Ryan is 4!!

I can't believe he is four! Time flies. The kid who started out as the most miserable baby has turned into such a cute, funny, energetic boy who just absolutely loves life and everything about it. Some of the things I love about him right now...

*How totally animated he gets when he tells a story, huge arm gestures, faces, movements, too cute

*His favorite foods are rice and raspberries. He would eat nothing else if I would let him.

*How much he still loves his blanket, not too grown up yet.

*How much he loves his brother, he wants to do everything that Brandon does.

*How he does everything with reckless abandon. He gets so into things, we are going to have to figure out a way to channel that fierce determination.

*How much he loves to snuggle. He gets in bed with us about once a week, and he lays on top of us, why, I don't know, we have a king size bed, he just wants to be close.

*How much he loves to explore. His favorite things are mazes, puzzles, games, and anything to do with science. He is always figuring things out.

I hope these things don't change anytime soon. We love you sweet Ryan, Happy Birthday!!

Why do I bother?

So, it is bluebonnet time here in Texas again. They are not very good this year, I think because of the lack of rain (until last week), but they are pretty just the same. So it was time for the annual force-the-boys-to-take-pictures-in-the-flowers day. Wow, it went bad. Not that they usually cooperate, but really why do I even bother. It reminded me of when I was younger and my mom had the annual force-the-family-to-take-a-formal-picture day, so much whining, so much arguing. We could have been done in less than 2 minutes if they would have just cooperated, but not so much. Anyway, these are the best I could get, sad I know. Just think, next year I get to this with 3 boys, 2 that are old enough to protest, and 1 that will be just learning to crawl. Fun times.

First Impressions

So today, we went to an interview at Brandon's new school. They like to meet all the families with the students and make sure you understand what you are getting yourself into with the university model school. Let me say, it did not go well. Brandon was not happy about leaving preschool for an hour to go to a meeting. He acted like a maniac the whole time. Jumping all over the place, wouldn't sit still in the chair, wouldn't answer the girl when she was asking him questions, and when he did he was using this baby voice saying just plain stupid stuff. At one point, I looked over at him and he was laying in the chair with his feet up on the table. Such a proud moment for me as a parent. By the end of the meeting, the girl had pegged him as the over active distracted child who needs a very stern teacher to keep him in line. I finally had to speak up and say that I didn't know what was going on, but this is not how he acts (I'm sure she was like, "yeah, right, that is what they all say") but really, Brandon is normally very calm and shy, especially in situations where he is out of his element. Chris and I both left totally embarassed and also worried that he is going to be labeled "that kid" in the class and school hasn't even started yet. That, or they will call us back and tell us that kindergarten is full, sorry. Great first impression.

A Perfect Weekend

Belinda and Rob (Belinda trying to stay far away from the crawfish)

Combine great friends, great food, great weather, and a new baby to celebrate and what do you get? A perfect weekend. This weekend my friends Laurie and Alicia and my mom threw me the mother of all baby showers. It was awesome. Laurie asked me a few weeks ago if we could have a New Orleans style baby shower, and not really knowing what that meant, I of course agreed because she knows how to have a good time. Well, it involved crawfish, families, beer, and lots of fun. I am not really into baby showers, I hate being the center of attention, and this being baby number 4, and our 3rd boy, a baby shower seemed unnecessary, but I was happy to oblige for a great party. Laurie and her family came in town, along with my friends from college Belinda and Rob, my parents, my sister and her family, Aunt Pat, and so many friends from church. I could have just sat there all day enjoying being with so many of my favorite people. We laughed so hard my stomach hurt and we ate so much my stomach hurt.

Sweet baby Declan will also not be naked now, we got tons of the cutest outfits. He also won't be cold, we got lots of beautiful blankets, several of them hand made by my friends and family. You guys are all so crafty, I am jealous. In addition we got cute little socks, toys, books, and baby necessities. This baby is so loved, thanks for everything you all brought for him.

Declan also has a new nickname, and he isn't even born yet. The cookie cake people didn't understand the order and called the night before to make sure that they had it right. The guy who took the order just wrote down "Welcome Baby Crawfish" on the order and put Declan someplace else. The cake person was pretty confused that we would want a cake that said Baby Crawfish, so she called to check on it. I almost wish they hadn't called, that would have been so funny if the cake had said that, but now Declan is Baby Crawfish.

So thank-you everyone for such a great weekend. It was a perfect day, we feel so loved, and excited for everyone to meet Declan. Several people asked if we would have another baby so we could have another crawfish boil. Well, no more pregnancies, but maybe when little man turns one, we could have another crawfish party, anybody interested??

As promised in a previous post, a belly shot. I am huge.
