5 Whole Years

Written by Alison

5 YEARS

AND

2 kids
3 cats
8 sugar gliders
5 moves
4 wards
3 cars
1 motorcycle
6 couches
16 jobs
2 Bachelor degrees
and 10 bottles of ibuprofen later

We're still together!

We would have liked to have gone somewhere fun and to celebrate the big 5 years but with Otto so little still we just couldn't get away. So we took the money we would have used for that and we built a bed! It's big! And we found the plans here

Oh, Otto. What a sweet boy who loves to eat his hands and hide his precious smile. (I guess this picture doesn't really show anything except me goofing off while Troy worked)

Rockwell was sooooooo helpful of course. We gave him his own special piece of wood to hammer and paint (one of my better ideas).

Troy only trusted me with the drill some of the time...

...So I supervised

Just kidding. I did everything I could do with one hand. Is it just my kids or a stage  they go through that they don't ever want to be put down EVER?

Sidebar: we had very little room to work and our neighbors were good sports stepping around our mess. It motivated us to get it done and out of the way quickly

Rocky sportin' his"smock" (another one of my better ideas) and "hat"

Tah-dah! Actually building this saved us money because now we don't have to buy a new mattress like we thought we would have to (who knew it was just the box-spring that was trash? They should have called it cardboard-box-spring). I know some other people have made this bed. I hope they love how theirs turned out as much as we do.

Does it take up the whole room in our tiny apartment? Yes. Yes it does.

Seriously though my favorite part of the whole thing was spending time with my Honey creating something useful together. Believe it or not we work pretty well together. I'm the drive to get it done fast and he's the drive to get it done right and between the two of us we get it done kinda fast and mostly right

P.S. Meet our new Ragdoll cat Harvy.
The story behind Harvy (if anyone is interested) is that- for one- we found out the managers of our apartments don't really care (ask the lady next door who is housing 4 small dogs and 2 large cats) and- for two- I was really getting some baby blues. With Troy being so busy and a new baby I just got lonely and needy and depressed. He's a year old because I needed a companion not another baby. I would have taken Monster back in a HEARTBEAT but since I couldn't we had to start fresh.
He's fun. He follows me around the house and watches me work and waits for me to pet him. He likes Otto but not Rocky.

Another Sidebar: Heidi, if Theron ever lets you get a cat, you should totally go all out and get a Ragdoll. We love him and they hardly shed

Summer Adventure Picture Overload

The neighbor's Cat in our House
Not our cat. But him and Rocky are friends. This picture makes me laugh

The Zoo
We went to the zoo. Rocky didn't like the petting zoo. We had fun but he mostly just ran around

He didn't like the pig either. He didn't want to get near it at all

He's feeding the tiger wood chips. I thought it was pretty clever.

Otto slept. He's a pretty good sleeper, I guess since this is him during most of our activities.

Sleeping Adventures
This is how Otto takes most of his naps. In the living room on his tummy. He sleep on his back in his crib at night but for some reason not so much during the day.

We tried to transition Rocky slowly into a toddler bed by taking off the side of his crib. It didn't work too well as you can see by these next two pictures. Finally we just put his mattress on the ground so we could put Otto in the crib. It took about two weeks but now we're all finally getting some sleep

Who's Kid is This?

He's ALL boy. He loves tools, trucks, and balls. He's all boy but not in the same way his action-hero loving daddy is

If you can't tell, he pounded the nail into his straw.

Parson Family Reunion

For the Parson reunion this year we went up to Island Park and stayed at the South Family's Family Reunion Center. It's huge with 10 bedrooms around the perimeter, 20 twin size beds in the loft, four bathrooms, two game rooms and a movie room. It was awesome!

I had to take a picture since I don't see Troy in the kitchen much. He told me not to get used to it.

Rocky in the loft. Since it's a dome and the loft goes clear around the dome, the kids used it as an indoor track and ran and around and around. Here's Rock taking a short break.

He had SO much fun with his cousins. Here we caught  a burst of enthusiasm

Just chillin' Sunday night. Here you can see the loft and Franci's BRAND new baby girl.

Riding in the Mule

Some of us went canoeing

With a little editing this could be a funny picture

We got ahead of the group and goofed off while we waited

Most people hiked to a bear cave

On the way back Rocky conked out. He was soooo tired from all the fun he had

I like these next two pics because its unusual for him to just chill but here he is taking a break and watching everyone for a moment

Pushing Otto around the dome

We had a lot of fun at the reunion but we sure missed everyone who couldn't make it

Independence Day

at the parade with Rachel, Grandma and Grandpa

Otto's first parade. He mostly slept through it
At the nature park to watch the  Rexburg fireworks. I think they were 5 minutes long but only because there was a two minute break in the middle

Rocky handled them pretty well as long as Troy held him

 Otto slept through these, too
Happy 4th everyone!
