Happy 50th Dad!

I wanted to wish my dad a happy birthday. He turns 50 years old today!! He's the best dad ever...and I love him so much. He has always been a great example to his family! He has an incredible memory and has an amazing knowledge of the Gospel and Scriptures. He has always supported me and I appreciate him for that. So...to the very talented Cowboy Poet, Boot Repairman, Leather Craftsman, Fabric Cutter, Scriptorian, Grandpa & Dad...Happy Birthday! We hope you have a wonderful day and we love you!

***These are a few pictures of my dad. I thought it was fun to see the progress of the mustache. Frankly...I can't remember him without it!

Projects

Yesterday I had a (little) creative bug hit me. Lucas got this height board for his birthday, but I had never taken the time to paint it and make it all fun. It's just been standing in his closest. Since I now know what I'm decorating his room like, I decided to make it a jungle theme also. I love how it turned out. It matches perfectly in his room. Lucas helped me pick out the already painted animals at Roberts yesterday. I was so happy they had some...I didn't want to paint them!! I had decided that I wanted to outline the numbers so they would stand out...dumb idea! Although I love it now, I didn't realize just how long it was going to take...FOREVER! I was up till about 11:30 last night putting it altogether. Once I started, I couldn't stop until it was all done. Now I need to hang it and then find how tall Lucas was when he was 1 and 2 so I can mark them.
**Side note...Lucas just woke up and is not happy that his animals are glued on to the board! He told me to "get it" so he can play with them. He loved playing with them yesterday! Notice what time I was gluing them on at...need him to be asleep so I could steal them back!

In other Valentine Fam projects...we are starting on our yard. That is a huge project...mostly cause it consists of a million different projects combined! Jed has spent a lot of time raking and I'm happy to report that the front and most of the side yard are now rock free...at least big rocks! I can't believe how many wheelbarrows of rocks Jed has already hauled! He dug out some pretty big ones yesterday. I'm hoping that the first weekend in May we'll start pouring the concrete. We bought some 2x4's the other day so that we can frame where everything it going to go...patio, dog run, and expanded driveway/sidewalk (our drive way is pretty narrow).

I turned in our drawing of the yard to a place that is doing the sprinkler design for FREE and an estimate on parts! It should be done sometime this week. We have to wait until the concrete is done, but at least we'll know how much to plan for. There is a guy in our ward who also does the trenching. We'll definitely be hiring him!!

Slowly, but surely it's coming together. We'll probably plant grass in the fall, although I'm sad that we won't have any for summer. It's cheaper that way!

Lucas loves to help!!
Face he makes every time a rock hits the wheelbarrow!

Curtains/Ruffle

Here are a couple pictures of the curtain/dust ruffle my mom made. Didn't she do a marvelous job! I love them and they add so much to the room. As soon as I get the quilts back, I'll take some more pictures. My next thing is to find some decor to go with the jungle animal theme! I found a giraffe lamp that I really wanted, but it was WAY out of my price range! I'm going to put a saying on the wall in between the crib and the twin bed. If you have any cute animal sayings, please comment!

OCD!?

For those of you who are unfamiliar with our little boy, he's obsessed with having things in rows...blocks, puzzle pieces, shoes, cars, etc. The other day he had lined up all his blocks so that the animals were all facing out. The non-animal blocks (which are pretty much useless in his eyes) were set aside...except for one. Can you see the one that shouldn't be there??? I of course that it was funny and had a take a picture!!

Happy Easter

This year we spent Easter weekend up in Honeyville. My mom came down on Wednesday night and stayed the night and then took Lucas and I back with her on Thursday. We stopped at a couple fabric stores and I finally found some fabric that I like for the Lucas' room. I could never find exactly what I wanted (stripes and circles) so I changed my mind and decided to go with a jungle theme. Since the color of his wall is such bright green, I thought that would make for a cute jungle! I couldn't be happier! Here is a picture of the fabric. While I was home my mom helped me make curtains, crib ruffle, and two quilts...one for the crib and one for Lucas' twin bed. They turned out so cute. I forgot to take a picture of the quilts, but I'll post them as soon as I get them back. My grandma is going to bind them for me.

The jungle print is the back of the quilts, The leaves are the for the curtains and the ruffle and the flannel prints are the top of the quilt.

Mom hard at work...she was incharge of the curtains and ruffle...it's a good thing cause I would have totally cut the fabric wrong! Thanks mom for helping me!

Jed and Tawnya came up on Friday night after work. On Saturday we went to the Honeyville park for an Easter egg hunt. Even after all the practicing my mom had Lucas do before hand, he still could have cared less about the eggs...he just wanted the slide! Jed and Nappy participated in the adult egg throwing contest. They took 2nd place and I was truly proud of their accomplishment!! Besides, they should have been 1st...the first place team couldn't break there egg...I think it was boiled. Bunch of cheaters!! :)

Jed catching the prized egg!

Nappy gently tossing

My favorite 2nd place team!
We colored Easter eggs and my parents house. Again, Lucas was not interested at all. He prefered to run wild on the grass! My dad had bought a new wagon to hook to the riding lawn mower. Talk about the best entertainment ever...for my dad and Lucas! We had a BBQ at Boyd and Ellen's that afternoon. Lucas loved playing with all the little cousins. He was filthy dirty by the end, but he had a blast! Jed was lucky enough to help a neighbor pull a calf...he even got to swing the calf around to clean out it's lungs! He was pretty thrilled and said he learned a lot! Not sure when the knowledge will come in handy again, but at least he has it!!
We went to my parents ward and then had a yummy Easter meal before heading back home.

Hamm & Sally

Love the face!

Better than the carnival!

Xadun running for his life! Notice the cool boots with the shorts. It's what he wanted to wear and who can argue with a 2 year old!!

How cute is Xadun!

Throwing dirt...no wonder he was so dirty!

New Easter duds! (He does clean up rather nicely!)

Nappy & Tawnya

My new favorite picture of Lucas and Nappy!

The coolest Nappy I've ever known...oh wait, she's the only Nappy I've ever known...but, I sure do love her!

And the Winner is...

Not this one!!

that's right...ME! Look at that nearly perfect bracket!! Who would have thought.

Jed and I have this thing that every year during March Madness we fill in the NCAA basketball bracket. The great part about it is that we never watch college ball during the whole season and then we pretty much guess our way through the bracket. We don't even watch the games during March Madness...I just look up the results online! How cheesy is that!! It's pretty pointless, but we have fun doing it and that's all the matters!

General Conference Weekend

I always love this weekend. I remember growing up and how my parents would have to bribe us to sit in front of the T.V. We use to play conference BINGO with skittles or M&M's. Very rarely did we ever make it through an entire session without giving up and eating all the candies on our card! It seems like the older I get, the more and more I LOVE conference. Each two hour block goes by rather quickly and I find myself listening and enjoying every talk. And of coures, it always seems that they are written just for me! This conference was no exception! I'm not going to lie...it was especially nice to get to sleep in SUNDAY (at least to 8:00). Our ward starts at 8:00 in the MORNING! Sunday is the one day during the week that I actually have to set my alarm!

Saturday, after the second session and before the Priesthood session, we went to dinner with our friends Chad & Alicia. We ate a very delicious meal at Goodwood! The men went to the session here in Spanish and the girls went to a clothing party in Salem. I was really good though and didn't buy a thing!! Although, I did buy some capri's from Costco a couple of days before! I don't know what it is with me and clothes these days...I'm addicted to good deals!!

On Sunday we drove to Helper to visit Mariann & Nathan (Jed's sister). Jed's parents were also there. We had a very yummy BBQ! They took us to a new Dino park in Price. It was amazing! Every town should have a playground like this! Lucas had the time of his life going down the slides, playing on the swings, and just plain running around! It was hillarious to watch him go down some of the big slides...they were so fast that he would literally get spit him out at the end. He always wanted more though! He got a little freaked out when Mariann ran underneath his swing...it was pretty funny! After that he wouldn't let her out of his sight! Thanks Nate & Mariann...we had a great time!
