Slow Down Meg

Meg turned 8 months old today and all sorts of sweet things come to my mind about how much I love her and how fast the time has gone by...but really the only thing I want to say to her is SLOW DOWN! I love how motivated you are and all, but it is getting a little ridiculous. Within the last week she has started pulling up, cruising, and today I caught her trying to climb. I already have experience with an active child, but Brody was never like this. She just learns how to do one physical thing and rather than just enjoy that new skill she is immediately on to the next thing. Seriously...there is NO rush sweetie! I never babyproofed anything with Brody (except outlets), but Meg may be a different story. She crawls under the coffee table and tried to climb up the inside of the armoire today. Crazy is all I can say!
Meg with Carolina and potential future hubby Cooper. He seems pretty interested in her!

Cruising around her toy basket
Besides being a complete mess here are a few other milestones for Miss Meg.....
  • Enjoys being tickled and is easily amused by kids/adults being silly
  • Seems to be disliking baby food and enjoying "table" food better. Loves anything that she can feed herself. Most recent foods she has tried include yogurt, strawberries, cantaloupe, and avacodo.
  • Always has her little legs a bouncing. When she drinks a bottle they are going 90 miles a minute.
  • Gets VERY upset when you take something away that she really wants. Like the grilled cheese she got a hold of today!
  • Loves playing with balls and attempts to roll it back and forth

Oh that Silly Boy

A few funny things that Brody has been saying recently
  1. He only calls me Ilena. Seriously? This was funny when he called his daddy Bryson Barner (and no that isn't a typo), but I prefer to be called mommy.
  2. He says sure to everything. I guess this is good b/c he rarely tells me no, but sure sounds too teenagerish for me.
  3. He adds "That is a good idea" to things I say or he says that he really likes and "No! That is not going to be a good idea" to things that he doesn't approve of.
  4. The child has become VERY skilled in his sense of direction. We have always noticed how aware he is of how to get to places and he notices if you go a different route to a place he is familiar with, but he now knows North/South/East/West. My dad got him started on this and gave him a compass for his birthday. For some reason I love this nerdy quality in him.
  5. He asks to have friends come over and play all the time and if I say that they can't then he just pretends they are here and talks to them and chases them.
  6. A couple of weeks ago he declared that he only loved me and no one else. Bryson thankfully doesn't take this to heart and has given Brody a hard time about it. Recently he has said that he only loves girl just not boys (hey...I'm not going to argue you with him over that...ha!). He asked a question recently and my answer was, "Because God loves you" and he said, "But I don't love God I only love girls". I gave some explanation and he decided that he would love girls and God and then last week a guy at church gave him a monster truck and he decided that he love that guy, God, and all girls!
  7. His favorite friend to have come over is Kennedy. A few weeks ago we had Kennedy over one Saturday morning before we went tailgating. They were having such a good time that we took Kennedy along with us to the tailgate. They played together then and after a good long time together I decided it was time for us to go home and get ready for bed and figured that Kennedy's mom and dad were missing her. Brody did not like the idea of her leaving us. He begged her to come to our house and for her to stay the night. This is the conversation they had with each other about this idea...

B: "Come stay the night with me"

K: "But where would I sleep"

B: "You can sleep in my bed"

K: "But where will you sleep"

B: "I will sleep in my bed too"

K: "But I don't have my pull-up"

B: "You can borrow one of mine"

K: "Ok. That will be good"

Needless to say....Kennedy did not get to stay the night with us!

Brody Turns 4 and Tailgating Sooners

Wow! We had a busy weekend. After having Bunco at my house Thursday night we then had Brody's birthday party on Saturday night and tailgating on Saturday afternoon. We are still trying to recover, but it was a blast!
First thing Saturday morning Brody went on a scavenger hunt to find his presents from us. He was so cute...he thought the monster truck was the only present he was getting! The hunt ended with a big surprise....a trampoline in his backyard. If I was smart enough to put the video on here of his reaction I would....it was Priceless! Totally worth Bryson staying up till 2:30 a.m. to put it together for him!
We were then off to the tailgate. Here is Rikki with Cooper and Allison. It was Cooper's first birthday!

Meg and Brody in their Tailgating Sooners shirts!

Matt and Bryson. So many funny things that could be said about this picture!

Cousin Hannah stopped by the tailgate with Meg. Of course Meg was thrilled to see her (as was I). They were also nice enough to take Meg home so I got to spend a little bit of time with just Brody!

Some of the 1998 Beta Pledge Class

6 of the 8 kids. We sure did miss Sterling #2 and Hudson #7. I think Brody especially missed Sterling. He seemed annoyed that he was having to take pictures with all of these babies.

I love this picture. Meg and Sally look like they are ganging up on Avery and Cooper and Brody are just looking at the girls like they are crazy!

Poor Sally just couldn't take it anymore. And poor Avery couldn't get Meg to leave her alone.

I know this picture is upside down but my computer is giving me fits. I love this of Annie and Brody. Her and Andrew were sweet enough to stop by with a present for Brody. He spent most of the time hiding from her (his way of flirting) and at the very end gave her a big hug and juicy kiss on the lips. Probably more than Annie bargained for. And yes, Brody picked out his shoes for the day!
With his monster truck cupcake cake. No one else really got to eat it because Brody drove the monster truck through the icing and then would lick the tires and then do it again. Oh well...he's the birthday boy!

Miss Meg at the party
Playing swords on a trampoline surely is a good idea

Katy and Finley
Brody's girlfriend Kennedy and his cousin Huston

Before the chaos
Bryson came up with a terrific way to do the pinata. I just don't know how he even comes up with these ideas!
He LOVEd his cake and his birthday hat
He thought really hard about blowing out those candles

Busy Bee and Watching TV

I am very happy to have my camera back after my dad needed it for a couple of weeks. Miss Meg has decided to be a big girl lately and do what seems like a million new things. She has been crawling for the last couple of weeks and just yesterday went from a laying down position to a sitting position and when I went to get her out of bed this morning she was standing up. I think all of these exciting achievements have made her exhausted. She was so tired today!!!
Nothing is out of her reach now

This girl loves her some Baby Einstein

Her great grandparents sure do love her

More TV watching. I promise I dodn't let her do this too often. And I swear Brody does wear clothes (sometimes).

The Fun of Being #2

I have started to realize lately that being the second child certainly has some perks. For starters we are more laid back and what kid wouldn't enjoy that? Below are some pictures that display the perks of being the baby of the family (plus some other random pictures).......
Cartoon watching at 7 months! Brody didn't watch TV until after he was two. Part of that was because he could've cared less, but part of it is that I didn't have cartoons on. Meg on the other hand is already a fan of Wow Wow Wubbzy!

Meg gets a lot more pictures taken of her then Brody did.

She has a cool big brother who takes great care of her and makes sure we do the same. Plus she gets to watch him do all sorts of cool stuff! Constant entertainment.

More people to focus their attention on her

She gets to play with toys that she would've never played with if she was the first. Who knew a 7 month old girl could love a barn so much. Notice that she is doing her push ups!

Celebrating my 28th birthday with a wonderful cake Bryson made me!

Wow....28 candles produce a lot of smoke!

Pulling up for the first time. This girl loves her kitchen. She worms her way over to it and just has a ball.

Seriously....this kid is hilarious!

Brody looks like she is really hurting him. Maybe that is why she has earned the nickname "Baby Big" by a little girl at Mother's Day Out.

And this is what she looked like last night. I would've never taken a picture of Brody sleeping out of fear of waking him up. Not this little one!
She looks like she is up to something
