A new destination

Image
If you've read about me and http://thompson-boy.blogspot.com/search/label/india">my little adventures in India , you would know that I didn't sign up for enlightenment or soul searching when I picked that country for holiday but rather just because I love old stuff and shit like that. But like it or not, I came back with new perspective in life and it's a good thing. While I am being more patient at work and learnt forgiveness for stupidity, I am also increasingly impatient when it comes to having the life that I've wanted. I've asked myself if I could be happy knowing that this (refering to my work and space)is what I will be looking at for the rest of my life and without a doubt the answer is no. And no means I have to do something about it. During my travel, I was in awe with people who quit their jobs or took months and sometimes even years just to travel and that I agree is the best way to see the world. There are more or less 196 countries in the world...

What happened to the business?

Image
“Mad Men” returned to great fanfare last night. The nostalgic look at the advertising business in the early 1960s is nothing short of a cultural phenomenon. Those in the ad world are as obsessed as anyone with the series, while often ruing the fact that the agency business is far less glamorous and swashbuckling today in an age of procurement, discount creativity and heightened financial pressure.- Confessions of an Agency CEO For those who aren't in the business, this could mean nothing more than just blabbing over the good old days when things are so called easier, with slower pace and greater budget. In fact I couldn't really see the appeal of Mad Men even though I can throughly understand the industry, maybe it's because I am doing all the nasty bit that at the end of the day, I wouldn't want to spend time watching it all over again, albeit more glamourous. It's true though - in fact in the 80s, even here in Malaysia, advertising was quite glam. There'...

Loving your new look, Will

Image
First it was the mini curls dropping here and there. Love it. Then it's the music. Now's the beard. Oh, cute glasses too. No point explaining cause everyone knows I dig this so much.

Censoring myself

Image
It used to be so easy to just say everything and anything on my mind - after all this country is not only ran but also full of selfish and ugly people that it doesn't take much effort since I like to believe I know better but after awhile, what's the point? You can bitch about traffic, about why people are so stupid to discuss over the accident on the site instead of moving their cars to the side of the road - if it's not for other's sake then at least for your own safety. It is still a road at the end of the day and cars can anytime come running and hit all of you. But that's just us. You can bitch about how things are done, there are so many efficient ways of doing things and yet people never pause to think about how to make things better or the level of service and quality of products here in this country - what you earn doesn't corelate to what you put in and you need to spend alot to really get things in decent quality and even sometimes when you have to pa...

Having a moment

Image
I know what I've said about fashion previously, about it being almost snobbish for the sake of snobbish and we've all lost the plot. What was supposed to be beauty and art has taken on a form of I-am-better-than-thou and so instead of losing my head (and sometimes wallet), I've been reading up on Yves Saint Laurent and going through his designs. So you can say that I am having a YSL moment right now. It doesn't mean that I need to go out and buy a Downtown bag or anything like that. Just appreciating the beauty and the people behind the brand. Of course the latest news (ok not really latest but...) was about Stefano Pilati leaving the house after 8 years or so taking over from Tom Ford. I believe I featured this hot designer daddy on my blog before but why not do it again. I am not 100% convinced Hedi Slimane will be any good at taking over - for those who doesn't know, he was the one who popularized male models looking like boys and cutting designs that are skinni...

the look of gay

Image
I remembered talking about this for many times now and it doesn't seem to get old. The thing that is getting old is me and with more experience, my views on it changed or rather become richer. When you're young, it's easy to be influenced by what is so called cool and it's not hard being cool just as long as you got the money for it. But then as you go along, you realised that everyone is donning the same thing and before you know it, you look just like anyone else. I know don't where the cool factor comes from because it seems like I am looking just like everyone else so I guess it's more to do with fitting in than standing out. Then along come gaydom and before you know it, the tight tees and shit are all in. Heck, they even have a haircut for it and yet again, it's all mass production with everyone looking the same, the same sleevless shirt and the same place they go for their cut and shit. It's all rather limiting isn't it? This is not to say th...

I'll see you in April

Image
Can't wait :)

I think, I see, I know

Image
There is always this romantic concept especially when it comes to the west, one takes a trip down to some less than glamourous nevertheless spritual land and you will imediately think Eat, Pray, Love faster than you fart and to a great extend that is true for many people. The world is indeed fill with lost people and capitalism has left us asking more questions, wondering what is the point of this and that and to when will all unhappiness and yearning for more ends. But that's not the trip I booked for. Perhaps it was more Eat, LookSee and the Love part, I would just be happy with a Fling. But life has a funny way to twist things around and nope, still no Love or Fling but that's kinda expected. After all, I paid for a holiday, not hunk. India is indeed very beautiful, just as I would have expected it to be. I did get alot of whys and whats when people found out that I intended to go there and I am always amazed by those questions - I mean it's one of the oldest civilizatio...

Am I supposed to laugh?

Image
Some things never stay the same, this is something that I've realised when I finally hauled my ass out from the couch to do abit of wardrobe organising and in my case it's time to finally say goodbye to those clothes that I either used to think was cool or fit me back then. Ok, so I was practically a size zero back then and I have hold on to clothes that used to fit me like most of the good memories of yesteryears. But things change, people change and what people used to like isn't the same as today. Case in point, it really baffled me when I was trying (mind you the keyword here is TRYING) to watch this so called popular movie from last year - Bridesmaids. I mean, it is supposed to be funny? Really? Am I supposed to laugh at the mishaps and the loser type lives of some of these women? I mean should I be expecting something considering this is yet another gig from the Apatow money making machine? They make movies like this and Knocked Up and this is supposed to be female em...

It's raining everyday, it seems

Image
They say it's not a matter of how much you earn but rather how much you save - savings as in money that you put away either for investment, or stashed away for those rainy days like when your favourite designer is on sale or finally getting that thing that you have been coverting for millions of years. You know what I mean. But it's never easy, is it? You can see money literally pouring out as soon as it gets in, bills and such and then to entertain all the hungers that you kept well supressed since last month, before you know it the 100 ringgit bill is broken into smaller denominations and then it becomes smaller and smaller till you don't know where it all went. How about pulling out that certain small sized card and just let it swipe away all the blues? (shopping seems to cure everything isn't it?) And then what do you get at the end of the day and at the end of the month? Nothing has changed and you rack up more damages and you continue the same cycle all over again...

Terrified

Cute guy alert. Check out the lead guy. Totally my type. More like terrific :)

It shouldn't be so hard and I shouldn't try so hard

Image
Couple of months back, I think easily 6 or so when I was looking through my old emails and mind you the archive went back as far as 10-12 years ago and I was having abit of laugh with my friends over the silly chain mails we used to send to each another talking about everything and nothing. Back in the days, before blogging there were something called writing emails (abit like e-pen pal) and I took that as a form of ranting and expression. So then there were a few fellas that I used to write to but of course like everything else it died down. I found a particular email from a guy who was studying law in the UK - we corresponded during the days when I just started out as a struggling web designer and somehow we lost the interest to write to each another. This is understandable considering that we were at very different paths of our life, with me desperately to make it in the world and him trying to make sense of studying life. I thought it would be nice to somehow reconnect back after a...

Sudeikis on Porter

Image
Mr Porter has been online for some time now and it will take awhile before they are able to get more stocks and designers of great menswear but from what I see, things look promising. They did put time and thought into the design of the website, really elegant and most importantly invest on their editorial spread which features proper stars and fashion icon. And unlikely fashion style star, comedian Jason Sudeikis is being featured and I have to say while I am not a big fan, I've noticed his beautiful mane for some time now. The pictures were beautifully shot and styled. Love, love, love the hair. Image via : Mr Porter

God must have spent...
