Brookhaven Youth Camp-In

Starting on Sunday night, our youth group from Brookhaven had a camp-in at the church. The first night we set up tents in the gym and watched a movie. Some including Aaron stayed up until 3:00 playing Settlers. Monday was a jam-packed day! Aaron had to go to work at 10:00 but I was able to be there all day. We made pancakes and sausage for the kids for breakfast and then we went roller skating and then to Cici's for lunch. From 2-4 we split up the girls and guys and had to come up with a service project. The boys decided to pick up trash and us girls bought sidewalk chalk and bubbles and went to a Daycare and spent our time playing with the kids. The girls had so much fun and didn't want to leave! We went back to the church and made supper and then we went on a video scavenger hunt. Aaron and I are definitely going to do it when we have our own youth group. I did video scavenger hunts when I was in youth group and I loved them. I was probably more excited about going than the kids were. We split up into junior high and high school. Our challenge was to find businesses in Gas City or Marion that began with each letter of the alphabet. The letters were worth various point values. We also got extra points for doing an action at the business with that same letter such as jumping jacks at JC Penny. Then we got extra points for getting an employee to do it with us. The winner was the team that had the most points. We had a blast but we were so tired at the end! When we got back we had a bonfire and then we made a 10 foot long ice cream sundae! It was amazing! They got a gutter from Lowes and we filled it with ice cream and all kinds of toppings. That night was realized that our video never taped from the scavenger hunt so Pastor Tony asked if we would do it again the next day. Aaron was able to go that time! We wanted to make it more interesting so the kids wouldn't be bored so we decided to do all new businesses and actions. We didn't have a time limit this time so we were able to come up with some pretty creative actions. We we got back we ate lunch and cleaned up and it was time to go home. I had such a blast those few days! Before the camp-in I didn't really know many of the kids very well. During the camp-in I was able to talk to the kids and get to know them better. Wednesday night for church we got to watch the two videos. We laughed so hard! They were hilarious!

Here are some pictures from the camp-in!

The Haircut

Up until last week, Aaron has been getting his hair cut by our friend Angela. It was very hard to find a time for her to do it with her busy schedule and Aaron's hair needs to be cut all the time because it grows so fast and thick! We decided that I should start cutting his hair because it would save us lots of money in the future. Having never cut anyone's hair before I was a little apprehensive. We went to Walmart and bought a trimmer. We went over to the Lodges and Angela helped me. Aaron and I were a little nervous. : ) It turned out well and I really enjoyed it. It was kind of like mowing the lawn and if anyone knows me, they know I LOVE to mow the lawn! I did a pretty good job and I only said oops once. I think Aaron will let me do it again next time. : )

Be Puzzled!

This is a picture of the puzzle that Aaron and I finished yesterday. We thought this accomplishment was worthy of a blog post. It took us over two weeks to finish. My mom got me this puzzle for Christmas. It came in a bag that looked like a chip bag. The reason was because the puzzle was a picture of nothing but chips as you can see. The puzzle was 500 pieces and there was no picture to look off of. It was definitely a piece-by-piece puzzle. We had a mini celebration every time a piece was found...or maybe that was just me. :) Even though many times we wanted to throw the puzzle away, it provided many bonding moments for two puzzle lovers. :)

Aaron Matthew Zehr

Happy Birthday, Aaron! Aaron's birthday was Monday, March 5 and we had a wonderful time celebrating it. In the morning before he went to work I made him french toast on our new griddle. When he got home from work he opened his presents. I got him a Rams visor and a radio broadcast on CD of Albert Pujols and his wife on Focus on the Family. What an amazing testimony of his relationship to Christ! For dinner we went to the Ice House and then went to see Wild Hogs at the theater. I was a little afraid it was going to be not what we expected but it was hilarious!! We laughed so much! We came back and ate scotcheroos! : ) I want to give a big thank you to my in-laws for bringing Aaron into this world...even if he was a little unexpected. : ) I am so thankful that God brought Aaron into my life. I don't even want to imagine what my life would be like without him. He has blessed me so much and continually shows his love for me!

How many buckets does it take...?

Saturday night, after Aaron and I got back from praise team practice at church, we experienced a major leak problem in our apartment. This picture is of the leak in our ceiling...or atleast the FIRST leak in our ceiling. It rained that night causing all of the snow on the roof to melt which was not good for us because our apartment building has a flat roof. The leak wasn't bad at first but it got worse as the hours went by. The picture shows 6 bowls that we used to catch the water but we ended up having to use 12 bowls by the time it was over! Most of it was in the living room but we had a couple leaks in the bedroom too. At one point there was a constant stream of water rather than dripping coming from one spot. We had to empty a couple bowls about every 15 minutes because they filled so fast. Luckily none of the leaks were above anything important. We kept watching the radar to see when it was going to stop. I stayed up until 1:00 to help Aaron empty the bowls. We had a good system by that time. : ) By 2:00 it had finally started to slow down and Aaron went to bed. He set his alarm for about 45 minutes later to get up and check it again to make sure it had stopped leaking. That was a night we will never forget. Aaron says we will laugh at it years from now but it definitely was not fun at the time. Oh the joys of renting an apartment for the first few months of marriage...what memories! : )
