Gobble, Gobble!

We had a fun day with our friends, the Corbridges, today. Since our family is far away- we are glad to have them invite us to join in with their family this Thanksgiving. We went over there to make these SUPER CUTE cupcakes! They are the place cards (name tags) for the Thanksgiving dinner table! Aren't they fun?! I think ours looked even better than the pic they came from. After our tasty treat, we headed over to the park, and then the movies for a little spontaneous fun. We saw Madagascar 2- the kids loved it. After dinner Kimble and Linda came over to spend some time with us- it is such a treat for us to have them in town! Our surrogate aunts and uncles for the holiday! We love having the Corbridges close. Thanks guys!

Jake's first encounter with the Meldrums

Jake was so excited to meet his new friend, just 2 weeks older than him, today. I guess he's going to be a social butterfly like Cade!

But Mom!

Today was the day! I made Cassidy tackle her bedroom. It's been out of control for a week (I know it looks like a YEAR with that mess!), but we've been so busy I haven't been strict about her daily chores. So, today I couldn't take it anymore! It took lots of coaxing, but it finally did end up clean. We ended up missing the puppet show at the library because I made her stay home and clean. What a mean mom, huh? Some day she'll thank me. :) At one point I asked her if she wanted to trade my jobs for hers. I said, "I am cleaning the rest of the house, would you rather switch the whole rest of the house for your one room?" She answered in the affirmative. I then began to explain everything that needed to be done in each room. She just looked at me and started crying, pouting back to her room. Aahh the joys!

I love colored leaves

Fall is my favorite season. I've probably blogged about this 5x now, but I just love it. This is the tree in front of our house. It isn't the grandest thing- but I love the leaves this time of year.

Mom O Rama Workout

I got these videos at the library on exercising with your baby/toddler. You use your child as the weight during the exercises. Their kids are like 6-9 months old on the video- here I'm working out with Cade and Luke. I should be BUFF after these workouts! :) I don't think they are both supposed to be sitting on me at the same time like this, but they sure have a fun time. Now anytime I get out a workout video Luke thinks it's time for him to exercise, too. Heaven help me! I'm just trying to lose weight!

I never tire of this...

Keep the smiles comin'!

A Twilight Night Out

I went with a bunch of friends on a much needed Girls Night Out to see "Twilight" this weekend. We joined the crowds of females young and old- mostly young- to enjoy the very hyped up movie. It was pretty much just as I expected. Not as good as the movie, but entertaining. I really enjoyed seeing what they did with the characters and different scenes. I won't add much more- I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet. What kick to watch it opening day with the audience in full participation! :)

Cade's First Report Card

For those of you who know Cade well- you probably won't be surprised one bit. Since this is hard to read- I'll sum it up. He got a "mastered" grade in following directions, completing tasks and participating in group activities- but a "progressing grade" in paying attention. The comments said, "Enjoys math time and puzzles." I would love to be a fly on the wall and see Cade in class. He loves his school so much- I'm so glad he's doing well!

Gratitude

I am grateful for good friends. I've had an exhausting couple of weeks. Out of the blue on Friday night a good friend brought over dinner for our family. It was delicious! We have eaten it for three meals and it has been so nice! I had another friend this week who took my kids for a little bit while I got out and went for a run. Thank you a million- you know who you are. I've been thinking about this quote a lot lately by George Elliot, "What do we live for, if it is not to make life less difficult for each other?" My friends have definitely done this for me- made my life less difficult. What a wonderful thing to do the week of Thanksgiving! May we all make life less difficult for those around us this Thanksgiving and Christmas season!!

Excerpt from a talk by President Hinckley in February of 1985 Ensign

“If you sometimes get discouraged, consider this fellow. He dropped out of grade school. Ran a country store. Went broke. Took 15 years to pay off his bills. Took a wife. Unhappy marriage. Ran for House. Lost twice. Ran for Senate. Lost twice. Delivered speech that became a classic. Audience indifferent. Attacked daily by the press and despised by half the country. Despite all this, imagine how many people all over the world have been inspired by this awkward, rumpled, brooding man who signed his name simply, A. Lincoln.” (Wall Street Journal.)
It is important to know, when you feel down, that many others do also and that their circumstances are generally much worse than yours. And it’s important to know that when one of us is down, it becomes the obligation of his friends to give him a lift. I hope that each of us will cultivate a sensitivity toward the feelings of others, and when encouragement is needed, make an effort to extend it. Be a friend, and you will have a friend. God be thanked for wonderful friends. There is also in our society a sad tendency among many of us to belittle ourselves. Other persons may appear to us to be sure of themselves, but the fact is that most of us have some feelings of inferiority. The important thing is not to talk to yourself about it. All of us cannot be tall, dark, and handsome. All of us cannot be trim of figure or have a beautiful face. The important thing is to make the best of all that we have. Don’t waste your time feeling sorry for yourself. Don’t belittle yourself. Never forget that you are a child of God. You have a divine birthright. Something of the very nature of God is within you.

Marvelous Maverick

We are so proud of Cassidy today. Her teacher emailed me this week to tell me Cass was receiving a special award at her school assembly today. It was to be a surprise and she wanted us to be there. So as soon as the carpool came to get her this morning, the boys and I loaded up and headed out the back door to hop in our car to make it on time. Cass was shocked! It was great! She didn't see us until she was on her way back to class despite our yelling and waving of hands. :) Her award says, "Cassidy is a Marvelous Maverick because she is polite and is always setting a good example for the students around her." She also came home with a glowing report card of all A's. Go Cass! Keep up the good work! Warren even joined us on his lunch break at the school where we all had lunch together. It's been a fun day.

Gearing up

I don't want to set my hopes too high- the movies are never as good as the books. But I am looking forward to a fun girls night out on Friday. I wish could say I'm die hard enough to go to the midnight showing on Thurs eve- not with a nursing baby! :) I value my sleep too much right now!

The slacker tooth fairy

Hopefully your tooth fairy isn't as scatterbrained as ours. Ours was very late in nabbing Cassidy's tooth in trade for some money. Poor Cass was very disappointed when she woke up in the morning to her tooth still sitting there! Luckily she came while Cassidy was in the shower- so Cass had a great surprise when she got out!

The Puppet Master

Cass has been quite the puppet maker this week. She decided it would be fun to make a whole bunch for Thanksgiving. She started with a turkey, then added a pilgrim, and indian and then a stalk of corn (hee hee!). Now she's started on Christmas puppets- unfortunately this pic doesn't capture the goatee Santa is sporting- made of cotton balls. :)

Fall is settling in!

This is my favorite time of year. It was so fun to get the fire going this weekend! It was crisp and cool outside. So festive- I love it!

Thank you, Warren

It was my birthday a couple weeks ago and I have to brag about my sweet husband fixing me breakfast! What a chef- scrambled eggs, chocolate chip pancakes, sausage and hot chocolate! He put a candle in my pancake and had the kids sing to me (we had cake the week before and had been eating it all week- I didn't need another one!) He is the best!

What did you do today?

Hopefully it was more fun than my day. I still had 3 loads to go when I was this far!

The stomach flu

Yuck. Combined with respiritory stuff- double yuck. All three of our boys. :( Thank goodness for wood floors. They are so much better to clean than carpet!

My favorite photographers

My sister is in NYC and has such neat photo ops!! This one leaves me nostalgic for our times in Chinatown. I came out of there with a great purse! :)

My sister in law has her own photography gig- she's so awesome- this is one of this unknown baby is too cute! She did a great job taking pics for my other sister in law's family. http://www.memoriesbymeganphoto.com/

I've also been impressed by my cousin's picture taking abilities- this one is one of my recent favorites. Don't you feel patriotic when you look at it? Here's a link to her site for more pics http://www.laniwilkinsonphotography.com/ Great pic, Lani! Why don't any of you live nearby?!! My kids would be great models... :)

Potty Training

I'm gearing up for training Luke. His diapers are getting way too potent and I know he could do it, if we can just convince him he wants to. We're going to start the Saturday before Thanksgiving, since I won't have to take kids to and from school and run around that week. He's my strongest willed of the 4- so any tips would be great. We tried it a few months ago and he screamed for 2 days straight. Also, any tips on uncontrollable screaming during the night would be much appreciated. He's gone from our best sleeper to our worst. How frustrating!!

A Happy Baby

Keep the smiles coming, Jake!

I never tire of seeing Luke as Batman!

I will be so sad when he grows out of this mask! I love it!

Happy Birthday, Cade!!

We have had a fun day with Cade. We took him to "the Star Wars Store" (AKA Toys R Us) and let him pick out some Star Wars guys and Star Wars books for his birthday. Most people would get a gift and wrap it for their kid- but the whole Toys R Us experience is such a joy for Cade- I thought he'd have more fun picking something out himself. Five years old! He's growing up so fast!!

Daddy took the big kids fishing while the baby had nap.
And there is still more fun to come. We're headed over to our friends' house for dinner. Cade can't wait!

Friday night fun

Cade has been loving the new Star Wars the Clone Wars animated series on Cartoon Network on Friday nights. We've turned it into a family event. He counts down all week- it's so cute!
