Little Musicians

SMID Home Concert February 18, 2012

Oh what a crazy and wonderful night. We were running late, I couldn't get a hold of my babysitter for Ella so we ended up having to take her, and it was raining like crazy. As we got out of the car in the pouring rain Max decided he could no longer walk because his ankle was too hurt (which is funny because it hadn't really been bothering him at home when he was playing with his toys). I was trying to hold an umbrella, a cello, a cello chair, and a violin while dragging Max along with me. Somehow we made it in and Max settled down, especially when Miss Donna gave him a little pep talk. I was a bundle of nerves by the time the concert started, and I hate to admit that my heart started pounding when it was my kids' turns. Um...stage mom... But they both did so well, and I really could not have been happier. Yes, Max forgot to let Dr. Bret play an introduction, and the piece nearly ended prematurely when Max found something really funny (inappropriate humor when nervous is something he inherited from me). Tessa also jumped right in without waiting for the pianist. They weren't perfect, but I'm completely okay with that. There were so many things that they did wonderfully it more than made up any little thing. I was just so overjoyed that they performed so well in front of a huge room of people. It was a really great night, and they were both so happy with what they had done.

In addition to the recital, the past two weeks of music have been pretty exciting:

*Max graduated from Suzuki Book 1! This is a big deal, as he had to play every song in Book 1 perfectly. Which meant a ton of review and way too much practicing.
*He also finished his Music Theory Book 1 and Dr. Carl played him a fanfare.
*Tessa graduated from her Twinkles. And played them in front of her group class.
