We've been having some major nature withdrawals, so we drove out to Mineral Wells Lake to do a little camping. Max and Tessa were in heaven, despite ant bites and cactus pricks.

Our slightly nasty powdered soup. We're more backpack campers, so the whole dutch-oven-gourmet-camp-meals-thing is foreign to us. Luckily all the outdoor play worked up our appetites so we were able to get it down.

Waking up after the worst night's sleep ever. Animals were on the loose during the night, and I was sure that one would slash our little tent to pieces, or at the very least the skunk walking by would decide to give us a little spray. It also didn't help that Tessa kept on waking up totally excited to see us right next to her (she never sleeps in our bed). She kept expecting to play. Max, who always comes in our bed at night, slept like a log.

Sibling love.

You would never guess she got 4 hours of sleep the night before. Camping is just so much fun!

Swimming in the nasty little lake. Tyler brought up a bottle full of lakewater to wash his shoes with before he got in the car. It could easily have been mistaken for a urine specimen. Of course Max and Tessa thought the water was wonderful.

Tessa going off into the woods to take care of some business.

Although a piece of cactus may look harmless it probably isn't a good idea to pick it up. Just ask Max.

Not so content in the backpack. I can't believe we took Max on a 14 mile hike around Tessa's age. What a trooper.

Hugging his little friend goodbye. The original plan was to go out with some friends on Friday, but we bailed out last minute and went a day early because Tyler found out he had to work in Waxahachie on Saturday. We still met them for dinner on Friday night before driving home. (Off subject: I think it was Emily who said that she always hoped she could work Waxahachie into one of her posts. I'm happy that I was able to as well. It does feel good!)

DSO at the Arboretum

I wouldn't dare take Max and Tessa to a concert hall at their age, but this outdoor concert was perfect for them to hear the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. The drunk couples behind us made a lot more noise than we did, Max wasn't the kid with the light saber running behind the stage hitting the musicians cases, or the 10 year olds doing stupid dances in front of the violinists, so I would have to say that my kids were extremely well behaved. The music was beautiful, and Max was excited to hear the cellos. We also got a good laugh as the conductor (not Jaap van Zweden the new supposedly amazing conductor) tried to announce directions for the different countries the pieces came from. "And now we'll go north of Russia to a country called China" etc., etc. And me, well, it made me really really really really miss music.

The weather and scenery were perfect. Obviously this picture doesn't show it, because I still don't know how to use my camera, but trust me, it was beautiful.

Thanks Anthony and April for inviting us, it was great. (Although I'm fairly certain we were only invited after another couple flaked since we were called 40 minutes before the concert started. I'm okay with second choice though...just glad we got to go.)
