Animal Kingdom - Safari Ride

The highlight of our Florida trip was most definitely Animal Kingdom. We went two days, and went on the Safari 4 times - yes 4. The good thing about the ride is that each time we had a different tour guide with their own sense of humor. Also, because we're dealing with real animals, we didn't know what we would see each time, and where they would be. Jack has mentioned this ride nearly every single day, and will tell anyone who will listen about he safari and all the animals he saw. This post is for my cute little boy who just can't get enough!

In the end, Jack was upset with me because I missed the warthog. It was hiding in a hole, and wasn't at a good camara angle. He also reminds me that I missed the flamingos, the lion, the cheetahs, and the ostrich eggs. Maybe next time buddy. We'll definitely be back!

Florida Trip May 2011

We spent a well-deserved and much-awaited week in Florida in May. Momma was in desperate need of a break after surviving tax season, and Jackson needed to see his dad, so off we went! We went to all the major "lands" of Disney, and even caught Animal Kingdom a couple of times - see separate post - it deserved one of it's own. We also spent plenty of time catching up with the cousins, visiting with Grandma and Grandpa Parker, swimming in various pools, visiting the beach, and just plain relaxing!

Jack got to be a volunteer at the Lion King show in Animal Kingdom. He thought it was great to be in the "parade" and was a good-hearted participant until couldn't find Mom or Dad anymore......then he panicked a little. They had to bring him back in tears, but is was short lived.

Jackson - the little fishie - couldn't get enough swimming in. He constantly wanted to be in the water. Leading up to the trip, all he could talk about was getting to the beach and swimming in the ocean.

It didn't turn out quite like he expected. He only lasted about 10 minutes in the ocean before he decided that the "ocean was too mean". Back to the pool we went.

He loved getting ready each day because it knew that it meant more fun. This trip to Disney was the best by far. We did everything at Jackson speed, and on his terms. He was quite a shopper and loved to go into most stores to look around. He was adament about the rides he liked and didn't like. By the end, he was done with shows. "NO MORE SHOWS, PLEASE!". For the most part, we were able to leave the stroller behind, and Jack trekked all over the parks.

By the end of the very last day, all he wanted to do was cool off in some water, so we spent quite some time at the splash pad. He was a soaked little boy, but boy did he have fun.

One of these days, we're going to get a picture of Jack looking at the camara and smiling at the same time. Ugh. The flowers and plants at Disney were so gorgeous in the spring. Can't wait to go back again!

Easter 2011

We had a wonderful Easter celebration this year. We spent Saturday with Grandma and Grandpa Christensen celebrating the way I did growing up. We packed a yummy picnic lunch and headed into the desert for some 4-wheeling and an Easter egg hunt among our beautiful red rocks.
The red rocks have more little holes, caves, bends, and hiding places than you could imagine. Grandma was a really good sport to hide eggs endless times for our little hunter.

The Easter Bunny found Jack and brought plenty of treasures and trinkets. He was especially excited about his baseball bat, ball, and mit. He aslo really enjoyed his Handy Manny pez dispensers. If only we had endless pez.

We spent lots of time this spring watching Alexa or McKoy play baseball, so Jack could hardly wait to get his own equipment.

All dressed up on Easter morning for Church. He's turning in to such a big boy! We had such a good lesson on that Easter Sunday in Sunbeams about the resurrection and what it meant. Teaching those little 3 year olds about the Savior, his sacrifice, and resurrection was a real challenge and a blessing at the same time. They left class that day able to explain why the tomb was empty.....because Jesus was resurrected! Long word for little mouths!

Rise and Shout!

Jack and I spent March like the rest of the country - especially BYU fans - watching our Cougars play some GREAT basketball! We had a bad case of Jimmer-mania! I'm doing my best to turn my little guy into a Cougar fan early. He can sing most of the words to "Rise and Shout", and really likes the ra ra ra's at the end.

Our game day tradition included wearing our favorite BYU sweatshirts and getting take out from Durango's. I'm almost afraid that Jack associates any basketball with Mexican food.

This is the best I could do getting Jack's picture taken wth Jimmer. At least we can say we tried!

Happy Valentine's Day!

This was our Saturday project. Jack is all about "helping" these days, and loves sprinkles more than anything. He was a real trooper, and only fell off his "helper chair" twice. He has some real grace about him. Nothing a couple of bandaids and some kisses from Mommy wouldn't fix.
Next time, remind me to bake the cookies ahead of time so that Jack will only have to help with frosting and decorations. :)

We definitely couldn't keep all the cookies at our house, so it's a good thing I work in a busy office this time of year. Who wouldn't want a sugar cookie when they have their taxes done? We have to soften the blow somehow, right?!

Jesus Wants Me For a Sunbeam!

Here's one of the newest, and also the youngest Sunbeam in our ward! Jack turned three and started primary with the big kids a little over a week later.
He's mostly enjoying it. He only occasionally shouts out, and stays in his seat sometimes. It's a work in progress. His newest trick is throwing a fit during opening exercises unless Mommy stays in the room with him. *Sigh* I guess I'll learn all the new primary songs that way. :) At least I didn't have to go to class this week! Any progress is good progress. I'm also not above bribery!

We did have Christmas.....

We had such a WONDERFUL Christmas Season. We put up our decorations well before Thanksgiving so that we could enjoy the festivities that much longer. December was exceptionally cold and wet around here, but we still tired to squeeze in as many parties, Christmas lights, nativities, and other events as we could. Some of Jack's favorites this year were all things Christmas Lights. He especially enjoyed Grandpa Christensen's ever changing and evolving Christmas display. He also loved the Christmas Tree Advent Calendar. Every single morning, the first thing he would do is run to the kitchen table to open another little door to take out the ornament for that day. He especially liked Christmas Eve's ornament, a Christmas Sled that says "Jackson". Had to be a special ornament for his special birthday. He really didn't even know it was his birthday because we had our celebrations a month earlier. We still tried to make it a special day by going out to breakfast, and doing Jack centered activities all day long.

Santa found our house through all the cold and rain. One little boy was especially spoiled. It was such a wonderful Christmas for me as a Mom. Jack was simply a pleasure. He really dind't ask for much, and he thought everyrhing was the greatest. After opening all of his presents, he commented, "Santa got me EVERYTHING!" Someone must have been an extra good boy!

The one thing Jack insisted he was going to get was this little farm. He has the big Fisher Price farm set, but saw this one, and knew he had to have the matching smaller barn. He was petrified of Santa Claus, but insisted on going to see him twice in order to remind Santa about his barn. Whew! That Santa pulled though, and this little boy was super happy!

Jack loves playing with his new train table and all the things that go with it. He builds and rebuilds the tracks and buildings and starts all over to do it again.

He's also crazy about his car garage from the movie CARS. He has been a Lightening McQueen and Mater fan for a long while, and owns just about every character of car in the movie. He loves to have the cars "fixed" in the gargage, get their tires changed, and watch them race down the ramps. The garage travels back and forth to Grandma's house nearly every week so that he won't go a day without playing with it.

Finally.....Jack got a pedal bike. It took him a while to get his little legs to figure out the pedaling motion, but we knew he was a pro the day he decided to ride it all the way to Grandma's house. Mom only had to push a little at the end.

My favorite picture of Jackson the day after Christmas. He looked so handsome in his new Christmas tie.
