February information

Hey Club, I just wanted to post the information we covered this week at club.

So first off, the Sr. Citizen dance is today! (Feb 7th) and I hope to see you all there! But more importantly is the PSO card fundraiser.

The PSO fundraiser is key to us keeping our club around for another year. So those of you who volunteer to sell the card, THANK YOU!!!! I need to submit our cards by the 16th. Which is Presidents day, a day we have no school.... So I would love to have them by 13th/14th. You can find me every morning in the Upper rotunda, and I have an alternating lunch, (A-day I have 2nd lunch, and B-days I have 1st lunch) So you can find me then too (I typlicly eat in the Commans).

Speaking of V-day, there is going to be a HUGE dance at the Tigard Ballroom (8900 SW Commercial St. Tigard, OR) There is going to be a live band for the Swing Dance for only 8 dallors with your Student ID. And there are also two other dance (Christian/Country and Ballroom/West Coast/Latin) which you can also attened. The other dances cost an extra $4. It is going be crazy! You can also turn in your PSO stuff to me then too.

Well, that is what is happening, and I hope you guys can come to the dances, and sell those PSO cards!

New year plans

Hey guys, first post of 2009! But we have bigger fish to fry then the new year. The annual bake off is this week, Jan 22! It will be a great way to end the semester, since we will not be having club on the 29 since it's finals week, and it's also a half-day. (yes the 29th is a half day, you can check a copy of the finals schedule from here)

In other news the senior citizen dance is Feb 7th from One pm to Three pm. The dance is free, and in the school cafeteria. There will be food, and music...by who, I don't know... So keep checking the blog, and the event page on facebook. Since I will be updating those with information, as I get it.

So a few basic rules for the dance.
1. Ask the seniors to dance (I mean you leads!)
2. Dress nicely. (boys: slacks and button down shirts; girls: skirt&blouse/dress) (dress like your visiting your uptight grandmother on Christmas)
3. No dancing and ditching (leads walk your follow back to her chair.)

We'll cover these rules and basics of social dancing during club until the dance. I would like all of you to come to at least one social dance before the senior citizen dance. Now I could give you a ride, and if money is an issue I can arrange for you to come for a lower rate then $6 dollars.

Well, That's all for now folks

Dance Canceled Dec 20-21

Hey Swing Club, the great dances I told you about this weekend, have been canceled due to the crazy amounts of snow on the ground, and the forecast for freezing rain and more snow tonight and tomorrow. So I hoping the weather will get better for next weekend, and hopefully, I will see you all there.

~Micah (president)

PS. Here is the message Larry (stumptown dance owner) sent out today.
I am deeply sorry inform you all that we will need to cancel our swing dance tonight in Tigard. We also need to cancel tomorrow's Christmas dance at the Scottish Rite. The weather is just too treacherous. Five-plus inches of snow and freezing rain today...and more of the same tonight, tomorrow, and tomorrow night.

Stay warm and safe. Again, I apologize. I really wish we could be dancing together this weekend. I am planning a "Snow Day" as a make-up dance for all the dancing we'll be missing this snowy season.

Blessings,
Larry Peacock

Update

Due to the lack of school, and the up coming weather forecast of MORE SNOW Wed. night, I thought I would give you guys an update about the bake off.

If there is no school Thursday, which would mean no Swing Club, then the bake off will be pushed back until January. So sorry guys! I don't know if Ashely will still be in town then, so I will have an update about that by the end of the week.

So, key point- check the school closer info before you bake this week!

opps...

Sorry guys...I am way behind on updating this.....
Well, you should know what has happened. Mostly we have been covering the basics. What I really can't remember...homework does that to your brain...

But BIG NEWS GUYS! New week is going to be killer! First off, it is going to be our bake off, and anyone can enter! But their are a few rules.
-First off, bake enough so that everyone can have some (including Mr. Savage!)
-Secondly make something that easy to serve, such as cupcakes instead of cake.
-Thirdly What ever you make does not have to be make from sketch, but nothing that is made by someone else. So you can buy a cake mix, but YOU need to make the mix yourself, and try and make something special out of it.
- Also, please don't invite your friend to club to try you baked goods, it's a club thing, we don't want any moochers. If you really want to give some to your friend, you can, just not a club please.

Also next week we will have a Guest teacher! Ashely Bates is returning to Swing club for next week, and will be showing us some killer moves she learned out in ID. So this should be a blast! (She was VP last year, and left us to go to college)

There are also going to be some killer dances over break. First off there will be Swing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday!
-Friday Night Dances are held at Lenora's Room in Portland. (615 SE Alder Top floor) Cost $6 with your Student ID. A lesson is held from 7:30-8:30 free with Admission, and the dance last till Midnight!
-Saturday Night Dance is held right here in Tigard! (
Ballroom Dance Company, 8900 SW Commercial St) This dance also costs only $6 w/ your student ID. There is a lesson each week, from 7:30 to 8:30, and the dance ends at midnight.
-Sunday Night Dance is held at the Scottish Rite in Portland (SW 15th and Morrison)

Also, over break the Scottish Rite will be hosting two formal Swing dances with live bands!
-First, Dec. 21 at the Rite will be hosting a Christmas Formal. The lesson starts a 7 and the dancing starts at 8 you can buy your tickets before hand at any Stumptown dance (which these all are) Students are only $9! (or at the door but it costs $12)

-Second killer dance is the New Years Eve dance (on New years eve), this is a black and white formal dance! Also at the Rite, the lession for this dance starts at 8, and the dance starts at 9, and last till midnight. Advanced tickets for this dance are $12 with your id, and $15 at the door.

Well, I think that is all. You guys should come and check out the dances. If I can get enough intrest, I might be able to get you guys in for free as a group! So come and try out the dance over break!

Well, that's all for now
~Micah
