right this second...

I could not be happier:
to be leaving the snow.

don't get me wrong, I think it's really pretty and I love the blanket of powder that it's left outside today, but.... I am SO happy to be traveling somewhere tropical. I'm leaving early tomorrow morning for the Philippines and so so excited. still hanging on to a cough that has left me a little hoarse, but I'm feeling a LOT better. thank you very much for your well wishes. I'll be away from this space until January 12, but I promise to stop in and say hello. in the meantime, a dear friend of mine will be guest blogging the week of January 5 and I know she'll have some great things to share with you.

until then.... au revoir my friends! and have the merriest of merry Christmases and a safe, happy New Year!!! don't miss me too much. ;)

hi friends, I'm feeling a bit under the weather. I think this cold has got me, literally. and I've got to rest up, I leave for my trip on Sunday! I'll be back tomorrow with a really great sale to tell you about, but after that, I probably won't be back around until Friday. type to you then!

snow

yesterday, we had snow that dusted the streets of Portland with glittery white. it was relaxing to sit inside and watch the snow fall. I liked watching it change direction, one minute it was snowing upwards, the next it was coming in sideways.
it's funny what snow does to a city that hardly ever gets snow. hardly anyone drives. people sled down hills in trash can covers or whatever else they can find that might work. we bundled up and braved the streets to have lunch at our favorite spot.
I love the snow for it's peaceful qualities. but today while walking to work.... it was a bit cold and not so much loved anymore.

happy monday friends!

right this second...

I decided it's about time:
to let you in on my holiday adventures.

so friends, this year for Christmas, I told you that I'm not going to be putting up a tree. well, that's only partly true. my Dad will have a little tree. but not a real one and it'll be dressed up at the beach. yep, at the beach. :)
this year for Christmas, I'm finally taking that trip to visit my Dad in the Philippines for three glorious weeks of vacation. I'll be laying on the beach, soaking up rays, taking volcano top horse rides, eating exotic fruits and all the mango I can handle, and experiencing life as my Dad knows it. I've been learning a little Filipino, and while everyone else is buying scarves and sweaters, I've been hunting sales on shorts, tees, bathing suits and sandals. I am sooo excited and dlb will be coming with me!! our rats will be in safe hands while we're gone and this little space will be run by some fantastic guest bloggers. next week will be my last week posting until January! I'm sure I will post a few hellos. I've got a few things planned for next week, but I know I'm going to be really really busy so posting may be light.

but I'm so so excited.
for now, happy friday friends!! and paalam {goodbye}!

dear santa...

like I mentioned before, the holidays snuck up on me. I had big plans for gift lists but I opted to keep the holiday blogging simple this year. so santa, here are some things from my little wish list along with what I think would make great gifts. coriolis earrings - perfect for the little rocker in her.
payton shirt in purple - la la love purple lately.
leather tassel gloves - warm and oh so cute.
clarks adore - warm and soft suede in a fabulous wine suede.
alliterative alphabet necklace - for the narcissist.
earth mirage - my feet are always cold.
loyale solano tunic - love this dress. it's so versatile.
french sailor shirt - because who doesn't love stripes?
sunny icicle - simply glamorous.
vegan fusion - from my favorite lunch haunt, this cookbook looks amazing, even if you're not vegan.
solid merino throw - the softest merino throw ever. trust me.
muffin pans - for the breakfast lover who's tired of making scones... :)
mareike auer calendar - I just love her illustrations.
printing by hand - perfect for the crafter who wants to experiment with more medias.
capri blue candle in a jar - bring the tropics into your home.
kitchenaid ravioli attachment - who doesn't love fresh ravioli?
magnetic kitchen timer - it's just so cute and probably sounds better than the microwave timer.
satsuma press calendar - it's beautiful... and psst, she's having a give away on her blog!!

printable gift tags are in the shop!

Jenny, you've out done yourself... the holiday shop looks amaaaaazing.
the Wiksten shop opens on Wednesday.

photos by leah

Leah emailed me last week to let me know about her new collection of holiday cards. I think the cards are fantastic and the photography is simply lovely. how about you?

unruly things on facebook

for those of you on Facebook, you can now become a fan of Unruly Things! I figured it was about time....

ok, ok...

I never meant to be a bad blogger last week.

it's the holidays, I tell ya. time goes faster than you ever want it to. I mean, don't get me wrong. I'd have the holidays last all year if I could. but there is something magical that happens every year around November 30... time speeds up. seriously. on top of that, this is probably the busiest time of the year. Friday snuck by me so quickly, that I didn't had the time to post!

::

a few things....

collection calendar: there is only one calendar left in my shop. I haven't decided if I'm going to post any more, so if you were looking to purchase one, this is the only one left! if I do put any more up in the shop, it won't be until after Christmas. thank you so much for your orders!! the collection calendar is sold out for now.

shop update: I finally had a chance to photograph some things over the weekend, and I'll have them up in the shop tomorrow. this year, I'm offering gift tags and note cards that you will be able to print up yourself! after the order is placed from the shop, you'll receive an email with the file attachment. feel free to print up as many as you like. I've got 5 different styles of gift tags and two note cards.

custom orders: if you are waiting for a custom order from me, I apologize again for the wait. as I mentioned before, the holidays are the busiest time of year for all of us. all custom orders will be completed by December 19. and if you've emailed me with a request for a custom design, I apologize but I am not taking any more orders until after the beginning of the new year.

whew... sorry for the lengthly wordy post. just some stuff I had to mention. happy monday!

flickr favorites :: dwellings

what is it that makes a house a home? is it the big, plush couch plopped right in the middle of the floor or the sweet smell of sugar cookies baking in the oven? or maybe it's that porch that has seen many sunsets and late nights of laughter. it's family. it's comfort. it's where you make memories and feel the most at... well, the most at home. today's flickr favorites are all about dwellings.

lovely feathers

I love these feather ornaments by Roost. I were to be decorating a tree this year, I'd gladly fill it up with these lovelies.
by the way, there's a big reason why I'm not decorating a tree this year.... more on that later.

sponsor - sublet clothing

I'd like to welcome the newest addition to Unruly Things sponsors, Sublet Clothing! I couldn't be more pleased to have them join the group of inspiring sponsors. Sublet strives to bring care to the garment industry and style to sustainable design with their eco friendly apparel. I just love their collection, especially the Alison dress, even if it is spelled with an I rather than a Y. :) welcome Sublet!!

flickr favorites :: magic

there are so many pictures that move me. and there are so many pictures that I love. these photos however, I've seen in my dreams. I'll briefly tell you about the time that I didn't favorite one of these photos when I first saw it, and then I beat myself up for months trying to find it again. I think about these photos often and cycle through my flickr favorites to find them and gaze upon them for inspiration. it's these photos that exude magical qualities that I simply can't explain. maybe you'll see it too. and yes, there are many more. but this was all the magic overload I could handle for one day.

flickr favorites :: white space

I have such a fondness for white. I would decorate my entire apartment with white and pops of color if dlb or my two bad cats would allow. it just seems so clean and bright. this spring I started a flickr group called White Space Wednesday with the intention of bringing together like minded white lovers. I've been a bad group moderator but I've still loved your contributions. here are my favorite white space photos.
