Kallen makes me laugh

Here's a dialouge Kallen and I had a few weeks back while we were walking down our apartment's steps to our car.  I didn't want to forget about it, so I'm posting it.  Maybe you all will think its cute too.

Kallen:  "Look a rhine tree"
Mommy: "What?"
Kallen: "a rhine tree, see?"
Mommy: "Kallen I don't know what you are talking about.  What is a rhine tree?"
Kallen: "rhine tree"... then he points to some pine cones that are outside our neighbors apartment.
Mommy: "Oh, do you mean a pine cone?"
Kallen: "yes, a rhine tree" with a smile.
Mommy:  "Kallen its called a PINE CONE, not a rhine tree.  Say Pine...Cone." I'm emphasizing the P and C.
Kallen:  "okay, rhine tree."
Mommy: "Kallen you didn't say that correctly at all.  It's a Pine Cone..Pine Cone."
Kallen: "yep, a rhine tree...I so smart."

Kallen loves to tell us that he is "so smart" all the time.  Silly bug.

My Boys

Here are my Boys.  I love them all very much.

Sorry it has been so long since I've posted anything.  I'm trying to catch up.  For now, enjoy the following posts.  More will come soon.

Weston and Daddy checking each other out.

Weston's Blessing

We gave Weston James his blessing on April 4th at home here in Olympia.  He got to wear the same outfit Kallen wore, which my Mom made for them.  It is so cute, I wish I had some better pictures of it to show it off.  I wasn't able to take many pictures because Weston was in a very, very bad mood.  In fact, he screamed at the top of his lungs the entire time while Tyson gave him his blessing. This was pretty shocking because Wes is such a mild kid.

After the blessing, he was still in a cranky mood and didn't want to take any pictures...and I mean any!  Poor kid.  I think we just timed his blessing poorly because it fell right around his nap time.  However, we didn't have much of a choice, because we did it between conference sessions.  Oh well, at least I got a few pictures.

Even though he was grumpy, he did give a few smiles.  He is such a precious little boy.  He loves to give us these big open mouthed smiles.

Of course, Grandpa Hill was able to make him smile.  No kid can resist smiling when Grandpa Hill is around.

Easter...Only 2 Months Late

For Easter we went down and visited Grandma and Grandpa Hill.  We started off decorating Easter Eggs.  I was surprised that Kallen really enjoyed this.  I didn't think he would, but he loved it and probably could have decorated dozens and dozens of eggs if we let him.

Hi favorite color was blue...but if there had been a green dye, he probably would have loved that one even more.  Green is his favorite color.

Some of the finished product.
Besides dying eggs, what else is necessary at Easter?  To take pictures of your Easter clothes of course. Neither Kallen or Weston were very good models.  They didn't want to take pictures at all, which is why you see these sullen faces instead of happy smiling faces.  I think I might need to start bribing them to smile from now on.  I always thought it was funny when my sister-in-law Christy would bribe her kids with candy in order for them to smile in pictures.  Now i get it.  I'm not above bribing...nope.

The brothers regard each other.

We were lucky to have most of Tyson's family down there at Easter.  So the cousins all got to take a picture together.  Well,at least the cousins that are all babies.  This is Gavin, Emily and Weston (the used car salesman).  They are all a month apart--Emily being the oldest.  Don't they all look so cute?  I'm glad that at least Emily decided to smile.  I think this picture is so funny, Wes is so huge compared to the others.  I think he could eat the other two in a second.

Ahhh...now the loot.  I got a little carried away with Easter this year and kept buying the boys stuff.  I couldn't help it.  Kallen loves play doh now, so I got him a set with a Mr. Potato Head. He also got some more Thomas the Train track...because you can never have enough.  Some more coloring paper and coloring books for his Magic Markers, a new puppy, Resurrection Eggs (These are pretty cool.  You should check them out for an Easter FHE), and some other random little stuff.  Weston got a monkey, some teething rings and some bubbles.  These boys scored!

Of course the first thing Kallen went for is the chocolate.  The kid absolutely loves chocolate now and asks for it all the time.  His favorite is Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, which is bad, because those are my favorite too.  Now I have to share them with him.

Kallen also got to do an Easter Egg hunt down there, but he didn't get into it that much.  He had more fun just playing outside.  I had to struggle to even get him to notice the multi-colored eggs lying around.  Oh well...maybe next year.

From Kallen's perspecitve:  "Okay Mom, I found some eggs...now take your silly picture.  Can I go play now?"

"Let's put all the eggs in a small pile on the grass.  Yep...that is fun."

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter.  We had a lot of fun!

Crazy Hair

This is our son Kallen...he has some long crazy hair.

Well, actually he had long crazy hair about 3 months ago, but I never got around to posting these and I had to because I thought they were so funny.  I don't think Kallen thinks much of his crazy hair either.
But he is much better now because he got a haircut.  However, now that it has been 3 months, I think he needs another haircut.

Hi Everyone.  Sorry I haven't posted for 2 months, but I will soon.  I just need to get our pictures downloaded.  In the mean time, you can enjoy this video.  Kallen and I have really enjoyed this music video by Jon Schmidt, so we thought you would too.  Kallen loves it and keeps asking, "last time, last time".  We've already seen it 4 times this morning.  He thinks the Piano is singing.

Weston Update

Weston is now over 2 months old.  Where did those two months go?  With Kallen I felt like each day just dragged by at the beginning, but with Weston they've flown.  It still seems weird for me to think that I'm a mother of two boys now.  Sometimes when I sit back and think about life, I realize that at times, I still think of myself as this young college student who doesn't have any responsiblities...and definitely no kids.  So it seems weird to think that I have two kids. Then again, when I think about life without them it seems even weirder.  It's crazy to think that two months ago, there wasn't a Weston in our lives.  Funny how short two months can seem, but at the same time how long it can be too.  I can't imagine our lives without Weston anymore.  It is almost as if we've always had him with us.  In just a short two months, this little boy has definitely become part of our family and I love him very much.

Okay, now for the updates:  I took Weston to his two-month appointment last week and the doctor thought he was looking at a 6-month-old.  He joked at how crazy it was that Weston doubled his weight since birth...from 8 pounds to 16 pounds!  Can you imagine doubling your weight in only two months?  He also said that since Weston was so large, its obvious that he isn't needing tons of food, so he told me that we could start to try and have him sleep through the night.  Crazy huh?  I kind of feel bad making the poor kid cry it out at 2-months-old, so we decided to drop his feeding at 2:00 and see if he would go to bed a little earlier.  Then we could slowly try to get him to drop his last feeding.  So far, it has been going pretty good.  He goes to bed by 9:30 or 10:00 now and usually only wakes up around 3:30 or 4:00.  And the good news is, last night the little guy slept until 5:45!  Can you believe it?  I kept waking up every half an hour thinking he'd be waking up, but he just kept sleeping.   I'm really hoping this will be a common routine of his and not just a one-time fluke.

Our little Chunky Monkey is so large!  Like I said, they weighed him and he was over 16 pounds and 4 ounces.  He wasn't even on the charts but hovering far above the 100 % line.  So silly.  The good news is his head and height are pretty standard...well, they are in the 90th percentile, but that is better than his weight.  I figure just like Kallen, the little guy will continue to be chunky for the first year and then just stop gaining any weight the following year. I was curious to see how Weston compared to Kallen at this age, so I looked up Kallen's weight at 2 months.  He only weighed 14 pounds, so Weston is even bigger than Kallen was.  Crazy little monkey.

Little Wes has also been smiling for the past month, but I've never been able to get a picture of him.  So today, while Tyson was home for lunch, I got some.  Weston loves to smile for his Daddy.

He has also discovered his hands this past week.  I don't know if he realizes they are hands, but he has started chewing on them.  I think its pretty cute.

A picture of his chunkiness in all his 16 pound glory.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Did any of you know that March 2nd is Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss'sBirthday?

I always thought that it would be cool to be the type of Mom who celebrates crazy holiday's with her kids.  And isn't this the perfect holiday?  I love to read, and so does Kallen. Perfect.  Plus, Kallen loves his Dr. Seuss books, so maybe we'll read some of his favorites today.

I also think it would be fun to do some special Dr. Seuss activites with him and also have fun with dinner tonight.

I'm thinking Green Eggs and Ham...then again, we might just have green eggs and no ham.  I don't really like Ham very much and second...we don't have any Ham right now.  So we'll just be sticking to the green eggs.  Sounds kind of fun though huh?

A great website that I found is www.seussville.com.  There are all sorts of things to do.  Just go to the Playground section.  I think the activity book you can print off seems super cool.  Kallen is too little to get a lot out of it, but I figure he'll like looking at it and coloring some of the pages anyway.  So we'll be doing that later.

I hope you all can get in the spirit of Dr. Seuss.  Go and have some fun!

Some New Pictures of Weston

I didn't have any new pictures of Weston up, so I thought I'd post some.  Look at what a little chunk he has become!  He is now only 8 weeks old, and weighs over 13 pounds.  I think he stores all those pounds in his cheeks.  What do you think?

He is getting so big and strong.  He now can hold up his head like a pro.

Snugging with Daddy.
He has started smiling during the past 2 weeks, however, I can never get him to smile when I try to take a picture.  This was as close as I could get.

The Joys of Having a Two-Year-Old

It is such a wonderful thing to have a two-year-old in the house.  Not only have the tantrums increased and Kallen's use of the word "no" and "bye bye", but our little toddler has also increased the amount of messes he makes around the house.  For instance.  Check out the pictures below.

Can you tell what this picture is of?  No?  Well, it is a picture of our laundry closet's door. Kallen has so craftily put his own mark on the doors with a blue coloring crayon.
Here he is with a big cheesy smile on his face.  He was so proud of his artwork.
I thought it was pretty cute too, until I tried washing the stuff off and realized that crayons don't come off walls or doors very easily.  Hmmm, now I understand why this a bad thing. Well...I guess we won't be getting back our deposit when we move.  Let's hope they don't notice.  :)

Here is another example of the messes Kallen has been making lately.  I should have known the little guy was up to something when I couldn't hear him for a few minutes.  That always means he's up to something he shouldn't be.

At least all that toilet paper didn't go to waste.  We've all had colds for a few weeks now, so Kallen decided to use the extra toilet paper to blow his nose. Silly squirt.

Tyson's Officially A Lawyer

I was looking through some of our old pictures today, and realized that I never posted these from Tyson's swearing in.  He is now officially a lawyer in the state of Washington.  He was sworn in on November 6th, 2008.

I'm so proud of him.  He has done so much to get to where he is today.  He worked hard to get into law school at UW and did great these past three years.  He then studied super hard to pass the Washington State Bar.  Now he is a clerk at the Washington State Supreme Court and loves who he works with and what he does.

It was a very special day when Kallen and I got to attend his swearing in at the Washington State Supreme Court.  It was nice because the swearing in was just for the law clerks at the court and a few other special people related to some of the Justices.  It was also very nice to hear his Judge, Justice Johnson, say a few words about him and all that he has accomplished.

Here he is getting sworn in by the Chief Justice.  He's in the middle in the back row.  Sorry the pictures are blurry and a bit dark.  I was stuck way in the back row of the courtroom and my camera doesn't have a great zoom.

This is Justice Johnson introducing Tyson to everyone.

I wanted to include a picture of our State's Capital and the Temple of Justice, so you all know where this took place and where Tyson works.  I think that they are both pretty cool looking buildings.  Don't you think?

Here is Tyson with his Judge, Justice Jim Johnson, after the ceremony.

Here we are...Me, Kallen and Tyson.

And here is Kallen hanging out at the court.  He was such a good little trooper through the whole thing and stayed very quiet.  I think he was the only little squirt there...so you can imagine how quiet it was.

Christmas and Snow

These are kind of old, but I wanted to make our Christmas post and snow post anyway.

Since I was due with Weston around Christmas, we decided not to go too far, but still went up to my parents for Christmas since it is only an hour away.  It was a good thing too, because as you all know, that is where we ended up having Weston.

This December was filled with snow too, so Christmas was even more special because of it.  We got two feet down in Olympia and Kallen loved every moment of it.  Every day, he would say "snow, snow" over and over until we would bundle him all up and take him out.  He wouldn't
actually play in the snow, but he loved taking walks out in it.

This picture makes me laugh, because he looks so miserable...but he actually wasn't.  He locd being out there the whole time...even when he got soaked through and got cold from being out in the snow, he never wanted to come in and he would cry anytime we made him come inside. He just loves the white stuff.  In fact, even though the snow is all gone now, he still mentions it to me.These are from Christmas.  The pictures aren't great, but they do show the snow outside and all the presents we got.  I loved that it was snowing on Christmas.  We don't get that a lot up here in Washington and it made it so much fun.
Kallen got a rocking chair from Grandma and Grandpa and he loved finding it on Christmas morning.  It was pretty much the only gift he paid any attention to that morning.  I was hoping that this year Kallen would enjoy getting his presents more...however, that still was a bust. His favorite thing to do was play with the ribbons from all the gifts.  What a silly kid.  I'm hoping next year he will enjoy what is in the ribbons and paper and not just the packaging.

Weston James is here!

Sorry that it has taken me so long to post any pictures of our new little boy.  However, I've been tired...as you all can imagine, and I just haven't gotten around to it.  Well, here is baby Weston's story:

Tyson and I were originally planning on having Weston induced on Dec. 29th here in Olympia...that is, if Weston hadn't come by then.  (I technically wasn't due until the 31st.) But due to the big pile of snow we got about a week ago, my doctor's office cancelled my last appointment, which in turn made them unable to schedule the inducement we had all planned on.  They also had no idea when I might be able to get into their office to see anyone because the weather was so bad...we got almost 2 feet of snow...which is a lot for Washington.  Since it was only 3 days before Christmas, and since we had already planned on going up to spend Christmas with my parents, we decided to just have the baby up there in Bellevue.  (That is where I had Kallen anyway.)  I called my previous doctor in Bellevue, and he was happy to see me the next day and also deliver the baby that week. Hurray!  So off we went to Bellevue.

The appointment went good and my doctor thought Weston could come any day, however, he said we could schedule an inducement on Sunday, just in case.  Well, Saturday night came around and still no Weston.  So I thought, "hey this kid is going to make his inducement date". You might wonder why this shocked me, well its because everyone kept saying Weston would come any day and he didn't.  Also, Kallen was almost 2 weeks early and so I thought Weston would be too.  And lastly, Kallen was scheduled to be induced on a Friday and then decided to come the day before.  I just figured that both of my boys would find it funny to come earlier than they were suppose to.  Well, as I said, I thought Weston was actually going to wait and be induced since he hadn't come yet.  But...he didn't.  I was suppose to call the hospital on Sunday morning around 6:00 am.  At 5:00 am my water broke.  Silly kid.  I think it is so funny that both of my boys would not wait for their inducements.  Kallen was a day early and Weston was an hour early.  Anyway, It turns out that it was a good thing he came on his own time, because the hospital was filling up and they were going to postpone my inducement.

We got to the hospital around 7:30 am, by 8:00 am I was all changed and bunked up in my hospital room.  By 8:30 am I was starting to ask about an epidural because the pain was getting more intense...and I'm a total wimp.  Turns out that they had 4 C-sections planned at the same time that day, so my nurse didn't know when I would be able to get my epidural.  Bad news!  I did not want to hear that. My nurse, Mary,  turned out to be wonderful though, she made sure that I was next in line after the first C-section finished and even wouldn't budge my place in line when another nurse tried to bump me for her patient.  Yes!  Way to be tough nurse Mary. Anyway, I was definitely ready for my epidural when the Anesthesiologist came around just after 9:00 am.  I felt a rush of relief.  Now the bad news.  She couldn't get my epidural to work and tried for almost 2 hours!  During all this time i was dying from my contractions...remember I'm a wimp.  Finally, she gave up and had to ask another doctor to come and do it who was on call. For a little while, I was really afraid I wouldn't get an epidural and I just didn't know if I could do that.  Tenay was not made for natural birth!  Fortunately, the second doctor was able to make it work in a matter of minutes.  Hurray again!  Now I thought I would finally get to rest, because I was soooo tired.  However, I was wrong again.  As soon as I got my epidural, the nurse said, "wow...you are already at a 9.5/10...so we'll need to have you push now".  What!  All I wanted was to take a little nap for an hour or two and then push.  But that wasn't the case.  By 11:20 am our sweet little Weston was here.  He weighed just a little more than Kallen did at 8 pounds 14 ounces and he was 2o 1/2 inches long.  And that is how Weston came to be on December 28th, 2008.

Now for some pictures.  While I was downloading our pictures from our camera, I noticed we really didn't have many good ones of Weston in the hospital.  So most of these pictures are of him the first week he was home.

Weston's first bath.  I wish I had pictures of Kallen's first bath on this computer, because I'd love to compare them.  I think these two boys actually look very similar!
