New Moon

I don't know what it is about the Twilight series but I just can't get enough. I love the books and have read them several times (until these I never read a book more than once) and with the latest movie New Moon I decided to get tickets for a midnight showing.

I took my friend Barbara and coerced another friend Nan to join us. It's a good thing I got my tickets so early (two months early) because they ended up selling out. We weren't sure how early to get there to get a good seat but none of us were willing to camp out in line for more than an hour. We decided to arrive around ten o'clock and hang out a Barnes & Nobel until it was time to go in. We had no idea there would already be so many people lined up that early. We didn't even get to go to B&N because when we got there the line was already wrapped around the building, we decided to just suck it up and get in line. We still ended up being the last people in line for our theater though. Did I mention is was really, really cold that night? Thank goodness the theater took pity on us and let us in an hour early.

Nan brought her Tiny Edward doll with her. He lives on her desk at work, she photographed him in all kinds of funny places and wrote all about it here. She is so funny and clever to come up with such a cute idea.

I had a great time seeing the movie with so many Twilight fans. I didn't get to bed until 3:30 a.m. though and had to get up to go to work the next day (next time I am definitely taking the day off). I had a serious New Moon hangover the next day and by 1:00 I was a total zombie and in serious need of a nap, which is exactly what I did when I got home from work. I was back to myself after a good 3 hour nap.

Looking forward to the release of Eclipse now, only 212 days to go.

Halloween 2009

Halloween this year was all about Star Wars. Ryan is completely obsessed with The Clone Wars and decided to be Commander Cody. Us older folks who grew up with the original Star Wars movies (Ryan calls them the 80's Star Wars) can't distinguish between Storm Troopers and Clone Troopers. Ryan was quite annoyed when we went trick or treating and people kept calling him a Storm Trooper.

When Ryan told me he wanted to be a Star Wars character I went online and looked to see what I could dress Max up as to match. When I saw this Yoda costume I couldn't resist. Especially since Max really does kind of look like Yoda already. We took him trick or treating with us and he was quite a hit in the neighborhood. He couldn't walk very well in the costume so Rob had to carry him the whole time. He did really well though, he just sat in Rob's arms and looked around at everyone. When we got home he sat on the porch while we handed out candy.

I Skipped Summer but Stay Tuned for Fall

As you may have noticed, I haven't blogged anything this Summer. We've hardly done anything of interest to tell about. I've just been trying to make it though all the heat waves we've had by pretty much just sitting in front of a fan all day.

I am so looking forward to cooler weather and this.

and things like this

Stay tuned, I will be back to share our Fall activities as soon at it cools down enough for me to go outside and do stuff again.

Nature Shots

Last weekend we went to the Fullerton Arboretum for the first time. Since Rob has mastered how to keep the lawn green and has started to be more interested in flowers and plants I thought he would like it.  I'm really not one that enjoys being in nature so I was quite surprised that we had such a good time.  We didn't get to see everything so we will definitely have to go again.  I don't know how I did it but I got some very good nature shots.

Ryan thought he was being all stealth trying to sneak up on these poor ducks.

They have a bunch of these rusty little wagons to use at the Potting Shed to load the plants you are buying.

I'm so proud of myself, yesterday I was just standing on my front porch looking out and noticed this bird that landed on the palm tree in front of our house.  I called Rob to come see and asked him if it was a hawk, he agreed and told me to run and get my camera.  He was still there when I came back out and I got these pictures of it.  I looked him up later and found out it was a Red Shouldered Hawk.

Call Me Cupcake

We celebrated my 38th birthday last Wednesday.  Time goes by so fast, I can't believe I'm almost knocking on 40s door.  There's still so many things on my list of things to do before I turn 40.  Every year that passes I have to add 10 pounds to the weight I need to lose;  I haven't made it to Hawaii, New York or Europe yet; I haven't learned to surf or scuba dive (these two were contingent on loosing the weight of course).  One thing on my list I know I will do though is get a cupcake tattooed somewhere on my body (as soon as I decide for sure where to put it I think I will go ahead and do it, I'm still not sure if I want it to be seen or hidden).

My friend Barbara surprised me at work and dropped off a whole dozen Sprinkles cupcakes. There was quite a sensation over these a few years ago when Oprah declared them one of her favorite things but I had never had them before.  I must say I'm not so sure I liked these high priced modern sophisticated versions of cupcakes, I like mine better.  I was quite greedy with them and would only share half cupcakes because I wanted to try all the flavors.  Of all the flavors I had I think the Lemon Coconut was my favorite, followed by Vanilla and Vanilla Milk Chocolate.

Yum! I suppose these aren't so good for weight loss.

My friends at work had a pizza lunch for me (they know me so well, after cake pizza is my next favorite food) and I got a variety of cupcake themed gifts from them.  Rob, Ryan and I went to Chili's for dinner that night.  Considering I am not happy being so close to forty and would prefer to just skip the birthdays now, it was a good day.

Shane was working as stage manager on a show at school so he missed out on my birthday celebration and isn't in any of my pictures.  Since he is hardly ever home any more and is rarely with us on any family outings I'm just going to post this cute picture of him I took one morning on his way out to go to school.  I thought he looked really nice so I ran outside in my pj's to wait for him to come out to take the picture.  By the way, he thinks I'm a total dork (I guess that could be why he never wants to go anywhere with us).

Catching up

I don't know what my problem is.  I just haven't taken many pictures lately and haven't felt like blogging so I'll just catch up a little in this one post.

We went to Big Bear again last month right before Spring Break.  Sadly, the snow was gone, such a difference since our last trip.  We spent the whole weekend just hanging out together with our friends Brian and Dani and their kids.   Good times!

I have no idea why Ryan asked Shane to teach him how to play chess (he doesn't have much patience  for board games) but this is what they looked like about three minutes later when Ryan decided to do some kind of wrestling move and jumped on Shane's head.

One of our neighbors must have shared a piece of toast with this squirrel and he decided to enjoy it on our patio table.

I never really left the room that weekend and had a nice time watching movies and cooking dinner for everyone. I took this picture when the boys went out for a walk, I can't believe just a few weeks before this picture that the lake was frozen.

On Sunday before we drove back home we all went bowling.  Ryan had a great time, I think this was only the second time he'd been bowling.  Shane and I didn't have such a good game, Wii bowling is so much easier.

Easter 2009

Ryan while I was trying to help him decorate eggs: "Mommy, I know, I know, just let me do it."

Everyone came over for Easter and I told everyone to bring something to throw on the grill.   It was a beautiful day and nice to spend time with my family.  Besides our normal Easter egg hunt my sister Briana came up with a cute scavenger hunt for the kids to do.  She made really cute numbered tags with one color for each child.  They can't read yet so she drew pictures of the clues.
It was fun watching them run all over to get to the next clue.

This past weekend was National Scrapbooking Day.  There was a three day event at the Newport Beach Hyatt that I wasn't able to attend, but my friends Nan and Sarah went to the event.  Sarah came all the way from England for it.  I took the off of work on Thursday to spend the day with them taking Sarah to all of our local scrapbooking  and craft stores.  We went to eight different stores and had lunch together, it was so nice to catch up with them.  I hadn't seen Sarah since last March when we all met at a scrapbooking event in Chicago.

Cupcakes make everything better

We had everyone over for dinner on Sunday to celebrate my sister Koren's birthday.  I made these cupcakes for her.  They were so good, I want to make more but I'm the only one here who likes chocolate.

I was such a nice day.  The kids all got along and played nicely together and the guys stayed busy playing Wii.  After dinner my other sister Briana broke out her craft bag and whipped up this cute felt flower for her hair.  I was quite impressed, I wish I had some hair to wear one of these in.
