Can't wait to see #2

We rented this movie a couple years ago when it came out on DVD. The kids seemed slightly amused, but not that into it. This week I DVR'd it for them to watch again. A completely different reaction this time. We watched it tonight and Cade was as equally enthralled with it as he is with Star Wars and Scooby Doo- which is saying a LOT! He was laughing so hard at the end when they were chasing down the villain- I was having more fun watching Cade than the movie. I can't wait to take them to see #2. We'll have to hit the movie theaters once we're done with this hand, foot and mouth stuff.

Jake and the Hannah Montana Pen

While I was posting today, Jake was getting fussy at my feet. I started looking around the computer desk for something new and interesting for him to play with while I finished up. I saw this Hannah Montana singing pen and was pleasantly surprised at the amount of joy he got out of it.

Thought we were in the clear- not so much.

We've had friends with Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease this week. We thought maybe we had cleared it (since we have such amazing immune systems- okay I know you are all getting a hearty laugh right now). Unfortunately, we are back to our normal -being sick again. Luke started up with it today just before church. Luckily, we noticed it before we all went and infected yet more poor unfortunate souls. This stuff spreads like wildfire. Hopefully the big kids won't have to miss their last week of school. Poor Luke! I think we could start a medical journal just from the infections we've come down with in the last 6 months.

Piano Recital for Cassidy and Cade

This was Cade's first piano recital. He did a great job. We are really proud of him and his enthusiasm for practicing everyday.
Cassidy did a great job and is becoming quite the pro at performing.

Cassidy takes lessons from my good friend. I in turn, teach her little boy. It's been working out well. Cassidy's teacher held a recital for her students, and was sweet to let Cade crash the recital even though I've been teaching him.
For some reason, Cassidy thought she was Cade's piano teacher and kept going up to the piano to sit with him during Cade's performance. You can't even see Cade when she's up there. While he was playing he was trying to swat her away so he could do it himself. It was pretty funny. We had to have a little chat afterwards with Cass about letting Cade do it himself. She is such a good helper. She even steps in without being asked. :)

Mini Mock Recitals

Our audience. Such a great clapper now! :)

Yesterday was filled with mini mock recitals to prepare for their recital in the evening. I had the kids walk up to the piano, take a bow an play their songs- probably 15x each. Cassidy was able to memorize her songs just in time.

Recital Desserts

We were in charge of making the desserts for our piano recital. The kids were so excited to "help" out. They were much obliged to lick the beaters, spoons, bowls from the andes mint cookies, peanut butter bars and oatmeal fudgies. Look at these chocolate faces!

AH, HA!

Someone must have left their Cheerios out from breakfast. I walked into the room and this is what I found. Jake was sure excited!

Mother's day- again!

Warren sent me some beautiful tulips for Mother's day. Unfortunately they molded out 3 days after I got them. Warren sent a complaint to the flower company, so they sent another bouquet free of charge. This time I got some little lilies. I feel so spoiled. I love having flowers! Thank you, Warren!

Memorial Day Barbeque

Don't you love Luke's golf swing?!

We had such a fun day eating and playing with our friends. Tasty food, Bocce ball and good company- it doesn't get much better than that!

Atypical Night Terrors?

That is Luke's latest diagnosis. Though, the docs really don't know what is going on with him. He's been having screaming/crying fits in his sleep for a year now. We thought at first it was due to the move, the new baby and all the sickness we had this winter. But now that he is healthy it is still continuing. I finally took him into the doc about it today. She was stumped. She's calling it Atypical Night Terrors right now- but is going to confer with the other pediatricians in the office and see if we need to do a sleep study with him. Crazy. Any advice?

A couple last minute friends

Yoda watched us like a hawk anytime anyone left camp- even to go to the car. He wouldn't rest until everyone was accounted for. I think he slept the whole car ride home.

Drying off the rained on tent. I am so glad we decided to come home to observe the Sabbath. The area we were at the night we came home received 3 inches of rain- not fun for clean up! Glad we missed that. I feel sorry for the boy scouts who arrived just before we left.
Loading up always takes longer than unloading it seems.

The morning we left, Cade and Luke found some more new friends. Another June bug and a stink bug. Thankfully this kept them busy for awhile while Warren and I cleaned up camp.

My favorite part- S'MORES!!

Cade looks a little like me when eating s'mores. All over the face! My sisters always said before I married, my future husband had to see me eat a s'more first and observe the chocolate smeared all over the place. If he could make it through that, I'd be good to go. Thank goodness Warren stuck it out!
Yoda looking longingly at Cassidy

A couple other fun meals/snacks were the jiffy pop popcorn over the campfire (thanks for the idea Jeannine!) and of course our tin foil dinners. We had planned on roasting hot dogs over the fire our last day, but after a nasty episode I had with some food poisoning, I requested we cut our trip a little short. The kids were happy with microwaved dogs when we returned home.

Our hero

Yoda was in his element on the camping trip. He LOVED being the watch dog. There was a raccoon in our camp the first night. Warren and I saw him on the trash can and then again climbing up a tree near our tent and picnic table. Luke even caught a peek when he got up for a potty break. Yoda watched him all night long, growling and yipping. Making sure this animal didn't get near us in the tent. All the noise was a little annoying, but comforting to know if there was anything more savage like wild boars or coyotes- which are also found in the area- Yoda would warn us first. He was so exhausted from swimming in the lake and being up all night, he just knocked out around camp during the day. What a good boy.

Cade's new friend, "Radio"

Cade found a new friend, Radio. I'm not sure where that name came from. We kept referring to him as a frog- though he was really a toad of some type. The next day we saw a dead frog in the road which was devastating to Cade. "Radio's dead! Radio's DEAD!" he cried. We tried to comfort him by suggesting it was just one of Radio's relatives. He took to that pretty well. This was one of the highlights of Cade's trip.

Luke's June Bug (or "May Bug" since it's not quite June- as Warren will tell you)

Warren and Luke found this huge bug. At first Luke was terrified of it. Warren then showed him the bug was nice and proceeded to "pet" the bug. This led to a long and fruitful relationship between Luke and the May/June Bug. This poor bug endured HOURS of attention from both of the boys. I love Cade's facial expressions as he explores the movements of his new friend.
