Well I didn't get influenza . . .

I got something much worse. I had an anphlyaxis reaction to something. I had a horrible allergic reaction!! Last week I went to the pool on Tuesday. I had gone the week before and got a little sunburned as I missed some spots so I really made sure I cover up well with sunscreen that Tuesday. Well Wednesday afternoon I noticed that I was a little itchy, but nothing too bad. When I went to take a shower that night I noticed I had a pretty good rash around my torso, but just thought I had probably spent a little too much time in the sun. Thursday my rash was worse. At this point it was actually really bad. But again I just thought I spent too much time in the sun and it was my own fault. I went to visit my friend Jen in the hospital after having her baby and my other good friend, Autumn, was her nurse and noticed the rash on my arms. She said, "Ashlee that looks bad, you should have that looked at." Well Autumn is not the over reactive type so I thought she was probably right and was going to make an appointment with my family care doctor the next morning. That night I took a cool shower and the rash was pretty bad. I woke up in the middle of the night and my lips where swollen. I knew that wasn't good and took some allergy medicine. The next morning I called and made my appointment with my doctor, but he couldn't see me until 1:30. I went and ate breakfast and noticed I was definitely having difficulty swallowing. Well about that time my friend Steph called me and told me she me would drive me to my appointment because she knew I wasn't well. I was glad because I didn't think I could drive I was a little dizzy. At 11:30 I went to take a lie down on my bed and as I laid down I noticed my tongue start to tingle. Well I knew that was not good. The rash was all over my body, I looked like a leaper. I was having trouble thinking clearly. I knew then it was over and it was time to go to the hospital. I pick up my phone and I called Steph back and said I needed to go to the ER (I really don't know who I would have called if it weren't for Steph. She was over at my house in less then 10 and drove me over to Valley View Hospital. At this point I was pretty bad the rash was all over my face, I was having a hard time breathing, I was hot and my tongue felt double it's size. I walked in the ER door and the receptionist took one look at me and picked up the phone and the Doctor and the nurse were up front grabing me taking me to the back asking what had happened. I told them I thought I was having an allergic reaction to something but I didn't know what. I couldn't remember my date of birth, how old I was, I just couldn't think straight. Within a few minutes I got the EpiPen and had an IV with some serious antihistamines in them. Within a few hours I was feeling much better. Steven came down from his job site and got me from the hospital. I came home to dinner made for me by Steph, why is life just so much better when you have dinner made for you??? (I don't know but it is, Thanks Steph!!!) Saturday my rash came back accompanied by some serious cramping in my stomach so I called the doctor at the ER and he called me in a better prescription and said all my crapping in my stomach was normal because I was swollen inside my GI tract too. I am still having a little bit of a hard time eating, but my rash is now just mind numbing welts all over my body. I was told by the ER doctor and a very reliable source to go see a allergist or I am an idiot (thanks Heather, love ya) because next time it could kill me.

I am just so grateful for modern medicine. I sometimes don't understand when people say there are no miracles anymore. Because let me tell you the EpiPen is a miracle that pretty much saved my life.

This is what my rash looked like Thursday night.

This is exactly what I say when I looked in the mirror after noticing my tounge had starting to swell and when I walked into the hospital.

And welcome to day two of the mind nummbing welts.

(I wish I would have looked up this web site sooner, because I would have known just by looking at these pictures this is what I had!!!)

It's not enough . . .

If you think you have enough medicine in your house for your children . . .
IT'S NOT ENOUGH!!!!

So as of May 31 we at the Simon's house have had influenza. Influenza-high temperature, body ache, headache, and completely lethargic. Well to be exact Ben had it for the first week of June, Marin the second week of June. Samantha the third week of June lingering into the fourth, and Steven came home today with a headache, chills, and a fever. If by the way we have been to anyone's house during the aboved mention dates, sorry. No it's not good around here. Not to mention that everyone symptoms have lasted for at least FIVE days! Yes that is right five days Sammy a full six. I took her to the doctor where they confirmed what I already knew that we were suffering form an epidemic of influenza. The doctor told me if she didn't test positive for it that she was going to send us over to the hospital for some more test, aka she was going to test us for the Swine Flu. But needless to say it's just influenza . . . which by the way two of my children have gone to the hospital for in the last four years, so I always make sure we get the shot. Well it didn't stop us from getting it, but I can say no one needed to go to the hospital, which is success! And at this point in my life I say go ahead, get a fever or a sniffle cold and get up five times in the night that's fine, BUT PLEASE, PLEASE DON'T THROW-UP ON ME!!! Anything but throw up! A couple of years ago we had the throw-up flu more times in the winter than I can even remember, it was like we had the flu ten different times that winter. Ever since then I see the good in an illness that no one needs a bowl or the toilet to over come it.

But back to my original point. What do you think an entire year of supple Children's Motrin and Children's Tylenol, Children's Motrin Cold would be. One or two bottles each per child??? That was my guess and I believe in drugs. Ya, well it's not enough. Three children of vary weights, five days of fever and body aches equals 3 bottles of Tylenol, 4 bottles of Motrin, and one bottle of Children's Motrin Cold because that was all that was left by the time I was done that contained a children's pain killer. And when I took Sammy to the doctor she looked at me and said I needed to be more on top of her pain EVERY four hours she need Tylenol alternating with Motrin. So rethink that medicine cabinet!! Here is what mine looks like, this is the restock after being sick this month and I now know I need more.

P.S. Pray that it doesn't get me!!

Utah Trip

We actually took a trip to Utah the other week. My mother came for Samantha's recital and took the girls home for a few days until I came out and got them. It so nice to just have Ben for a few days. Ben was running a fever at night but seemed fine during the day so we left on Tuesday morning. It wasn't a pleasure trip . . . it was just me and the kids and I had a list of thing I had to get done in a short amount of time.

Tuesday Afternoon we went over to Aunt Kiley's and played

Tuesday Night I went to Macey's in search of cheap grocery's at their summer case lot sale

Wednesday Early Morning I had to go back to Macey's to get some great buys that didn't go on sale until in the morning

Wednesday Morning we all went to the dentist

Wednesday Afternoon Aunt Stacy came down and we played with her during the day

Thursday we went to the Zoo

Thursday Late Afternoon after the Zoo I had to drive to downtown Salt Lake and find our supplier's warehouse to grab a spa cover and other oddities for Steven. Oh that was fun.

Thursday Evening I dropped my kids off at my parents and went and met with my accountant for an hour.

Thursday Night I went to Costco to get Morning Moo for a GOOD friend (WHERE I saw President Bates!!!! Shook his hand and he asked how I was doing!!! (If you don't know who President Bates is . . . then you are just SOL.) When I came home I heard that Marin had hide from my mother for over 45 min. and caused her to cry and almost call the police. Needless to say Marin was in big trouble and I knew I couldn't leave them the rest of the trip.
Friday we went to Cabala's to get a seat cover for one of the work trucks. Then we went and played with Aunt Stacy again and she kindly watched my children while I went to Tia Pan (I tried to be good there knowing I was going to Leslie's the next weekend and wanted to save my green for JCREW, yes that post will come.)
Friday Night I went to the temple while my mother-in-law watched the kids. (I hadn't been so long I am embarrassed to tell you my friends.)
Saturday Morning cousin Chloe was baptised and confirmed.

We left for home straight from the baptism! I was so tired I had to stop and get a Red Bull to even make the five hour trip home.

Sammy-Do Sammy-Do

Sammy had her recital last weekend. She was so excited. She even invited her grandma! She kept telling Marin that if she was not good she was not coming to her talent show. She asked for cup cakes and presents. I told her it wasn't a birthday party, but if she wanted cup cakes I would do that for her for after her recital. She had a great dress rehearsal! And we were all so excited for her. She wanted her hair done THIS way, which for me took 45 mins. to do, but she really didn't complain so I spent the time doing her hair the way she want it.

In the end I thought it turned out good for my hair skills. She looked great and grandma arrived and off we went . . . to a recital Samantha wouldn't dance in.

Yep, she just stood on the side. But I was reminded by my mother and Steven that she was only four and just got scared. It was a little disappointing, but forgotten by the time I got home and Samantha was talking about how wonderful she did while chowing down a cup cake I had to let it go. Oh well, she did look great!! I can't wait for her pictures to come back I know she will really love them. I was just disappointed that we didn't get to see it. Sam had a hard time with school this year, but she didn't want to give up ballet, although I know it was hard for her to go each week and asked her many times if she just didn't want to go anymore. I finally stopped asking and just helped her work through me leaving for the hour. I know it is something she loves and looks forward to each week!

Here she is at the dress rehearsal. She did great and we were all so glad we went and say you Sammy-Do!!!
