By the time they finally got him back in the procedure room it was past 11:00. They started his IV and once the doctor came in, they started the two different drugs. Bryson and I were asked to leave. An hour later the doctor comes out and we were anxious to hear how it went. She said there were some problems and that we needed to come back to the room (not what you ever want to hear). She said they hadn't done anything yet because when they put the mouth piece in him to do the EGD he woke up. How a 2 year old can wake up after having demerol and another drug is beyond me. They then tried to give him more drugs and realized that his IV had popped. They spent the next 45 minutes trying to get another IV, but because he was so upset and dehydrated they couldn't do it. You should see how many stick marks he has on his body. They even tried in his ankles...I didn't even know this was possible!
The doctor suggested rescheduling and doing it under anesthesia the next time. There was no way we wanted him to go through the prep and everything else again. We finally calmed him down and the anestisiologist came with an ultrasound machine to find a vein. Four of us held him down and they finally go the IV going. I felt so awful for him, but I knew we had gone that far and that we couldn't turn back.
They ended up just doing the colonoscopy. The great news is that the biopsies came back and the inflammation that was there last year is all gone. This means that it doesn't appear that he has a disease that is progressing. The bad news is that we aren't any closer to knowing what it is that causes him to be in so much pain. The doctor says that since it doesn't appear to be anything that is worsening or causing inflammation in his colon that we may just have to wait until he gets older so he can tell us more. There are a couple of different medicine options that she recommended, but for now we are going to let him be until he starts having another flair up.
So, now to my bragging time! I just think it is amazing how well Brody handles all of that. Despite how bad his stomach hurts at times, he is still such a happy and pleasant kid. By Thursday he was completely back to normal and acted as if none of the stuff had even happened. Bryson and I talk about how lucky we are to have such a good kid who is so much fun to be around. He hasn't always been easy, but he has finally reached that point. We are blessed for sure. Now...if I could just remember all of these wonderful things when it takes him over an hour to go to bed at night and wakes up multiple times in the middle of the night!!!
On the way home from the hospital with his dog the nurses gave him.
Playing with the toys that our friend Dr. Carter gave him
Playing with the soccer goal that he picked out at Toys R Us!
Having fun at the zoo today!
