Christmas Program

The girls had Christmas programs at school this week. The girls go to a Lutheran school hence the alter in the back ground in case any of you are wondering. I love their teachers and the people in the church are so nice. They put on such a nice Christmas program. I will miss it next year when Marin goes to the public school. The last day is all about singing, a party for the parents, and a gift exchange for the children in the school.

Marin is such a nice singer, I mean this in the sense that she loves to sing, I am not sure who well she sings, but that's not point. Sammy on the other hand did sing Away in a Manger, and then decided that was enough and rang her little jingle bell for the rest of her program. I got to go two days, lucky me, one day for Sam for the Tuesday, Thursday classes and once for Marin for the Monday, Wednesday, Friday classes. Since I am really over baking in my kitchen this season :) I brought a few left over cookies from the primary activity for my goodies. I love this program and look forward to it every year. When I look back on Christmas this will be a very special memory.

Primary Activity

On Wedesday I had all the primary children to my house for an activity. We decorated cookies that the activities days girls baked the day before. They had such a good time. Who doesn't like to decorate cookies around the holidays? I was a little overwhelmed after the activites days girls left my home the Tuesday before because I realized that the fifty cookies they had just made were really for the youth to take around on Wedesday night to familys in the ward and they were not going to be any cookies for the children to eat. Okay, well we know right there that wont work so I turned around with the help of Sammy and made cookies for the children to decorate and eat. Lucky me I had punch left over from Sammy's birthday party and a few other goodies.

The kids had a great time and we told them to bring their snow cloths so we could build snowmen outside, but it was too cold for snowmen and not quite enough snow. But hey when you have 20 kids and there is snow on the ground they enjoyed playing with each other just as much! All that mattered was when they went home they had eaten cookies, played in the snow, and had fun with each other!

Sammy-Doo Sammy-Doo!!

(Samantha at ballet on her birthday)

Samantha Winnie turn four on the third this month. We had a birthday party for her today, which we, well I, have been planing for a few weeks. With the craziness of the holidays I didn't fit it in until this week. It was so much fun. She helped me bake over 100 sugar cookies yesterday and then clean the kitchen only to turn right around and make 50 cup cakes. She refused to go to school and I can not say that I blamed her . . . SO I let her stay home with mommy.

Last night we wrapped all of the goodie bags into little packages for her guest and today we made a Christmas tree cupcake cake that turned out darling.

We ran to the store this morning and got a few balloons and came home for Ben to take a nap and to finish cleaning the house. I needed to make the Rudolf for the game and Sammy sat by me for an entire hour telling me who much she loved me and that I was such a good mommy.

I know she was a little tired tonight, but she was so excited all day. Even Marin reminded her first thing this morning that her party was tonight. Everyone had a great time and although it was a lot of work on my part I was so glad I did it. I realize that birthdays are not big to some people, but I have very fond memories of my birthday's as a child. My mother's parents where in the amusement park business . . . need I say more. My birthdays were full of rides, food, and arcade games. I realize we are all different and that wont be my children's memories, but I do go extra out of my way to go the extra mile for them on their birthdays. Here is a vute picture of Sammy-Doo at her party and four of the best reasons I love my Sammy.

1. Samantha will always share, even when she says she wont, she will.
2. Samantha has started making Ben call her mama, she loves it. Her and Ben have a special relationship, if Ben gets in trouble he goes right to Sam for hugs and loves.

3. Samantha is a Fancy Nancy. She loves, that is an understatement, to dress-up and play princess. Samantha usually wears at least two dresses, one right over the top of the other. I stopped arguing with her about it and just except it as Samantha now.

4. Samantha loves to help me make dinner. She will go get the stool and will mix that eggs and spread the cheese. She loves to cook and I have no doubt will inherit her love of cooking from her mommy.

*She told me tonight that I "put on such a great party". OH, I love you! I did it all for you Sammy-DOO!*

Christmas, Christmas, Christmas!

Right now there is so much Christmas going on at our house I think the house might be made of ginger bread and it's so sugary sweet you might get diabetes! Yes and I haven't even been Christmas shopping this week. We started off by making a ginger bread house last Thursday night,

AFTER I had made 11 batches of my grandmothers toffee in the morning. Friday, I made another 16 batches while we put Samantha in charge of watching baby Jake (Jake's mommy and daddy know how to enjoy Christmas, they went skiing),

Saturday I worked on my Christmas cards, ran to Wal-mart and bought Christmas church shoes for my children (which come Sunday morning I will realize that Ben's Christmas shoes are both right footed shoes and neither are the same same size! OH!), Sunday the primary chorister and I were the only ones there so I had my hands full of Christmas songs wrapped up with a Christmas tree sharing time. Monday, we baked ginger bread cookies for family night and took them to friends houses, but not before we had to stop at every home that had Christmas lights,

and Tuesday was another 10 batches of my grandmothers toffee with the help of my friend Amanda (Thanks Amanda, it wouldn't have happened with out you baby!) and an entire day of wrapping the 36 batches of candy into baskets that Steven will give out to his larger clients. (I couldn't help my self, here is the finished project.)

Wednesday I need to reclaim my kitchen after the sugar, butter, and raffia mess that was created by the baskets, Thursday night I have our Enrichment Christmas dinner, Friday I have Samantha's Christmas Birthday party, full of more cookie decorating, presents that are not even for Christmas and last but not least a pin the nose on Rudolf game. Saturday I need to go Christmas shopping and Saturday night is our ward Christmas party for which Marin has been memorizing, "Christmas in the Manger," to recite at the talent portion of the party. I think I have heard her recite this book more than four times a day for the last two weeks. There is Christmas everywhere! And I am not even sure when my cards will hit the post office!

Thanks and Giving

Thanksgiving weekend we took off to Utah and had so much fun with our family and friends. We didn't get in until Wednesday. I took the kids over to see my grandmother who is a little sick. She loved seeing them and especially loved, Hello Mr. Turkey how are you? song that the kids sand to her. I then took them over to the Dinosaur Museum where they didn't last as long as I thought they would, but they still had a good time.

Thursday I got up and made 4 dozen rolls, one pumpkin cobbler, and a giant green bean casserole. I don't know how one person could cook that meal all by themselves, hopefully I wont ever have to find out!! But we had sooo much fun with Steven's family. I am not sure how many there were of us, but too many to count. We had such a good time with everyone.

On black Friday I got at 3:30 and made it in time to Sam's to snatch a few goodies while my brother and sister in-law radded JCpenny for me. I hit Tai Pan, Toys R Us, Cabelas', Old Navy, Gap, Einstein Brothers for a snack, and then it was home again home again! My blessed mother in-law watched my children and I ran home in time for my mother's Thanksgiving dinner with my family!

Grandpa Simons

Grandpa Enos Latimer Simons died on Nov. 2, 2008, this was Steven's grandfather. He died an expected death, but sad all the same to see a good man of God pass away. Enos was the father of five children, a husband, a patriarch, a bio chemist, a scout leader, and a great grandfather many times over. Steven and Benjamin both carry his middle name as their own. I only met him a handful of times, but as Steven jokingly put it, "Grandpa Simons loves you and likes me." Which I found very untrue. I will always remember him sending Ben blankets, a cowboy chaps, and a few other things so that my little boy could remember his great-grandfather. It should have been a sad day, but for me I saw it through a different light. I brought my camera that day and snapped a few pictures of the family and the legacy he left behind. I don't know how we could even be sad at his departing. If you don't believe him take a look at all of the people who grandpa Simons loved and who loved him.

Peaches & Cream and TMJ

This month is TMJ awareness month. I am sure you are asking yourself, "What is TMJ? And why do I care?" Well, I am Ashlee Marie Simons and I have TMJ dysfunction. TMJ stands for TemporoMandibular Joint, or the jaw joint. You have two TMJs, one in front of each ear, connecting the lower jaw bone (the mandible) to the skull. The joints allow movement up and down, side to side, and forward and back—all the mobility necessary for biting, chewing and swallowing food, for speaking and for making facial expressions. These normal everyday things become painful and difficult when one is suffering from a bad episode of TJM. The body will heal itself basically through lock jaw for a few weeks or months.
Normally it does not affect my life other than the occasional achy jaw after a day of talking or eating too much. But after I have dental work done . . . watch out! Because I usually get a bad case. Right now I am going on three weeks of trying not to move my jaw. Yes, that is right, trying not to move my jaw. This wouldn't be a problem, you know, if I didn't have to eat and (since I don't know sign language) talk! My worst bout lasted for three months and I lost ten pounds many years ago.
I am extra impatient now a days deep in a three week episode of what is nothing less than a living hell. (I tend to swear more than my normal amount when I a suffering from TMJ. All it takes is for one of my children to climb over me a pop me in the jaw to send me to the other room for a sentence full of nasty language that I am certain is not appropriate for a mother of three, let alone a mother in Zion to use, but we all have our weaknesses and swearing happens to be mine. But it does put me over the edge I will well admit that.)
I asked my dentist the other day if we could just wire my jaw shut to get it to heal faster. I realize this is an extreme measure, but, so extreme is the problem. Am I a little frustrated? Agitated? Irritated? Oh yes, that sums me up right now.
But bringing us back to peaches and cream. I have five boxes of it in my house right now. I fixed tacos for the clan tonight and then sat down with my bowl of instant oatmeal, which, by the way, I had for breakfast too . . . for the past five days. I guess I will have to shop my way through Christmas, because as you can see, I will certainly not be eating much this holiday season. :)

1 down 2 to go!

Oh Halloween! I don't know whether to love it or hate it. I love the holidays, but it just seems like by the time we go to the pumpkin patch, pick out costumes(which is such the ordeal for my kids), have class parties, and the trunk or treat, and then finally! Halloween night where I am scrambling to carve pumpkins, I am not likin' Halloween much. My children usally like to be something I have to end up making. So, this year I was way ahead of the game and talked the girls into being princess that I found at Costco and then they found a dragon costume for Benny. But, Marin of course decided she wanted to be Barbie Island Princess and sugjested that "all I had to do was to make a peacock feathers for the back of her dress". So this year I still didn't get out of getting the sewing machine out. I did let Marin know that I was lucky I had the spirit of my Grandma Mary in me to make them what they wanted be. I hope she inherits this, because I told her when her daughter wants to be Flitter Flutter Butterfly Barbie I do expect her to rip out the sewing machine.

Samantha on the other had loved her Aurora costume and kept singing everytime she put it on, "bow to the princess Aurora." After a few days of that Marin turn around and yelled, "I am not bowing any more to you Sam."

All in all, I do love Halloween, it is so much fun for the kids and I do enjoy their excitment, but I am happy to be moving on the Thanksgiving this year!

High School Musical Three

So last night we took all of the kids to High School Musical Three. This wouldn't probably happen with most two year olds, but Ben loves High School Musical. So we went really just for him. I will have to say out of a 10 I will give him a 9.5. I never got up and he pretty much sat and watched the whole thing! I did want to pee my pants when he stood on top of his chair to dance and fell off getting his foot stuck in the chair on the way down.
The girls kept talking at a regular volume, which we had to explain why we whisper in movies. They loved the popcorn, the drinks, and chocolate. It really was a fun first family movie night. I think we will be going to the movies on Christmas day for Marly and Me.

(So humor me on this next one!)
After the movie later that night we were eating dinner and I said to Steven that I never really thought about leaving my Sr. year when I left for Germany. The prom, the year book, the school presidency, my heavens I was a cheerleader, and on the track team and I didn't really think about what I would miss. That movie for whatever reason made me feel like I had missed something. Something I had never thought about before.

P.S. Not that England, France, Belgium, Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, ditching school to go to the Netherlands and ten days on the Mediterranean in Spain weren't fun.:)

Little Man

I watched Ben the other morning walk in our bathroom. A few min. later I heard him crying so I went in. Poor Ben was trying to shave himself. Well he was off to a good start, a razor, shaving cream, and toilet paper. It was hard not to laugh.

Socialism at it's most expensive!

So last week we bought a new truck for our business. Steven went out the second morning to start it and it wouldn't start. They thought the battery was dead so they tried to charge it and after 45 min. of trying they gave up and took the old trucks up to Aspen. I called that morning more than a little frustrated that our brand new truck wasn't working. I got on the phone with the service manager, who promptly said I know what the problem is, I gave him the VIN number and he put me on hold. Well as it turns out the car was some how reported stolen and a satellite had disabled the car. Yes a satellite disabled the car! GMC had to come and get the car and reprogrammed it. I didn't know whether to laugh or be really annoyed!

Vote!

YES ON PROPOSITION 8 in California
You've been tagged. PLEASE READ THIS no matter what state you live in.

Failure to pass Proposition 8 will hurt children. If gay marriage remains legal, public schools will put it on equal footing with traditional marriage. Children will likely receive “age appropriate” information about sexual relations within heterosexual and homosexual marriages.
Failure to pass Proposition 8 will hurt churches. The court’s decision will inevitably lead to conflicts with religious liberty and free speech rights. Society will become more and more hostile to traditional beliefs about marriage and family. Over time, greater acceptance of nontraditional marriage will be demanded of all people. This could impact the ability of any religion to teach and practice its beliefs. Including adoption agencies.
A YES vote will not hurt gays. In California, the law provides for marriage-related benefits to be given to civil unions and domestic partnerships. Proposition 8 does not diminish these benefits.
For your information:
On Friday, October 10th, 2008 a first-grade class took a field trip to witness a lesbian wedding in California. Click Here for the article from the San Francisco Chronicle.
A father in Massachusetts was frustrated when his twin kindergartners were taught about homosexuality at school by the teachers. He insisted he be notified in the future before such things were discussed so he could pull his boys out of school. He was taken to jail. Click Here for the story.
A Catholic adoption agency In the UK closed their doors because of the Government's new homosexual equality laws. The Equality Act forbids discrimination in the provision of goods and services on the basis of sexual orientation. The law was forced through Parliament last year despite past Prime Minister Tony Blair's recommendation that Catholic adoption agencies be exempted from the rules. Click Here for more info.
Earlier this month judges in Conneticut overturned the state law (just as the judges in California did) to legalized gay marriage. This is not just an issue in California. We voted years ago to keep traditional marriage as the only marriage recognized in the state of California, 4 judges overturned our vote…and we need to fight back. That is what this Proposition is about. This is happening everywhere and the leaders of the church and others have warned that the outcome of California’s vote will affect the way the other states vote. So PLEASE…even if you don’t live in California, put this on your blog or email this on. The internet knows no state line. You know contacts in California that I don’t…and so do your friends. Please pass this on as it could eventually have an effect on everyone!
"Occasionally discouragement may darken our pathway; frustration may be a constant companion. In our ears there may sound the sophistry of Satan as he whispers, "You cannot save the world; your small efforts are meaningless. You haven't time to be concerned for others." Trusting in the Lord, let us turn our heads from such falsehoods and make certain our feet are firmly planted in the path of service and our hearts and souls dedicated to follow the example of the Lord." --Thomas S. Monson

Pumpkin Parade!

Someday this week, no I do not even remember the day. I took my children and Marin's friend Addy and her mother to the pumpkin patch. The kids where excited and picked out three of the largest pumpkins in the patch. (Being a smart mom, I only took $25 in cash to the patch knowing if that was what I took, that would be all I would spend!) They spent a good fifteen minutes finding the largest pumpkins they could. Then, after hauling my three little children and their three "great" pumpkins back up the hill we weighed them . . . 65lb of pumpkins came to $23.

They weren't going to have enough to go on the hay ride. Never in my life after explaining to my children did I think to see them so willing to exchange their pumpkins for smaller ones. Within a few minutes Marin and Sam had cute sensible pumpkins picked out and were helping Ben find one he could actually carry. After yet another weight in we safety had $13 worth of pumpkins and were on our way to the tractor pull. Oh what fun!!

You can take the girl out of California . . .

It's so true) but you can’t take California out of the girl. We (the kids and me) went down to visit my sister and her family in Cali. Steven always asks me why anyone would want to live here. Well if you grew of here you would understand. There is nothing like ward beach parties, beach camp outs, Jr. guards, pier jumping, need I mention nice weather all year around, and camp Hinkly for girls camp. I am totally willing to fly my girls down to California just for girls camp when they are old enough just to go to camp Hinkly. I know the freeway is a little daunting for some, but it is just so funny to go 90 mph and still have major traffic passing you. It's too fun!
Needless to say we had a great time! My sister blessed her new baby Blake and baptized her little boy Chance while we were there. The baby was a hit with everyone, even with Ben. They loved her. As you can see.

We did manage to go to the beach one day, which the kids loved! Although it wasn't long before Ben was wet from head to toe. We ate donuts on the top of the car and headed back to Leslie's.

I did make everyone rearrange their schedule so that I could go to Jcrew (by my self). I know the economy is in the pits, but I could probably single handed keep their stock growing. :) Got some supper cute stuff. :)

By far Ben favorite part of the trip was the skiter my sisters children have. He loved that thing. And for two got very good with it!! Only one time did he crash? If we didn't know where Ben was, we knew he was out in the front riding the skiter. Well, I wonder what he is going to get for Christmas?

Another entertainment was the airport. I think the OC airport was a great hit. We sat here for an hour and half with no complaints.
