Jake's first shower!!

His umbilical cord FINALLY fell off. He's a month old today- we thought that thing was on for life! We were just envisioning him going in for his mission physical with it still attached. Thank goodness that thing is finally gone! He looks so clean and cute wrapped up in his towel!

Grandpa and Grandma Hess Come to Visit

It's been fun to have Warren's parents here the past couple days. They got to meet Jake for the first time and the kids have had a great time playing with them. We're so glad they took the time out to come see us and see us in our new environment!

Little Rebel

Luke is our spit fire. He was obedient enough to go to bed (even if it mean knocking out on Cassidy's floor)- but he wasn't going to let us tell him where to go to bed. What a goose!

Rise N Shine Assembly

Cassidy's class did a skit for her morning assembly on Friday morning. Her class voted her to have a special part playing "the substitute teacher" (I think she had 3 lines or so), she was BEAMING! The video camera's battery died the second she was supposed to do her part- (sometimes technology can be so frustrating!) but here are some photos to capture the moment. It think the skit was a whole 3 minutes long- and it's been all she could talk about this whole week.

A thoughful jesture

The best kind of flowers are the unexpected ones. Warren and Cade came home with this beautiful fall bouquet for me this week. It really made my week!! I love getting flowers- especially from my boys. Everytime I pass them throughout the day it makes me smile!

Jammies

Sometimes the best moments are when we are just hanging around the house in our jammies.

Don't forget to register to vote!!!

We've been needing to re-register since we moved. Luckily, some girls were going around at the races with forms. How convenient!!!

The Balloon Races

Up and ready for Dawn patrol. We LEFT the house at 5:50am. Unfortunately it didn't happen. I guess the balloons couldn't do anything until they got some wind! Never heard of that problem before with Reno being ridiculously windy all the time.

First family photo with Baby Jake.
Notice Warren's pillow is a bag of bagels. :) Jake's eye looks WAY worse today. We took him into the doc since we couldn't even pry it open it was so swollen. I won't go into detail about what it looked like once we finally got the lid up a little. He's now got some antibiotic cream for the infection. Poor little guy.

Okay, so I was a little misinformed about the gravity of this race. I was under the impression it was one step up from the Reno Hot Air Balloon Races (which are amazing). Apparently not!! Yes, they charge, and there are TONS of people and parking lots surrounding the area- but they don't have near the balloons. But we still had a fun time going to see them take off. They had a fun variety of shapes and colors. We had a festive breakfast with donuts, hot chocolate, fruit, bagels, and OJ with our friends the Corbridges. It's always amazing to me to see the huge balloons inflate and watch the sky fill up. Can you imagine being the seamstress in charge of sewing these things together? You'd have to work on a football field! They have fireworks tonight- hopefully we can go up on a nearby hill and watch them from our car.

A Goopy Eye

I think the baby has the (all too common among Hess babies) goopy plugged eye duct. It's been oozing yucky yellow stuff all morning. It breaks your heart when they look at you with such a sad and confused expression with one eye open and the other crusted shut! :( Hang in there Jake!!

Cassidy the photographer

Everyone wanted a turn with the camera. Here is one Cass took of the boys and me.

Workin with Dad

Cade was really sad he didn't have preschool today and was instantly cheered when he could go to "work" with Dad. It's mostly an office day for Warren, but he does have to run a couple errands. You can see Luke waving goodbye enthusiastically- this lasted about 2 seconds until he realized he was going to be left behind.

Weird taste buds

I know our kids eat strange things sometimes, but carrots dipped in mint chocolate chip icecream?!!!

When Cinderella is away

Prince Charming gets to work. Luke is so fun how he runs to grab any kind of rag or dish towel when he sees me getting after the housework! What a great helper.

I love the fall!

Autumn is definitely my favorite season! It's so refreshing to have crisp air again after a hot and saturating summer. I need to get out my scarecrow for the front porch!!

Onions for lunch?

Cade was BEGGING me this morning to put ONIONS in his lunch for preschool. The green ones were getting a bit yucky, so I sliced up a red one for him. He was so excited! What preschooler in their right mind is insistent on onions at school?

Luke's Babies

Luke has been hilarious with the nurturing since Jake's been home. He's always kissing, sharing his lamby or getting his other babies to share with Jake. It's been pretty cute.

Okay so it wasn't so cute when Luke thought it would be funny to spit in Jake's ear- (hence the picture on our new time out spot- of Luke balling his eyes out) but it's been the first incident in 3 weeks. Not too bad....

Go Cougars!!

Jake enjoying the festivities
Luke wearing his Cougar attire- not in the mood for a photo shoot Victory Dance

We're all happy about our BYU Cougs big win against UCLA this weekend!!!

Sad our help is gone!!

I'm feeling pretty outnumbered this week. It was so nice having Warren off work for awhile and then my mom in town for a few days last week.

Thanks for coming, Mom!!

Remembering 9/11

We watched a documentary on the History Channel tonight with unseen footage from 9/11. It really brought me back to the feelings I had when I watched it all unfold on TV 7 years ago. (Can you believe it's been 7 years?!) Rewatching it this time seemed even more horrible after visiting NYC in October and seeing the mess that still is being cleaned up at Ground Zero, seeing the plaques of all the fire fighters who gave their lives, feeling the evil that these terrorists had in their hearts, having a sister who lives blocks from where the Twin Towers stood. I feel so blessed to live in America where I can be free. I'm grateful for the soldiers and other agents, etc. who are fighting this terror. God bless America.

Off to Preschool!!

Cade and I joined a few other moms to do a preschool co-op this school year. Cade is SO EXCITED. He watched out the window for 30 minutes for his friend to come pick him up this morning. He even has his lunch- YEAH! I'm glad he has something to do on his own a couple days a week. Luke's been enjoying his alone time with Daddy this morning, reading books and looking at birds in the backyard.

Snaggle Tooth

Snaggle tooth Snaggle tooth is OUT!
Luke wants to show his teeth, too!
Cade showing off his pearly whites
Keeping our teeth clean- (the boys were having a great time with this tooth photo shoot)

Cassidy has had this tooth dangling for WEEKS. I've been calling him "snaggle tooth" because he is just so yucky looking. It's been hanging lower than the other teeth- it looks so goofy. So finally last night we yanked him out! She lost one of her lower teeth the day before (the Tooth Fairy was NOT on the ball for Labor Day- we decided she must have been taking a holiday, too)- so she brought a surprise worthy of 2 teeth last night.

Jake's first outing to the park

A day out with the boys.
