pooped, so I sent Daylan rushing to the store while I dumped it out and forced Taylor to put it back on. Anyways, so we went around and got our groceries and then came home and we all crashed for 3 hours...oh it felt so good. We tried In N Out Burger which Daylan hasn't stopped talking about since he was out here a month ago. It was okay for me, but since I can't taste things unless they're an extreme, I didn't get the greatness of it. On the way home Daylan got a call from work and they were freaking out because one of the guys messed up the first computer installed with the new 911 software...so Daylan dropped us off and rushed to the Police Dept to try and fix it so they could get the 20 computers loaded with it by tomorrow morning. The girls are in bed now, watching the Pursuit of Happiness because we don't get Disney or any other channel that shows kid friendly shows in Primetime.
Well I guess it's time for Day 1 to close. Tomorrow we're off to work on our Father's Day surprise for Daylan.

Day 1: Please have mercy on us.

For the past two weeks we've had a lady from church staying with us while she waited to close on a condo so her family could move to CHI. She recently started working for United and offered the girls and I tickets to go to California with Daylan on his business trip. So our morning started with our car service picking us up at 6am CHI time...here's a breif summary of how it went from there:
6:30am - Check-in bag #2 is 8lbs to heavy, so we take my purse out and start loading it up with items out of the suitcase.
Flight Attempt #1 - 8:05am - as of the night before we were the only 3 standbys...time of flight 35 standbys, 32 got on...we found out that becasue we're flying with companion fares we are the very last option to receive seats...Daylan had a ticket purchased for this flight but took the bump to stay with us...but our luggage went with this flight....
Flight Attempt #2 - 9:03am - run to concourse B...oversold....
Flight Attempt #3 - 9:48am - run back to concourse C...all standbys on except us...
Flight Attempt #4 - 11:55am - last second seats open...until the people came running down the councourse because their connection had just arrived...so close....
Flight Attempt #5 - 1:12pm - all standbys on but us...
Flight Attempt #6 - 3:10pm - flight WAY over sold...
Flight Attempt #7 - so why we're sitting there I notice that the flight to Orange County right next to us still has extra seats available so Daylan goes to see if we can transfer to that flight...WOOHOO! they transfer me and the girls no problem...then they get busy so they have another lady call to check and see if they can transfer Daylan because he had a confirmed seat on an earlier flight...good news it yes they can...bad news is someone pee'd in Jeanne's Wheaties yesterday morning and she said she wouldn't because she didn't think it was right that he gave his seat up to someone that moring just because we couldn't get on the flight with him...her comes some drama...now Daylan still has a seat on the flight to LAX, but we're no longer on any standby list...
Flight Attempt #8 and #9 - the 4:42 flight gets bumped to the same time as another flight so we have to make a decision as to which flight we're going to try for because they're in separate terminals...we opt to try for the flight that had been delayed..we get to the gate 2 hours early and the standby/seats available list is even... then it just starts growing...of course Daylan gets called to the desk to get his seat as has happened with every other flight and he again explains to them that he'll pass on his seat unless we can all get on the flight together and jokes with the guy about how we'd been at the airport for 11 hours already...about 15 minutes later I freak out when all four of our names dissapear off of the standby list...only for my heart to start pounding when the next screen shows that we now have confirmed seats!!! HALLELUJAH the man had mercy on our souls and gave us seats ahead of the other people as long as the people that were originally on the flight didn't show...now the praying begins for the next hour...yes, Daylan even prayed that there would be a big wreck on I-90 so that people couldn't get to the airport...MIRACLE we get on the flight at 6:00pm, 12 hours after we left the house...we got on the plane and people were so nice to move around so that we could all sit together. 4 hours and 27 minutes later we landed at LAX. Now, to find our luggage that arrived 12 hours ahead of us...good news again they found it no problems, so then we got our car and drove the 50 miles north up to Oxnard and checked into our hotel...we finally all got in bed ar 2am CHI time. We're staying at the Residence Inn so that we could have a full kitchen and we just prefer to stay in Marriotts (and not just because they always come with a Book of Mormon in the drawer).

Well there's day 1 for you, 17 more to go. I'm going to try and do my best to post daily...we'll see how long that lasts :)

My Latest Project

Talcott asked me to head up the committee and create a new school uniform top. This is what I came up with. We'll be adding other uniform items this fall, such as sweaters, jumpers, and sweats.
