These Belong to Him

I had THE BEST Mother’s Day EVER!!!  Meredith decided to follow through with her decision to follow Christ in baptism.  It’s taken her a while (https://trookfamily.wordpress.com/2009/01/04/jesus-rocks/  ), but she did it in her own time with God’s help.  Let me tell you, I’m not sure I could have asked for a more perfect gift.  Seeing your sweet baby following through in obedience was just precious.  She had so much fun!  To make it even better, 5 of her friends made the decision, each on their own, as well.  Such a sweet, sweet Mother’s Day!

A few more “events” since December…

Thanks to Jason for finally updating the blog.  I was just too overwhelmed with everything and didn’t even know where to start.  We did remember 3 more things to record.

1-We got pets.  Mom (without asking, but it’s all good) got the kids an aquarium for Christmas.  They were beyond excited when we actually got the water level right and put actual living things in it.  To date we have had 5 feeder fish (2 died early, 1 “got lost”, 1 got taken back because Meredith didn’t want her best friend to be flushed, and the last one died just last week.),  2 neon (pink-Ballerina and yellow-Ranger) fish, 1 bright orange fish (Moe), 2 fish with blue streaks on them (Blue and Berry), 3 snails-2 died, and now 2 nasty looking ghost shrimp to help with our algae problem.  (As I’m typing this post, apparently we “lost'” a shrimp.) Wow, that’s a lot of pets for non-pet people!  But, we love our aquarium.  Thanks, Gran!

2-I will spare you the details of #2 (no pun intended), but Wesley got the death virus!  It was awful.  We ended up taking him to the Children’s ER at Covenant, because I was worried about him getting dehydrated.  Other than the forever long wait on a Saturday night, it was a “good” experience.  Let me just say that we have had 5 people holding Wesley down to simply get a Strep test before, so I was secretly freaking out about an IV!  However, it was one of my proudest moments as his mom.  Wesley was amazing.  He did not shed a tear.  He did ask lots of questions, which is in character, but no problems.  He especially loved the grape popsicle he got at the end.  And, for those of you who know how easily our son throws up, don’t think I wasn’t putting some of those puke bags in my purse.  We have several now!  Good-bye to the “in case” buckets in the car!

3-At last, but very certainly not least…wait for it…wait for it…

That’s right.  Lubbock finally got a Blue Sky.  Our family is now complete!  We love this place!

I think that’s all the majors up until now!

It’s been a while; how have you been?

Well, a lot has happened since our last post.  Namely graduation/birthday party, Christmas, snow storms, a new year, Upward basketball, more snow, women’s tea, Valentines day, and track season starting.

I graduated from Lamar with my masters in education administration.  I did not however travel to Beaumont for the ceremony.  My family threw me a little graduation/birthday combination party at Dion’s.  It was great fun.

We went to Amarillo for Christmas break (5 UIL mandated days).  Meredith enjoyed her first real snowstorm.  She was amazed by all the snow.  Wesley also had a fun time with the massive amounts of snowfall.  We spent a few good days with my family and then headed back for basketball tournaments.

New Years eve and day were spent with the Ries family.  This has become an annual tradition.  We ate too much and played a lot of cards.  Stephanie has started making this new salsa with avocados and there was quite a lot of it eaten to celebrate the arrival of 2010.

Wesley started Upward basketball this year.  It is his first time to play competative basketball.  He has had a fun and is improving his game.  In my unbiased opinion he is pretty good.  He is learning how to use his size and pull down rebounds.  I have worked hard to be the proud father and not a basketball coach.  Next Saturday will be his last game followed by the big Awards Ceremony.

Another snow storm blew through West Texas causing Lubbock ISD to cancel school.  This gave Stephanie and I the perfect excuse to watch a few episodes of Chuck.  It is a show that we really enjoy.  In fact we watched all of season 1 and 2 and caught up with season 3 in a week.  Yes we watched 42 episodes of Chuck in 7 days.  I feel fairly accomplished.

Stephanie and Meredith attended the Women’s tea at our church.  You couldn’t ask for a better opportunity for Meredith to show off her girlie-girl side.  Tea cups, big hats and fancy dresses; it was perfect for our little princess.

Meredith and I went to the father-daughter dance at Waters for Valentines day.  We danced, had snacks, and Meredith got to run around with her pre-K friends.  Stephanie and Wesley went to Dion’s and had their own date as well.

That should catch everyone up on our lives.  I will post a mass of pictures to accompany our catch up session tonight or tomorrow.

Nutcracker ’09

I title this ’09, because I’m pretty sure we have officially made attending the Nutcracker tradition.  We went last year and enjoyed it.  This year was SO FUN watching Meredith take it all in.  I don’t know if it’s because she’s older or what, but she could hardly contain her excitement!  AND, the cherry on top was when her best friend, Abby, sat across the aisle from us.  Great surprise!  Such a wonderful night!

Thanksgiving ’09

We had a wonderful time in Abilene with family this year!  It was not nearly long enough, but still amazing.  We left Friday afternoon and drove to Amarillo for a reunion with Jason’s high school church friends.  It was so fun to see Jason light up when each one of his friends showed up.  Hard to believe all the kids that were there as well!

Meredith loved “cooking” the relish tray.

Jessica Lane Gray Photography

One of our friends has started a photography business.  She is very gifted!  This post is 2 fold: 1-Go to her website and check out her work.  2-Maybe we’ll win a free session!  You know me-I LOVE pics of my kids!  She’s giving away a free session if you live in Texas (or will travel to her.)  Her blog is jessicalanegray.blogspot.com  and her website is jlgphotography.com.  Go give her some business, but I hope to win the session!

I Can’t Believe She’s FIVE!

I’ll post party pics later, but I just spent some time looking back at our sweet girl’s life.  She has always been such a joy to our hearts!  We love you, Meredith!

1st Lost Tooth for the Girl!

 Mer's 1st lost tooth

(This may have too many details for some, but it’s so I won’t forget.)

Last Tuesday morning, about 5:00am I heard Meredith come out of her room and go to the bathroom.  She never came into our room, so I just went back to sleep (within about 30 seconds.)  When Jason woke up to his alarm at 5:45, I told him to check on her since the bathroom light was still on and her door was open.  He checked, she was alseep, so he shut her door and started getting ready.  I woke up about 6:10 and Wesley came in our room about the same time.  Then at 6:15, Meredith comes in with her hand in the air saying, “I lost my tooth!!!”  WHAT!?!?!?!  (Bottom front right) I’m thinking, that something has to be wrong.  We didn’t even know it was loose!  Did she knock it out as she was rolling into the wall in her sleep?  Are all her teeth falling out?  Everything seemed to be fine.   There was zero blood in her bed or in the bathroom.  So strange.  She was SO excited.

Here’s her story:  “It just fell out.”  That’s it.

I needed more details.

Meredith-“I sat up in my bed, and it just came out.  Then, I went to the bathroom.  Then, I got back in my bed.”

Me-Meredith, what did you do with your tooth when you got back in bed?

Meredith-“I held it.”

Me-While you were sleeping?

Meredith-Yes.  I lost my tooth!

She told EVERYONE she saw at school!  Her new favorite thing is that her milk straw fits in her “lost tooth.”  She is so stinkin’ cute with her little gap and sweet lisp!  She brings so much joy to our family!   Notice her puffy little eyes!  Happy 1st Lost Tooth, Meredith!
