I moved into a new place. I love it. It is a nice quiet neighborhood in Sandy with everything so close. It is closer to work, closer to the girl's school, it is only a year old and has cool ammenities for all of us. We are finally getting settled. There is something to be said about having a new space. I have made creme brulee and am anxiously awaiting my triple decker steamer. Understand that successfully making creme brulee is nothing short of a miracle for me. I know I am a tard, but it is the little things that can get me so excited and happy. Using the torch was hillarious.
New Adventures with the Girls:
The girls and I went to the Draper City Temple open house. We went early in the afternoon and so it wasn't very busy. For lots of reasons, this was such a special event for all of us. Sophie had lots of questions and really enjoyed the event. She went again with her dad and her cousins later on in the month. Both my girls are such great kids. They choose to sing primary songs and pray individually for things. I like that and am so grateful I am their mom.
The girls and I went to Princess and the Pea last night to see my friend Kristina perform in the children's theatre play. It was really fun and Kristina was a hoot.
The girls and I went to a really cool fundraising event the previous week called the Queen Bee Tea. We all dressed up. The girls were in their princess attire (of course Emma was in an arial costume) and the girls got up-do's and wore their boas to the tea party at La Caille. The queens from the area: Mrs. Utah, Miss Utah, Miss Sandy, etc. etc. were all there and performed. Radio Disney Dancers performed a few dances and a girl played the harp. There was a silent auction of princess paraphernalia and an auction of princess dresses. It was super fun and the lunch/tea party was a success. My girls loved it and it was really fun for me, too. My cousin Kirsten professionally took pictures for the event. She did a great job and it was so exciting to see her in action.
Sophie still plays futsol, which is new this winter. Both Sophie and Emma will be playing outdoor soccer this spring. They are both in gymnastics and doing great with that. They both excel at school and have a niche with science and math. They both read well and I enjoy reading with them at night before bed. As for me, I will start outdoor soccer again next month.
New Events:
I am training for the Wasatch Back Relay. I am on a team called Girls Run Wild. For those that don't know what this is, it is about a 200 mile relay from Logan to Park City so it covers some of the most beautiful mountain terrain along the Wasatch Front. The team consists of 12 runners, each runner running 3 legs of the race ranging from 3 to 8 miles each leg. My sister Andrea, my cousin Marylynn, and my friend Cindy from bookclub run on the team with me. I am really excited and am working hard so I am a strong runner for the team. I have done some new aerobics classes with friends and running 5 times a week. My mushroom effect over the pants is dwindling. That is good news, right?! :)
Upcoming Trips:
I am heading down to Moab next weekend to run in the Moab 5 miler with some girls from the Wasatch Back team. Should be fun.
The following weekend, I am headed to Miami to visit my brother and to show my friend Jaime around town. That weekend is one of the busiest weekends of the year, so I am sure we will have lots of fun things to do and pictures to take. Jaime and I also have a trip planned for Europe in the fall. I have never been to Europe and it is a trip I have wanted to go on for so, so many years and I look forward to it.
I am also headed with the girls and my family to Lake Powell in August to celebrate my brother's birthday. He is turning 40. I am excited to spend some time with family on the lake and take away some of the winter white translucent shine from my legs for the love of all of those around me.
New Look:
I look different. Anyone close to me knows that I put extensions in my hair for volume. This is because with my thyroid problem, I just don't have much hair to work with. I always make sure my extensions look really natural and most people have no idea. My real hair has been longer than my extensions for about 6 months, so I finally decided to get new extension hair. The length I usually buy was out, so I ended up buying longer hair than normal. My hairdresser put them in , threw in some highlights, and convinced me I had to keep the extensions super long because I probably will never buy long hair again. She is right. I figured, what the heck. I can do this for a month or so. Anyway... I did it. I look like a mermaid/pocahontas. My hair is to my elbows. ha ha ha. I am laughing typing this. Anyway.. I may look somewhat tropic in Miami this trip. I am developing my relationship with my hair. It is so different. Little things like the hair sticking to the back of my arms or swinging when I run take some getting used to. It takes forever to dry and my neck has been sore for a week trying to get used to the weight of it. Nonetheless, it has been a really fun change.
New Friends and Experiences:
The dating scene... it is coming along. I am having a lot of fun and have met some really neat guys and good friends. I have enjoyed being taken out to fun events and getting to know the cool restaurants in Salt Lake City again. I really, really like the indian food and the ambiance at the Bombay House. It is my favorite. Of course, when it comes to dating, there are always funny adventures that go along with it. Recently, I have gone out with a dermatologist. He had me drop by his office to get some prescription lotion for the girls. (My daughter's hands are almost raw during the winter from washing their hands so much. The anti-bacterial soap is so hard on their skin.) Anyway, he had a goodie bag all ready for me with lotion and what-nots. Then he said he had a goodie bag for me with special facial lotions with spf, etc. Anyway.. non-chalantly he says that he also something else for me. He said he has drawn up some botox for me. I was like.. you did WHAT? ha ha.. Then I simply said, "I don't exactly know how to take this. Are you saying in a nice way that I NEED botox or are you trying to be charming? I really like the way I look and I really don't want a drooping eye or anything." ha! He obviously doesn't know much about me... I mean honestly, I don't even wear base or powder. At anyrate, I knew that I would be foolish to pass up free botox, but honestly I have never even considered or looked into it and wasn't about to let anyone poke me without some answers. Soooo, I had him educate me. (Talk about being clueless.) I really had no idea how it worked or the numerous ways people use it (like preventing people from sweating all the time or for migraine headaches.) All I new is that it was a coveted product among celebrities and those that can't seem to get away from the continual search for the fountain of youth. Anyway, I shake my head, I was laughing and screaming from disbelief as I got poked between the eyes. Miraculously, my squint and laugh lines on the forehead and between the eyes disappeared. Between the hair and the botox, I am not exactly sure what in the heck I am doing!! Am I going through mid-life crisis? No.. just having fun.
New Developments with my Career:
Lastly, the most amazing thing has happened with me career-wise. For a long time I have known that I will spend most life doing humanitarian work. Recently I was invited to be on an advisory counsil for the non-profit organization Ascend Alliance. It was such a productive meeting. I was able to network with critical people and have met with the CEO a few times already. I have been asked to develop courses for them to take to the various places they do work throughout the world. I was also involved in finding a person that can help them get the critical improvements to their website right away. It is exciting on so many levels as I can say without hesitation that this was completely guided from a higher power. I won't go into all the details, but just know that I just shake my head in unbelief at the synergy and connections that went on during the past few weeks regarding this project. It feels really good knowing I am where I am supposed to be and doing what I am supposed to be doing.
Also, about 4 years ago, I approached a friend about a business idea. A really cool facility. We did some research and came up with a plan for next steps. Obviously there have been some serious detours in my life between then and now. However, recently she approached me about getting it going again and she has started to take steps with research and education towards accomplishing it. This is really exciting because this past year I have been mulling over ways to improve on the original business idea and met with contacts to further the necessary education I need to move forward. I have also come across new contacts to help with the educational portion of the facility. It will take some time to get things to a place where it can come into fruition, but I am so excited to be moving forward in laying the groundwork for creating this awesome place. :)
It has been an adventurous month and it feels so good to be building myself back up to where I want to be. I feel like I am finally embracing the time of new beginnings. I am anxious for spring. I am terrible at uploading photos, but I'll get them uploaded one day. Hope all of you are well.
