New school year!
I know I'm super behind on my blog and I have so much I want to share, but I'm just so swamped right now that its just going to have to wait.
So far, Guatemala has been great! My new home is a trillion times bigger than all of the apartments I lived in,in Korea - put together!
I have a lot more freedom than I anticipated, although not having a car yet makes things very restrictive.
The school has been supportive, and I couldn't ask for a better team to be on.
While the second grade team is awesome, and I'm truly being supported to the best of everyone's abilities, overwhelmed does not even begin to cover the what I'm feeling right now.
I know everything is going to come together. But. Right now I have a stress level that would rival any air traffic controller!
So, to the three people who actually check this thing~ thank you for taking the time to read my rumblings and please don't stop checking back on here, I'll update properly soon. I promise!

And we're off! Kind of.... Nearly.... Almost
Anne and I have spent the last few days madly packing and repacking our bags. Weighing them, freaking out when they're overweight, redistributing all of the shoes and books and weighing our bags again.
Well, the good news is that weight wasn't a problem. I don't know if its because we're flying first class, but they didn't weigh our bags!
The bad news.... American Airlines have incompetent call centre staff who told us, on TWO separate occasions, that we could take an extra checked bag, we'd just need to pay a fee.... At check-in, however, we were told that we couldn't have an extra bag because of the embargo placed on flights to Central America. No way to override their system. Absolutely nothing we could do.... Except buy an economy ticket.... For $570 USD. Which, of course, we had to do. After all of the packing and repacking, there was no way to know what was in each bag, and we certainly couldn't sacrifice a bag without knowing what was inside.
So..... Looks like we're living off tortillas for the next month or so....
Feel free to donate to the 'Anne and Crystal gots themselves a problem' fund!!!

Let the freaking out begin~
It's officially less than a week until we head to Guatemala!!!! Anne and I have finished our shopping- work clothes, casual clothes, toiletries, makeup and SHOES! Now we just need to pack it all. I'm scared it won't fit (or weigh too much). I hate this part! :(

Austin, Texas
Austin is the capital of Texas and, most importantly, the hub of all things quirky and home to many hippies and hipsters. Austin proudly embraces its weirdness and you can check out some of it at http://www.keepaustinweird.com
Lauren and I only had one night there, so we tried to squeeze in as much as we could.
We started with a visit to the State Capitol Building, where Dick Rick Perry was signing an abortion bill into law that will effectively force many abortion clinics in Texas to close and, consequently, restrict women's access to safe abortions. Booooooooo! Anticipating backlash from the women who attended in protest, they did this. We missed all of the ruckus, but we did get to enjoy the beautiful building and the gorgeous weather!
After the stinky bats were done, Lauren and I headed to sixth street to meet up with Katherine, a girl Lauren went to school with, and whom I met in Korea. We went to a few bars and checked out the Museum of the Weird. Lauren and I had read some good reviews and were really excited about going there.... Unfortunately, it was very underwhelming (a small hall with pictures and skeletons and movie type props), but, luckily for us, we were treated to the most painfully terrible magic show in existence!!! It was just us three in a tiny room with the 'magician' and some wax figures. When the magician performed his tricks, you could see him fumbling with the left over cards, and we could hear the mechanisms he used to make cards 'appear' out of the wax figures' pockets. It was so awkward it sent me into a giggling fit for half the show.
And.... we played 'spot the truck nuts'. (I've since been informed that these exist in Australia too, but I'd never seen or heard of them before!)

(My favourite part of the visit was hitting the gift shop and finding this amazing t-shirt!)

Isn't it awesome?!!!!
After a quick nap at the hotel, we headed out to a great little restaurant for dinner, then went to see the bats come out from their hidey spot under the Congress Avenue bridge.
Turns out, a lot of other people had the same idea!
On the way back to Waxahachie, we stopped in at IKEA to get a throw blanket we'd each been coveting at Amanda's. It's lightweight and stretchy, so you can snuggle and wrap up in it like it's your very own cocoon!! I'm in love with it!! Anyway, while we were at IKEA, this happened...
Who picks up flat pack furniture in a limo?!!!!
We also enjoyed the beautiful skies and weird dome house things.
Check out that sky! Texas is truly beautiful

Serious Pizza, Dallas
We went into Dallas again last night, this time with Amanda's sister and her husband. They took me to a great pizza place called Serious Pizza, nestled in beside a couple of tattoo parlours and bars. This place was awesome! You can order whole pizza or slices, choose from their menu or build your own, and all the pizzas are HUGE!!! The guy working the dough was getting a full body workout! And, to top off the amazing pizza, you can get a draft beer for $1!!! Definitely my kinda place!!

Bastille Day fun^^
After soaking up the French fun, we went to have dinner at a place Amanda likes called Oddfellows. It's a small restaurant with a nice range of food to suit everyone's tastes, all day brekky, good coffee and amazing looking desserts!
