I miss being a sand mermaid

Today is the First Day of Work. Sigh. I dont know what else to say. The free-spiritedness has evaporated completely. We were warned to not take longer than 10mins making coffee. We were warned not to come to work late, not to come back from lunch late. We were warned about disciplinary issues like handphone & mp3 player usage. All these still seemed pretty reasonable. Until they told us they do OT until 9+/10pm everyday. Toilet breaks are rare & infrequently, with the exception of yours truly. No one leaves the office at 6.15pm, with the exception of yours truly. Sigh. I think i'll just start to grow roots into my chair, let my butt melt into the synthetic fibres and then rot in my chair a while after. The work i do is mind-numbing, but weirdly exhausting, considering the fact that there was hardly any physical movement involved. That all I'm gonna say. :(

Nevermind, my week was better spent at SENTOSA with my R85peeps on Wednesday. It was a good break. I hardly thought of anything that was more than 10mins away from the present moment. We were living each minute as it is. I felt liberated and carefree, with great company without any worries of others perception or any other kind of obligations. I love these people. I am so so so thankful for them in SMU. Really. From the bottom of my heart!

First few photo-whoring with Karene!

Candice & me on our romantic boat ride.
The guys shoved us into the sea actually.
Anyway, while we were floating around aimlessly,
some photographer actually took pictures of the guys.
(makes a face)

Here's the SANDMAN! HAhaha.
Um I gave up trying to bury him.

Guys always try to relive their childhood.
So Andrew & Shun are trying to build SANDCASTLES.
Hmmmm.

Operation Sand Mermaid starts now!

Hahaha. I have a grossly fat fishtail!
Thanks to my noob sculptors felix & justin.

So it kinda failed, & they tried to change it into a BIG FISH attempting to swallow me.

Alright more group pictures filled with smiley faces!

We were truly this happy. Haha, HONEST!

Nice picture in the sunset.
Thats Shun, Candice & Myself.

All outings seem to have pictures like this.
Cindy is always victimised. Hahaha.
Hey, but she wasnt the only one.
I became her substitute- they capsized my boat!

Boys & girls of summer has gone home.
At least to get cleaned up for dinner.

After the sun, sea & sand, we got ourselves nicely showered to head for dinner.
Group photo outside SakaeSushi.

This part of sentosa was really pretty.
We loved the alternating multi-coloured blinking lights on the floor.
What do you think we did?

SAY CHEESE! Hahaha.
FYI, we took about 300++++++ pictures (excluding camera-phone ones.)
The cams batteries all died by Wednesday late night.

Andrew(above) & Felix(probably the photographer, haha,) are my work buddies now.
Lets hang in there! (I'm telling myself that, more like it. Shun cheat us loh.)

I'm too lazy for anymore captions.
Short & sweet-
Thanks for the memories. :)
(including Zhihao who came late, our Emo session was worth it.)

P.S. Maybe I'll post the sparklers/rocket launch pics later. hurhur.

I'm tagged!

RULES: Each person who gets tagged needs to write a blog post of their own 6 idiosyncrasies as well as clearly state this rule.after stating your 6 weirdness you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names at the bottom of the entry. dont forget to leave a comment on their tagboards that says “you’re tagged!” and tell them to read your blog for information as to what it means.
btw, idiosyncrasy means:-a characteristic, habit, mannerism, or the like, that is peculiar to an individual.

Err. Alright, thanks Elvin (my sista-in-crime)! Hehehe. Here goes...
  1. I'm a closet naturalist, meaning I like to sleep/walk around the house naked. Haha. (Please dont sue me for indecent exposure...)
  2. I sound like a tortured puppy during poledance lessons because I am in PAIN. It fully explains my pitiful whimperings.
  3. I can't sit still for long- When i sit on the floor, I'll start to rock back & forth after 5mins. This annoys Wanhua immensely. Haha.
  4. I'm another closet auntie. I'll notice & cut out most coupons which I think I might use. They come in useful sometimes, but most of the times, they end up getting thrown out after the expiry date.
  5. I always look up at the sky and observe the colour of the sky, the clouds or the shape of the moon or even the count the stars when i go home at night. (I like to sing aloud with my headphones plugged in, if i think im walking back alone, haha.)
  6. I like to wear skirts because its the easiest piece of clothing to take off. Hahahaa.
Yeah yeah, I know you think I'm mega-uber weird already. Tell that to my friends, as if they dont know that yet. Hahaha. So now, I wanna tag:
  1. Sweeeeennyyy
  2. Cindy
  3. Candice
  4. Young
  5. Sally
  6. Madeline
P.S. While TheElvin looks like RAIN(in his words), I'm a newly minted almost-blonde! I have chestnut hair with copper-blonde patches. I look like a JAPANESE. But my brother says I look like a lion. Thanks man.

Downtown global stints

My Salsa - Sistas & Bradda.

After all that late nights, I've got an unhappy throat. Bleahs. But anyway, my Saturday afternoon was really lazy. I just stayed at home, whining on MSN about the dreadful weather. After which i proceeded to my Pole Improvers Course. I'm proud to say that I've master the basic invert already. FINALLY!!! The sense of achievement & triumph made me quite happy for the rest of the evening. After the torturous class which made us climb & pose & swing, (I'm aching all over today, ooh & i found a few bruises too. haha), Norman, Rach & Widah picked me up and we went for dinner at Sofra Turkish Restaurant at Shaw Tower. It was nice & as usual I overate!

Red Lentil Soup with a piece of Turkish bread.
Enjoy it because it was so warm and comforting on a wet Saturday evening.
In the background, you'll see my Turkish Tea (which tastes like Lipton tea)
I like the curved glass and the sugar cube which came with it.

Some vegetarian pide thing which was yummy as well.

Our kebab platter. It was really filling!
MEAT, MEAT & MORE MEAT.
Not my kinda of thing, but it was pleasant enough for me to like it.

One of their traditional deserts which taste like a super THICK & CREAMY chingteng.

A super SWEET rice pudding.
But i managed to ignore the sweetness and loved the taste of it.

Tadah! You see, I'm a self-proclaimed social anthropologist.
This is why I'm here on a stakeout to the infamous Thai Disco at Golden Mile Complex. Haha.
You have to brave the snaking, dark & cramped carpark, the wet & slippery tiled flooring and the bad odours from around dim corners.
Thankfully, we made it.
BUT, the stupid bouncer checked my ID. Haha. I guess i still look young(, when Im not all dressed up.)
Time to fake student concession fares this summer! Heheh.

It was pretty fascinating to see those Thai Singers and performers doing their thing. They are pretty good I must say. But I'm sure the main attractions are the Thai girls who are like the men's social escorts. Most of them are tall, slim and pretty. They can dance and they ooze sex appeal competently. But the men were pretty gross-looking. Middle-aged, unattractive and humsum looking. I wouldnt be able to tolerate dancing, touching, hugging or getting anything near these men who look like they are undressing the girls with their eyes all the time. There was this super hot girl who hopped unto the bar-top counter and danced so alluringly. Shes a natural performer. Well, the general conclusion i got is that, I really cant stand the men who are there. URGH, but other than that, I had fun because in between live performance sets, the DJ spins basically every genre of music. haha. So, i had my RnB & some dum & bass & techno to keep me happy for a bit. But it was a novel experience in a way, since its different from the usual club scene. You can feel the sleaze oozing from every pore of the place but its not to the point where u see undressed people. (You cant dance without having piercing eyes on you. :S) Overall, people (mix of locals and some Thais) are having fun(whatever sort of fun), but its still good clean fun from what Ive observed. Intriguing saturday night spent, but I wouldnt go back there again without older friends.

Friday is 11am to 3am.

Friday night was spent at Daphne's house.
Our mahjong outing turned into Jenga. Haha.
I've only got flattering shots for Irene & Jieyi!
The ones i took with Daphne were blurry and grainy. Oh wells.
Sorry for not posting them!
Jie yi can send me the group picture we took at Ms Clarity Cafe.
It was overwhelming crowded on a Friday night.
We had no idea.

Anyway, i thought i had a great time at Daph's place with the girls.
We had a blast bitching. Heheh.
But i guess the main thing was basically talking about life in SMU & life in general,
trading life stories and experiences.
One thing for sure, the 3 girls i was with were genuine people,
and they would be one of the last few people i'd want to upset.
I hope i never fall into the traps of being a despicable 2faced bitch/ a glorified SMU zombie which only aims to destroy all in your self-interest.
I doubt I will end up like that anyway.
I'm seriously too LAZY. hahaha.
Nevertheless, I want to thank you girls for your friendship.
And i know its true, not like so many superficial hi-bye acquaintances. :)

Well, I woke up early in the morning to attend school! Although, i swore off school on Wednesday 11 April 3.45pm. I know call me Loony (which a few did, haha.) I was on a serious Anthropology trip to (gasp) NUS! Wanhua was my trusty guide & she showed me around the school. I had my lunch at the Business Canteen. CANTEEN! Do u still remember Canteens? I dont, and the food were FREAKING CHEAP. Its half what we pay everyday for satisfying meal! Haha. Alright, enough ranting.

Overall, the facilities werent as cool as SMU of course, but it had some sort of charm to it I suppose. Prolly left over from the many many generations of NUS grads. Those peeling benches, the flooded walkways, the mouldy walls, the broken lights etc. These are the charming facets of an academic campus (in my humble opinion at least). NUS looks well lived in, to say the very least. I was walking around the Arts block, which was a fortunate thing I'm sure. Everyone was friendly and relaxed. I was glad to not see the UBER-MUGGERISM in the arts block. I also attended 2 lectures and they were super RELAXED compared to our torturous 3 hour long seminars. Of course if you must know, there was no participation involved in those massive lectures.

After mind-numbing lectures, we visited the Library. TADAH, thats the NU(s)ggers all are! Well, it IS the exam period. I will cut them some slack. But it reminded me so much of SMU. I got so turned off, I got out soon after. The irony is that i met almost all my old friends in the library! Hahaha. It must be a feat to have someone you havnt met in years, recognise your voice and then identify you. Hehehe. :) We should organise a get-together soon!

Here are some pictures I took, from the clubhouse area.
Its pretty in the Social Studies Textbook's photographs kinda way, dont you think?
Its a greenery (old majestic trees) + old concrete buildings composite.
The passing showers gave everything a nice sheen,
as well as adding a thin of veil of mist around the campus.
So, that concludes my NUS visit.

Freedom defies gravity. Summer enters eternity.

From SMU SESS NSR5.1
Now its time to bid those NSRs, SRs, GSRs farewell!
The gorgeous night views of the national museum...
(unfortunately) did little to make us feel better during the study week.
But here's a couple to show you the visual feast we have at SMU.

11th April, 8.40pm, Kuriya at Shaw Centre
I think the above tempura set is Elvin's.
OMG, though I'm nowhere near a sashimi fan,
this one converted me.
It was so fresh (no fishy smell/taste at all)!
The thick slice of salmon sashimi melts in your mouth,
& permeates into your tastebuds, then travels to the back of your throat.
Something near orgasmic. Hahaha. Are you jealous yet?

My paper steamboat. (I forgot the Jap name for it.)
Another pleasant surprise here because I dont really like prawns.
But these were really juicy and fresh.

My lovely rice with fried breaded chicken in a hot stone bowl.
Its similar to the Pepperlunch thingie.
I felt so princessy because the server mixed/cooked the rice,
and then served me in a small bowl.
I'm so touched.
Oh, the matcha green tea ice-cream was a nice end to the satisfying meal.
By the way, the service was meticulous.
They cleared the bowls quickly, sent the food about at almost the same time.
Made sure you had everything you need etc.
Thank you for the warm service. :)

These are all courtesy of Mark's Camera-phone yesterday night
Mark's dinner set. Looks appetising huh?

Mark's dinner set again, with Elvin's in the background.
I think that metal dish with the upright wooden handle is adorable.
Quite smart too since it makes for easy handling.

We tried to capture all 3 sets in a frame. Haha.
Plus, we even managed to squeeze in 2 cam whores too.
FYI, the Elvin was so brilliant to bring a camera without battery.

Zouk, Velvet Underground, 11pm thereabout
Choice of poison for the night.
It was damn good.
It felt good.
This is how life should be- LUXE, SMOOTH & BUBBLY.

I think Mark just discovered his Camera-Phone function.
Hence, the products of his trigger-happiness.
Haha, not that i mind!

Zouk, Mambo, 1+am
Alright, anyway we proceeded to Phuture at around 12+, almost 1am.
Not surprisingly, it was PACKED as usual. Darn it man.
So we headed to the main arena of Zouk to mambo.
However, the music sucked.
Then, we went back to Velvet to get more drinks
because CheeKiong & Mark werent high enough.
Elvin CMI already though. hahaha.
We were checking out the interesting framed Jap art on the walls.
They had like sinister looking mickey mouse & mushrooms with multiple eyes.
Go check it out yourself. And, no, I wasnt tipsy. Haha.
Oh, I met Jeremy(my long lost primary school friend) there too,
& he was so sweet, he brought me another glass of champagne!
Gosh, but i was too full from 2 glasses of champagne & 2 shot glasses earlier.
He showed me his 4 tattoos as well. Haha.
It'll be good to catch up with him soon, he seemed to have a lot of things to tell.

The Elvin being unusually aggressive.
I think hes trying to act cool only though.

I told you the guys went back for more drinks. Haha.

He looks high in every picture lah!
Why do you think he kept telling us that he stays at PANDAN GARDENS?

Last picture. :)
You're right, I'm enjoying myself. Haha.
Anyway after all that, Mark & Ck left earlier.
So i was left with Elvin & I had to drag him outtttttt after 5 songs.
He really relishes reliving the 80s era. Haha.
Anyway, we were to Tongshui cafe for supper...
And i got home at almost 5am.
Tiring but damn fulfilling night.
Freedom cant get better than this.
Summer reigns.
