The Farmstead Fun Continued...

This was my favorite part (and Jake's, too). We got baby bottles filled with goat's milk and the kids got to feed the baby goats. I got some great video footage. Hopefully I can figure out how to get my new video camera to upload here. Jake was having the time of his life surrounded by a pack of baby goats, feeding each one for a matter of seconds before plopping the bottle into the mouth of another. Luke was really overwhelmed and nervous when we first went in and the goats bombarded him with attention. Luckily, Alan was there to rescue him and helped soothe him into the experience. Cass and Cade were pros at feeding them as well.
It was pretty warm, so the kids were excited to get some popsicles and ice cream sandwiches at the end of our visit. After the farmstead we went over to get some more tasty eats at Chick-Fil-A. What a great day!

Farmstead in Overland Park, Kansas

This place was so cute! It was like a Little House on the Prairie paradise! Animals, tractors to play on, this really neat one room school house. They even got to practice using an old fashioned slate and took turns with the dunce cap. Cade was way too happy with that thing on! :)
We got to watch the little calves transferred from their outside pen to the inside barn- that was really exciting for Jake. When Cade saw the mother milk cow- he looks at her udder and says, "Whoa. She must have a lot of babies!"
We had fun playing in this dugout house as well as a teepee. There was a HUGE HUGE HUGE spider- we're talking almost tarantula size in the teepee. Warren yelled and told Shelley (tricked her) that there was another one right next to her and got a great scare. It was definitely the highlight of his trip.

Fun in Kansas City!!

We had the chance to sneak away for the long weekend and spend it with Warren's sister Shelley and her husband, Alan, up in Kansas City, Missouri. We had such a fun time! They were the perfect hosts with delicious meals (I especially loved the ribs!), and plenty of fun things to do, including giving us time to take some much needed naps on their sofa.

End of Season Soccer Party

Cade had a blast with his soccer friends this season. I was so happy our friend, Sheree, was the coach. She did such a great job, and is fabulous with the boys. Cade thought his team got trophies because they were the best in the league- and I didn't try to persuade him otherwise. He is so proud of his trophy. :)

10 cents per extermination

Warren has a new deal with the kids. Everytime they kill a nasty bug that is pestering our garden, they get 10 cents. We may have to add that rule to everytime they keep Jake away from the garden as well- since he is wreaking as much havoc as the bugs. He loves to harvest!

Relay for Life- Team Sole Sisters from the 4th Ward RS

Most of team "Sole Sisters" we had a couple others manning our fundrasing areas and then another walking the relay.

A new hair cut for Shannon, she donated 10 inches to Locks of Love
Jacque, Sonja and Me. Sonja and I walked for about 3 hours together on the track. We also ran for a half hour or more on top of that. I didn't stay all night like most of our team. At midnight I was turning into a pumpkin.
My luminary bag for my grandpa who died from bladder cancer.
Our fundraising tent. Baked goods, chocolate dipped fruit, carmel apples, homemade bottle cap necklaces and cute hair things, etc.
mother and daughter of our team donating their hair

Shannon before the hair donation
After

Luminary bags. You can make a donation for each bag, then decorate them for the luminary lap. The turn out the lights and the bags glow with the names on them. Then they read them over the podium during the silent lap. My first bag is for my grandpa- Jack Peters- who died from bladder cancer a few years ago. My second bag is for my friend, Briana, who has been fighting cancer for the last couple years. My third bag is for my father in law- who is currently cancer free. A couple years ago he was fighting hard. We're so grateful he came out on top.

Becca- our hairstylist who cut hair at the event for those donating to Locks of Love.

Part of our team.

Our team has raised $3,000 so far. We are currently in 4th place. Altogether our local relay has earned $52,000!! Amazing. Click the button on the right if you would still like to donate. I'm so excited I was able to be a part of this cause fighting cancer.

Newspaper day

Cassidy's class had newspaper day. She wanted to dress the part (I love the ruby slippers addition- as every journalist needs a pair of those!), she even used Warren's old laptop bag instead of a back pack. Lois Lane?

some motivation

We have had some laundry episodes with Cassidy of late. Which is very unlike her. So it was time for some incentive. I went out and bought her some summer outfits. She wasn't allowed to have them until the following were put into practice: 1. All dirty clothes must go into the hamper, not hiding somewhere under the bed, in the closet, in with your clean ones, etc. 2. Her clothes were to be sorted with all of the clothes that are too small rotated out. 3. Clothes boxes to be vacuumed out, remaining old clothes folded nicely and orderly back in boxes. 4. Keep up the good work. She spent hours doing the project, but worked hard to get her prize. She gets to keep the clothes as long as she keeps up the good work. Look at that smile. Clothes are already a motivator for this girl!

Mother Daughter Dinner

I'm Cassidy's activity day leader and we had a mother-daughter manners dinner last week. SO much fun!! We had a footstep theme, so all the center pieces were shoes. Can you tell this is the table I was in charge of?

another tooth extraction

Cass showed me a bulging infection on her gum. I knew right away it was an infected filling. She's had 3 now. Her last one was so bad they had to extract the tooth. Same drill this time around. Though, it was a lot more painful and there was lots of screaming coming from the back of the office. It was awful! I guess the infection counter acted the numbing meds. Yuck. She made it out and after one night of the tooth fairy forgetting she got a great compensation the next.

Ah, lunch.

Jake was pretty excited to find Luke's lunch box unattended. I think he thought he was in for all kinds of tasty snacks. Sticking his hand in, he pulls out...a stormtrooper?! The lunch had been emptied of food and filled up with Star Wars guys. A little disappointed, he wandered over to where Cade and Luke were just getting all set up.

A walk in the "forest"

Three year olds are so fun. They love make believe. We went for our walk in this beautiful green area near our home. Luke calls it "the forest." The forest seems to be a magical place where we stroll over bridges and spot rabbits. How nice he and Jake are so easily entertained while I get my workout!

P is for Pirate!!

We had a fun time at preschool last week. We started out with a puzzle pieced treasure map the kids had to fit together. We then followed the map to the buried treasure. Along the way they had to make the letter "P" with their gold, make paper boats, color pirate swords, aquire some treasure (prince and princess crowns), eat pineapple (we tried to fit in as much letter "P" as possible), and do the crab dance. Finally they arrived at the treasure- pipe cleaners and beads to make necklaces. It was a hit!! It was my last day of hosting for the school year. It has been a lot of fun.
