Is it Spring yet???

We have had a REALLY cold, REALLY snowy winter this year. It has pretty much snowed every week. At least once. Sometimes twice. And sometimes even three days a week! Daddy is afraid to look at the forecast any more!!!

In the meanwhile, we have had a great time playing "king of the snow hill,"
Helping Daddy shovel and move snow around,
Discovering what our backyard is like in winter, including using sticks to get all the snow off the tree trunks,

And discovering new toys--Ice!! Doesn't it look like W could cuddle up to this at night? This was right before he got kicked out of the house because his new "toy" wa dripping all over the floor!!
Dad has spent HOURS shoveling snow. He almost broke down and bought a snow blower. But he's hoping not to live here forever so he doesn't want to commit to owning one!!!
The groundhog saw his shadow--I guess winter isn't ending any time soon. But maybe that better. This snow is going to melt and all that water has to go somewhere! Hopefully it won't go in our basement...

Happy Valentines Day

It was I's first Valentine's Day! We're going to assume it's her new favorite holiday since she got to wear three different outfits and snuggle up to Daddy at night. Could a day get any better???

Mommy Takeover

B and I spent the morning looking through old blog posts. Such fun memories were recorded here! W is at school (or busy playing Legos, superheroes, and Xbox) so I'm taking over. Mommy Memories.

The Most Giant Donut Ever!

Dad had read an online review of best donut places in Chicago. There was one in particular that caught his eye...Dat Donut. Where the donuts are as big as your head!!!! Since little B and I were trying to sneak into Mom and Dad's bed every night, the parents decided it was a good time for a bribe!!! We slept in our own bed every night for week and then we had a family outing. So worth it! These donuts were fluffy, fresh, and delicious!!!!

Family Celebration!

The Sunday after my birthday we had a family party. Grammy and Papa were still in town, Uncle Billy, Cousins Jeremy and Lindsay, and Uncle Brian, Aunt Heather and kids all joined us for dinner, present opening, and cake.

We also celebrated Uncle Billy's birthday. An ant farm is a fair revenge for the butterflies, tadpoles, and mess making presents that he gives us, right?
Star Wars cake!!!!

The Jedi Academy

I decided that my birthday theme this year would be "Star Wars!" Mom had a busy week of Grammy/Papa visit, Girls Camp, and my party. So she combined everything and created a sweatshop where Grammy and Papa were put to work! They were in charge of making light sabers and Jedi Vests.
We started the party with Star Wars Bingo. Then we each received a tatoo and a light saber!
We were officially Jedis-in-Training. Our first task was to use the light saber to keep the balloons in the air.
Then we had to go through a Jedi training course. Under the table, over the chairs...
  And through the hot lava!
Then we went outside where we played, "What time is it Darth Vader?"

Each round ended in a good light saber training battle!

Even little B got to be Darth Vader. Scariest villian I've ever seen!!!
 I'm officially a Jedi!!!
The graduating class of Jedis. May the Force be with us!
And what a feast the new Jedis enjoyed! Cake and ice cream!
Happy Birthday to ME! FIVE is GREAT!!!

The Crab Shack

For months before my birthday, I asked, begged, and pleaded for a pet. Mom agreed that it was probably time for SOMETHING. Dad was VERY resistant. I started out asking for cat. That was shot down immediately. As was a dog, bunny, guinea pig, and hamster. I saw my parents start to waiver when I mentioned a turtle. Dad countered with a hermit crab. I was ADAMENT that I needed the turtle.
During the week leading up to my birthday, Mom took us to a pet store to look around. We found out that you have to be 12 to have a turtle. So Dad won and we went as a family to get our first pet. Mom and Dad imagined a little fishbowl with a little hermit crab inside. Ha!
In talking to the salesman (he TOTALLY saw Dad coming!), we found out that hermit crabs don't like to live at alone. You need to buy at least 3 to start with. (Dad was okay with this...they were only 5 dollars each.) And then we found out that one can't keep them in a little bowl, you have you to have an aquarium with a lid that will help keep the environment warm and humid.  And the list just went on from there...substrate, food, food dishes, water treatment drops, toys.
After only an hour and $100, we headed home to set up our new pets!

Someone trusted Little B to hold the temporary home. Good thing he's cute...
The finished product. We have found that they are fascinating creatures. We have spent hours in front of the cage observing them. Definitely a good choice for a first pet!

Welcome to the family, Patrick, Max, and Spencer. We'll see how long we can keep them alive. We think of this as our pet experiment!
