Rocky's First Christmas

We had a great Christmas. We had the traditional Chinese Christmas Eve dinner, slept in until 8:30, and had a nice quiet stay at my parents' house. this year....
Dad added 8 inches to his screen....
Rae got some hot new jams...
Troy got exactly what he wanted (toys)....
And Rockwell was all smiles....
he did so good opening his first present. He mostly wanted to eat the wrapping paper....
Here he is with his first Christmas loot (except the cute Elmo from Grandma Kathy and some snack holders). It was so fun to have him with us and share his first ever Christmas. It made it an extra special time of year.

Backstage Nutcracker

I know I've posted about these things before, but I love LOVE being backstage. The irony of it amuses me. The smiles and glitters onstage and everything the dancers choose to show the audience is only part of the show. The best part is the organized chaos, ungraceful costume changes, tears, and inside jokes that go on behind the scenes is really the best part. And since I didn't see the show (although I heard it was very very good) I didn't get any pictures of the show. This year I got to help with costumes.

6 month Stats

Rockwell is six months old! He is getting so big and we just love having him around. His stats from the doctor today are
weight: 15.8 lbs --- 19%
Height: 25.8 in ---- 25%
head circ: 17 in ----33%
He loves watching big kids play, bananas, baths, being outside, and funny noises. He hates his car seat, getting dressed and applesauce. He can be kind of a stone-face and makes us work to get smiles and giggles out of him but it's worth it. We love him so much!

So, here it is the final product of this years Halloween costume. If everything had worked out with the materials then I could have been done two months ago, instead I was working on it until after our halloween party started. The whole problem was that the clay I used had sulfur in it, causing a series of chain reactions. I didnt know that the clay had sulfur in it, and as it turns out, silicon, and Dragon Skin (extremely high grade silicon, or just Silicon Platinum) react to sulfur and latex. So the sulfer in the clay leeched into the rubber mold I made, causing the DS not to set up after it was poured into the mold making a huge sticky, expensive mess. On top of that I was wearing latex gloves. I knew what sulfur does to high grade silicon, but had no clue about latex. To bad that I had to learn and relearn on a big project like this. In the end I had to use Flex-Foam-It 25 and X to do the body of the costume and I used the molds of the boots and gloves instead of what would have been really cool boots and gloves. I mixed silicon, plastic and pigment for the coloring on the Effects. This is a face mold of Jordan I did for his costume. The mask lights up around the eyes, though it is hard to tell in the light. I still want to add lenses and maybe brighter lights if needed.

These last two photos are of the Infant and Mother molds. Now that Halloween is over I want to get started on the next years suit right away, but I promised Alie I wait until after New Years before I started making plans on making it. Though it is most likely going to contain elements from the last two costumes fabric and DS, plus aluminum...

Little Dragon

Rocky was a Dragon this year.I modified a skunk pattern and made out it out of minkey and felt
My favorite part is the back. Troy designed the wings for it. I'm really happy with how it turned out!

Halloween Party 2010

Our Halloween party this year was so much fun! Everyone's costumes were amazing! We had sword fighting this year
tons of cute decorations (Nancy, Lindsay, and Shellina, you guys did awesome!)
And a really great turn out- about fifty people showed up. Here's a picture of everyone watching the movie- The movie was even better and funnier than last year. I loved it.
This was my costume. I totally surprised Troy by doing everything he hates. I look AWFUL!
Remember that mold of Troy we made back in March? This is what it turned into. It turned out really good! I'll let Troy do a post about it later.

Happy October 11

Today is the seven year anniversary of our first date. I was a Jr and Troy was a Sr in High School. We went to the ice caves with Fred, Carson, and Amber. We got a flat tire and walked part of the way and had to hitch a ride with some college kids on the way back. I was so nervous and the whole time I just couldn't believe that Troy Parson had asked me on a date. Then at the end of the night he held my hand and I about burst I was so excited. Seven years later I still can't believe he picked me, but I'm so glad he did.

Thoughts and insights gained in my first 4 months of Motherhood

-It was very difficult to imagine life with a child. It's just starting to become part of my "normal"
-Childbirth is painful yet survivable
-Being needed 24/7 is both draining and rewarding
-breastfeeding is dang hard but 3 months later after doing both it's SOO much easier than the bottle
-It's ok to start out the day with low expectations pertaining to housework. It spares some dissapointment
-fatigue is now my permanent companion
-it is humanly possible for me to get out of bed in the middle of the night. Who knew?
-Along with that, i actually can survive on only 6 hours of sleep instead of 9 (though I would prefer 10 if given the option)
-I've never had a job so demanding and so rewarding at the same time
-I think I have the most beautiful baby in the world. Nothing against other kids-- it's simply in my job description
-Having one kid makes having more kinds more daunting but less scary
-my sister Heidi was right-- baby smiles make it all worth it
-I look forward to him crawling, walking, talking, eating, etc
-I dread him crawling, walking, talking, eating, etc
-My house is in a constant state of mess. I can only assume it gets worse with each kid
-I hope he has friends
- Troy is great at being patient when I am frustrated
- Troy is my lifesaver
-I like being a mom way more than I ever thought I would
- It's an amazing thing to be busy and bored at the same time
- I love just holding him. It feels so right. I never knew it was like that
- Pop tarts make a great snack (fast)
- We have a loving Heavenly Father who gave mothers automatic instinct and inspiration for which I am grateful

All in all I can't believe how much I love my little boy, how hard it all is, how great it all is. After all my fears and doubts about having a baby it is the most worthwhile thing I have ever done. I have learned so much in so little time including how much I don't know yet. It's pretty much just the best job ever
P.S. For all of you who pinched his chubby cheeks or squished his little leg rolls and asked me, here's his four-month stats:

Weight: 14.5 lbs 69%
Height: 24 inch 43%
Head circ: 26.5 inch 62%

Thank you

Because....

-I needed a project while "waiting" for my baby to arrive...
-Trent LOVES blankets...
-I wanted to do something special for Dyan...
-Their wedding colors were so beautiful....

I made Dyan and Trent a quilt for their wedding! But a small project quickly turned into a huge project when I decided to make it queen sized for their bed and then hand quilt it.
So it turns out this quilt is from me, my mom, and my sisters Sarah and Heidi (without whom none of the projects in my brain would ever become a reality). I wanted to say "Thank you!" for all the time and effort they put into this also. I wanted you guys to see how beautiful it looks in her room. Dyan and Trent LOVE it. Trent says "What a blessing" they don't have to use their old black and tan comforter.
Stay tuned for my next project: I'm totally making one of these for us (in blue and brown!)

Calvin Ball

I grew up with 4 sisters and all girls in my primary class. Playtime sounded something like this:
"pretend your barbie is mad at my barbie"
and
"Say your barbie comes over to my house"
It was a great way to grow up and it worked quite well until you got sick of telling each other what to do. Now I get to babysit a 4 year old boy and have the joy of playing with him and his friends. Something I didn't know about boys: anything goes! And I love to play along! let me demonstrate a conversation we had (I'll call him J):

J (on the porch): you're, you're the bad guy. I'm shooting your ship
Me (on the ground with the younger kids: oh no I'm sinking!
J: now you back alive.
Me: Ok, now I shot your ship
J: my ship is made of stuff that can't sink. Now, now, I shot your ship adin (again)
Me: But i just put up a forcefield around my ship
J: Well I have bullets dat can shoot through forcefields

And it just keeps going until fighting breaks loose. Get the picture? It's awesome! Too bad real life can't be like this sometimes. I mean like "your bank account is empty" "Well, i just put a million dollars in it" kind of life. I guess there's no point to this post except this: every boy plays Calvin Ball.

Baby Blessing

Thank you to everyone who came to the blessing, stood in the circle, and helped with the brunch. We all felt so loved. Everything was perfect- the outfit, the blanket, the blessing, the food, and the family and friends- AND he didn't even fuss during the blessing!

Costume Update

I've finally finished the body mold, smoothed the seams and gave it a coat of primer and sealer, now its ready to add clay. I've started the glove process, the wax mold was fun to do, but now there is a big red spot on the kitchen floor where a bunch of wax fell. If Alie wasn't all ready to kill me, I was. Now the next steps are to cast the feet then pour plaster inside. And that is when I can sculpt the two fingered/toed gloves and boots. Thats it for the quick update.

Water and Fire

So in these videos, we have some more fun at the Jet off of Ursa Minor, the back flip was the first one I've done there. Jordan was standing on the edge tryin to decide wether or not to do it. I said to him; hey that should be fun so he stepped over and said go for it. Fun. the other video is of a thing called FireWire, the process is you tie a speaker wire around some steel wool that you've pulled slightly apart to create more room for the fire to burn, then light it with a lighter. then you can swing it around and people stay clear. this is also a great method if you are ever in a crowded space and start to feel claustrophobic, just pull out your pre-tied wool, light her up and start swingin. The one I had in the movie wasn't tied on to tight so it didn't last as long, but it was sure fun.

Here is our pea pod baby and our Office Monster, (he'll do business only if he gets yogurt)
