ADDIE IS HERE!!!

Girl #2 finally made it here.  We have been waiting for Addie Jane for quite a while and now we're just grateful that she made it here safe and sound.  With very little trauma to me.  I had been having contractions on and off for a couple of days, even some in the temple (yikes!) and was starting to get a little impatient as my due date got closer.  I was due on the first, but on Thursday night 6/27, I started having some pretty good contractions.  So, around 10-11pm I hopped in a warm bath and that mellowed them out a bit.  So Jason and I decided to go to be around midnight thinking not much was going to happen.

No sooner had Jason started snoring that I had a pretty painful contraction as I was lying in bed.  I just breathed through it and tried to fall asleep again.  Well, the painful contractions kept coming, but about 15 mins apart, so I just kinda rested in between.  By about 2am I figured I better wake up Jason and 45 mins later we decided to call his mom who was on duty.  By the time Grandma got to the house, around 3:30am, I was feeling like we better get going.  Susan watched me have a contraction and said to get going.  She could tell.  The 10 min drive to the hospital I had 3 contractions, and 4 more just walking in from the car up to the maternity ward.  The nurses looked at me and I had another contraction right there. They asked if I wanted an epidural, and I said no, and they kindly said "good, because you're not going to have time to get one."  I could hear them taking bets on how far along I was while I was changing.  I just kept thinking please let me be at least 5 cm. They checked and I was at a 7!  Woo hoo!  I could tell I was heading in to transition.  Soon, Dr. Lewis got there and I was ready to push.  I tried pushing in a weird position, but Addie was stuck on my pubic bone. The nurses had me roll over to my side, and then things got much easier.  Addie was born two contractions later 5:02am.   She really was one of my easiest deliveries!  I made a mistake and decided to have some IV drugs after the delivery that made me very light headed and sleepy, but other than that it was great!
 Before (obviously in between contractions)

After

 Addie Jane 7lbs. 7oz. 19in. 5:02am

I hope Addie knows what she was getting herself into!
I'm sure she'll be making funny faces with them in no time!

Kimball's pretty happy to finally have a sister!

And I was pretty happy to spend 2 of the hotest days in the cool hospital!

Our First Graduate - Kindergarten That Is

Yep, Kimball passed with flying colors.  Okay, maybe not the biggest challenge, but she had a great year learning most of her sight words and her numbers and how to be a good student overall.  On her report card, her teacher mentioned that Kimball avoids the drama that happens.  I'm so proud of this little girl and thankful for her drama avoiding personality.  She sure is the best kid that I could've hoped to be the oldest in our family!

Just looking cute getting ready to sing some songs for us (which I may or may not have teared up a little while they sang).

Class of 2025?  Seriously?

Kimball just adored Mrs. Orr!  We were so thankful to have her as Kimball's teacher.  I got to volunteer a few times and watch her with her class and she was amazing!

And, this is what I found in my closet after my shower the other day.

Kimball and Jack in dirty clothes basket and Danny and Tod making sure the bassinet is ready for Addie.

Guess who's 2?

This kid!  Yes, Danny made it to 2 years on this earth.  He has definitely kept me and his older brothers ans sister on their toes this last year, as he has learned how to get into everything they have and want to play with them.  He does a great job keeping up with them.  He is also a very smiley kid.  He knows he's pretty dang cute and uses that trait to his advantage.  If I try and get stern with him, he tries to just smile at me to see if that will get him out of trouble.  I'll be honest, sometimes it does work :)
Here's his morning line up of toys and balloons (at Nana's house this year).

Classic pic of morning birthdays gone array.  I think he was not quite awake yet and someone probably "borrowed" one of his balloons or new toys.

How far he's come in the last 2 years.  I couldn't believe this ginormous baby was our new son.  We're lucky to have him and I'm looking forward to many more years of his entertaining personality!

Humbling Moments

So every once in a while I have what I call a "blah day."  It's starts and ends with no motivation to get anything done, and I'm usually a little more quick to get frustrated with my kiddos and snap at them for the little things that kids do.  Needless to say, I was having a "blah day" and had barely made it until Jason got home from work and through dinner.  The kids asked for a treat, so I was more than ready to hand them a popsicle/otterpop and send them outside.  As I was doing the dishes (I actually like doing dishes)  This is the view I had out my back door -
My heart melted a little bit as I watched my four beautiful kiddos sit together on this bench enjoying their treat.  I have to confess that I did say a little prayer apologizing to the Lord for my weaknesses of the day and thanked Him wholeheartedly for these four spirits (and one more little spirit to come) of His that I'm blessed to raise here on earth. It's amazing how quick my whole attitude of the day completely changed and that in this small little moment my perspective changed from my "blah day" to one that encompassed eternity.  I am so blessed to get to be a part of their lives and am grateful and humbled that the Lord trusts me enough to help be responsible for them.

Then I got closer and these are some of their faces.

And some more random pictures of the kids while we're patiently waiting for  summer time and
Addie Jane to get here.
Jason managed to get one or two pictures of his boys at Father and Sons camp out with the ward.

And Jack, having some deep thought dreams.

Danny, my official "foodie" this is his favorite spot so he can always see if there's something new to eat.

Jack and Kimball enjoying block time, and Jack building one of his new castles.

Who goes to Missouri for 10 days? We do!

I feel like I have to explain why in the world a family would plan a trip to Ft. Leonard Wood (aka Ft. Lost in the Woods) Missouri for 10 whole days.  This is how it happened in a nutshell, well, a big nutshell!

I having one of the almost daily calls with my little sister Sam, who lives on an army base in the middle of nowhere Missouri and I heard some music playing in the background.  She explained that they have music blaring on loud speakers (the same loud speakers also used for tornado sirens) at certain parts of the day - like wake-up, lunch, dinner, bed-time. I was amazed.  Then she also explained at the 5pm music, the whole base pauses. If you're outside, you stop whatever you're doing (even driving) and stand at attention if you're a soldier (f you're in uniform I think you have to salute) or hand over your heart for civilians.  I had no idea about this part of military base living.  From there, our conversation turned into "Mandy, you would love it, you need to come out and see what it's like living on the base."  Well, she thinks she appealed to my very patriotic side, but really she appealed to my even stronger family side, because my brother and his family live on her same street - but the base was definitely an added bonus though.

Sam started looking up flights, I asked Jason what he thought, and he is ALWAYS game for a new adventure, and the rest is history.  We found some very cheap flights and off we went a month later.  Thank goodness Sam's house was a duplex, that had been converted to a single family house (nice to be an officer) so there was plenty of room for our "little" family of almost 7.
This is how this trip all started.  Here's the 5pm call to attention. Jack and Ashton saluting (Jack was working on his balance too).  My brother Ben is doing his soldierly duty.  I must admit, it is pretty cool to see everyone do this.  Definitely makes me proud of our soldiers, especially my family members who do this!

Kimball and Ashton were very happy to have each other to play with.

One of the first days there, we all went to a park that had some of these evergreen trees.  They are a climbers delight and off went Kimball, Ashton, and Jack to see who could get the highest.  I think Ashton may have won.

Cousins bonding.  James and Danny are just a month or two apart.

Jet lag, or maybe just lots of fresh air!

Kimball and Kate enjoying a sandy beach down by a river and building a beautiful castle.

This pic of Danny just explains what I did this whole trip.  My sister Sam and her husband David fed us very well (cinnamon rolls, chicken piccata, pulgogi meat and lots more)!  And then, my brother Ben and his wife Emily definitely added to the food intake with birthday parties (with the most delicious cream filled cup-cakes) and a night out to a delicious restaurant.  Thanks to all that added to my pregnancy weight gain!!!

On post there is a Army Engineer museum and this was one of the cool statues outside, with the cousins.

A portion of the Berlin Wall.  My kids have no idea what it is, even for me it's a vague memory.  But they'll learn about it in history books and will be able to say they've touched it.

Cousins playing at Ben and Emily's.  My kids couldn't believe the yards with no fences.  I was lucky not to lose any of my kids to the woods.

I guess lack of sleep made church the ideal place for Jack and Tod to crash.

These two just being silly.

Bowling on base!  Jack loved it.

This is a "proof picture."  To prove that yes, I was actually there too.  Pregnant belly and all.

Kimball had a great time too.

Danny enjoyed the arcade more than bowling.

Ashton and Jack looking like they're up to no good!

Danny and Mallie enjoying the toys.

Proof pictures so I can say they've actually been on an airplane.

Danny did great running between Jason and I's seats.

Kimball loved the treats for the plane ride.

"We get to ride a train too?"  We love the LAS airport.

And finally, one last adventure climbing on the turtle before we go find grandpa to give us a ride home.

It was an amazing 10 days with my sister and her fam, and my brother and his fam.  We had so much fun playing games at night, eating way more than we should have, going to Sandy Hollow, swimming, bowling, and just lounging and cooking.  One of the best vacations/adventures we've taken.  It's always very fun to watch my kids play with their cousins and build those relationships, and for me to enjoy the late night chats with my family!  Thanks for having us!  Hope it's not too long before we can do it again.

Easter Weekend Starts the Craziness

Easter was the start of a fun and busy couple of weeks for our family.  We started off at my parents house for Easter Weekend.  I drove up by myself (which is a miracle) and Jason joined us for the weekend and the drive home. On Sunday, we made it to early sacrament and then came home and had an Easter Egg Hunt in my parents backyard before we had to get on the road and head back to Las Vegas.  Kimball noticed that there weren't any eggs yet, and told her that the bunny was on his way and that maybe she could catch him. The "bunny" hurried and hid eggs as the kiddos quickly changed out of church clothes. Kimball was so bummed because she just missed the bunny.

Danny didn't care who hid what, he was just happy for his basket and a couple of treats.

Tod thought the bunny was pretty sneaky, but he caught on quick.

Good finding skills Jack!

This girl loves to climb so, of course she finds the eggs at the top of the slide.

With their baskets and lots of eggs - aka sugar for the ride home.

Happy boy with his loot.

Any trip to Nana and Papa's always includes a hike up the hill.  This is the top of Memorial Hill that is right across the street from my parents house.  Jason lets the kids climb up the side instead of following the dirt road around and around.  They love it! And when the get to the top they have their snack and juice.
Family pic by the memorial of  fallen soldiers.

Our "twins." They're starting to fit in each others clothes.

This girl is always ready with a smile! And always ready to take off her shoes anywhere!
