"...I'm an Expert Kind of Kid!"

I know as an aunt I am supposed to be an example to my nieces and nephews, but I find more often than not, they are the example to me! Case in point, my nephew, Kameron. Last night I took Lego Rock Band over to my parent's house to play with everyone. Now, as far as I know, the kids have never played Rock Band and so they were starting out on "Super Easy". Kameron decided very quickly that he wanted to try harder difficulties, including expert. He continued to select "Expert" on all of the different instruments and songs. He would "die" several times a song, but still celebrated his scores at the end and had just as much fun as (if not more than) the rest of us. Even proclaiming "I'm doing expert because I'm an expert kind of kid!" How great would it be to have that much confidence in yourself! To be able to celebrate your "scores" in life, even when they aren't great. To throw the "expectations" out the window and just have fun! To be a kid again!

A Very Crafty Christmas

This post is a little late, but I wanted to show some of the fun crafts that I worked on this Christmas season. Kara had the idea to make homemade gifts and I thought I would join in the fun.

As one of the gifts for Suzanne, Kara and I made her a calendar of her family (huge THANK YOUS to Natalie for helping us get these photos! You are wonderful!). Here's a few of my favorite pages...

As I posted in November, I have recently learned to crochet so I decided to do that with a lot of my presents. I still owe Kara and Suzanne blankets (I have the yarn.. I have started.. just not finished...), but I did finish scarves for Kara's family, a blanket for Ayden, and headbands for myself and my nieces (notice the cute frame I hung them on... that was one of the presents Kara made for me... complete with decoupaged clothes pins! LOVE IT).

And the biggest craft of all is an orange cedar chest that Suzanne and I did for Kara.

Truthfully, I did not do a whole lot to help. It was my idea to do it. Suzanne found the chest at D.I., she sanded it and primed it, we picked out the color (or what turned into colors) and we painted it. Turns out, we ended up picking up the wrong color when we went back and so Suz sanded it down again in places, re primed it, painted it, and did the trim work. We ended up doing the stenciling together. It was a huge hit! I freaking love it and now want to redo my cedar chest!

I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas! I know I did!

Twenty- Nine

As I've said before, Suz, Kara and I have craft nights once a week. A few weeks ago we made these cute canvases. We decoupaged paper to them and then put ribbon around the edges. They were super easy and a great way to spruce up a room!

We decided to do cute Christmas paper, but you can use any paper to cordinate with your desired room!

Twenty- Seven

My nieces and nephews were able to come to Thanksgiving this year because both Allyson and Mark had to work. My mom wanted some recent pictures of them so she had me do a mini photo shoot. Now, they are not great, but with the help of some editing, I can fake it!
