I have a confession... I may have gone a little overboard for my 2 year old's birthday party... BUT! I just felt this deep desire to celebrate Zoey this year. Last year we had a quiet celebration for Zoey's 1st birthday and it was fine... I had a lot on my mind with her upcoming surgery and I didn't quite feel like myself. But this year... well, things have gone so well this past year with Zoey. I'm so pleased with the outcome of her surgical repair and the progress of her speech, etc. She's so dang cute and I felt like we needed a party to celebrate her! Plus, I had an idea... she ADORES dogs and puppies... squeals with delight at the chance to be around one. So, we had a puppy party! I knew of a company that comes to your house to let you play with their puppies so I got busy with all the party preprations.
First up... invites! I designed this digital invitation and thanks to Cassaundra for taking this precious picture of Zoey. It was perfect!
Puppy paw prints leading up to the entrance of the party...
It's not a party without balloons!
Welcome sign...
I begged Cory to let us keep these white posts from my birthday party last summer... I knew they would come in handy again (they're just a pain to store). I made a paper chain in her party colors.
I made this birthday banner and for treats we served flavored popcorn, chex mix and peanut butter filled pretzels in dog bowls.
There's some dang cute cupcake ideas out there... but this one was too cute and simple to pass up. My new friend, Rachael, whipped me up some salted buttercream frosting (my absolute favorite!) for the chocolate cupcakes and the paws are all made out of chocolate candies...
Before the party started, the puppies took a potty and water break... Zoey could hardly wait to get in there with them...
The puppies were a little hyper at first, but I was so proud of Zoey... she was never frightened and followed directions by sitting on her bottom and just let the puppies come up to her. The first one came up to her and licked her face and then ran away. Zoey wasn't sure about all the licking, so she pushed the 2nd puppy away.
But then she really warmed up to it all...
Then, everytime I looked over at her, she had a puppy in her arms...
It was too cute!
I don't know who had more fun... me or her?
I took lots of pictures...
They were all so cute...
I couldn't decide which pictures to post here...
So, I posted them all!
But, aren't they adorable!?
I think everyone had a good time. We had almost 20 friends over!
And 10 puppies...
Maggie and cousin Ryan
Cousin Laura... I thought this picture was too cute with her holding both puppies and the one licking her face!
Grant found a buddy... guess we'll have to get a dog someday?
I think everyone found a friend!
I love this picture... his mom pointed out that these two became great buds cause they both have the same kind of hair... red and "brillo-y"...
The puppies were so cute and loving. I was actually surprised at how calm they were with all those kids!
My cousins, Raquel and Becca, came to help out at the party... they decorated the kids faces like dogs...
I love this picture of Zoey giving this puppy a kiss...
By the end of the hour, a lot of the puppies were falling asleep in whoever's arms were holding them.... like this one on Becca's lap!
Most of the kids got their faces painted and received a pair of doggy ears...
I had Maggie hide doggie bones in this sand box for an alternative activity...
Everyone sang Happy Birthday to Zoey...
And then we enjoyed our cupcakes and chocolate chip "dalmation" ice cream or Neapolitan ice cream...
Everyone went home with a doggie bag full of puppy goodies...
I know it was a lot of pictures, but seriously... which ones could of I cut out? I was so pleased with how it all turned out, everything went perfectly and it was so much fun! It was a dream come true for Zoey! Thanks to my aunt Jana, who gave me a lot of good ideas for this party... she has a few puppy parties under her belt. Thanks to my wonderful cousins for coming to help out and thanks to all our friends for joining our celebration!
